I am looking for a basic app (free if possible) that can help me convert movie files. For example, I took a video with my digital camera and the extension is .avi. I want to put on my iphone, which I believe only handles mp4 or m4v.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am wanting to convert my parent's home videos from the late 80's and 90's to digital files. They are all on 8mm tapes and we still have the working Sony camcorder and AV cords. I would love to easily transfer them to my Macbook Pro where I can then edit the files and put them in chronological order, (some 8mm tapes start out in 1988 then jump to 1997 then back to 1993..).The only thing I have found is the Pinnacle video recorder, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with Macs and it looks like really outdated software.

I have a box full of handwritten notes that I would like to convert to a digital format (jpeg or pdf), but I know nothing about these formats and so don't know the best method to do so: scanning is feasible, but terribly, painfully slow. I would prefer to snap photos of each page and then convert to pdf but I've had previous experiences with large pdfs generated from jpegs that were unbearably slow to open and navigate because of the size of the file.
I'm not looking for OCR or to buy a new scanner / camera, I was just hoping someone could point me in the direction of learning more about the formats themselves and perhaps recommend an effective workflow or another community that specializes in this sort of thing (all my searches for analogue to digital conversion lead to dead ends). Most of the material is just reference notes that I would like to have, so the quality just needs to be readable. It is written in pencil or pen, some of it is printed.

I'm an illustrator, and I have enough need for photos of myself and various objects that I have a Nikon digital camera permanently mounted on a tripod in my studio. Is it possible to use Photo Booth as a viewfinder, so that I can see the camera's-eye-view of whatever I'm shooting? I know that literally, it can be done, because I currently use Photo Booth to shoot micro photos from a Celestron USB digital microscope. So why not input from a Nikon? Can it be done? If so, how?

I'm running a top spec iMac with AVID and FCP. I need to export the audio to my amp as a digital signal. How can I do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo my late 2009 iMac doesn't like headphones. When I have no headphones plugged in, I get the sound fine, and the output shows as internal speakers. But when I plug in headphones, the output shows as Digital Output. ***!!? The red light used to be there but only when the problem started, now it's gone. I've tried toothpick, Q Tip, everything. I think it's a hardware issue cause it does it on Snow Leopard, Mavericks, and even Yosemite. Since it's an '09 model my warranty is gone.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Panasonic Viera (2006) digital TV. It has every possible port on the back (and even ports on one side.)The TV is connected to a digital TV tuner/hard disk recorder unit. The tuner also has a ton of ports. What do I need to do in order to send video from the TV to the Mac and record it on the Mac?(Either live TV or video playback from the hard disk recorder.)With my old analog TV, I used the Interview XLR8 USB video capture device with the Interview application or BTV application. (I think even Quicktime could record from the XLR too.)Seems digital TV doesn't work with the XLR8. Is that right? I tried the XLR8 with various combinations of inputs/outputs but can't seem to get any video to appear on the Mac.
I see that HDMI is one way out from Mac out and view on the TV.I also have a VCR and DVD player connected to the TV via a switcher box. With the variety of digital and analog outputs from these devices, seems I should be able to get video from the TV into the Mac.

Finding an effective way to transfer old VHS videos to my Mac with Yosemite so that I can burn them to DVDs. These are so important to me as they include videos of my three children from birth until the age of DVDs. There is NOTHING out there that I can find that will work. The "Debut" program available online for free does not clarify whether it will work with a Mac or with Yosemite.
