Apr 21, 2009I have an old PowerMac G5, that I would like to convert to the Intel chipset. Does anyone know what exactly I'll need? Is it a simple motherboard/cpu swap or will I have gut the whole thing out?

Sep 30, 2010It doesn't have to be exactly to MP4 I am just trying to convert my MKV files that I created when I placed my DVD's on my macbook. I didn't realize they would make the movies 11gb's when I can convert to mp4 or m4v or avi at like 2-4gb. I normally use Handbrake, RipIt or DVDRemaster but none are having any success converting the MKV file.

How do i control the size of the conversion ? Limit data rate to x Kbs - if so how do i work it out if the movie is 1hr.40mins? Does Streamclip convert a second for a second. if so i could calculate the size? Ok i now understand that i need to limit date rate and this calculates the end size..

Sep 6, 2010So I wanted to convert my macbook into a desktop. I dont mean taht I want to run in a clamshell mode but literally remove it from its casing and make it run. SO my first step was to remove the lcd from it. Which I did. Now I hooked it up to a TV that I have with a component cable but the picture on the tv is VERY bad. I dont know if its the cable or its just the computer itself. Is s-video better? The display properties only give me a choice to go upto 1024x768.

Oct 20, 2010After converting my mod file to mp4 then uploading it to final cut pro the quality is really bad and jumpy.
I used MPEG streamclip... The quality is good after the mod - mp4 conversion it's only after i import it to final cut pro that the quality becomes really bad.
I don't have this problem when i am importing other files just the mod-mp4 converted ones.

Feb 8, 2007I've done a lot of research on the best method to convert old 8 MM tapes to DVD. I don't have a working 8 MM camcorder anymore, but have lots of old tapes with family footage. Apparantly some Digital8 Camcorders can play back old 8 MM tapes, and then can be transferred digitally to my computer via firewire cable to iMovie or Final Cut Pro. This is what I would prefer to do. However, has anyone done this with a specific camera? I've read that not all Digital8 Cameras play back old 8 MM tapes. Some people say you can't even do it this way. I would like to do this myself so that I can edit my video.

I do a lot of media conversion from various formats using QT, VLC Player, Video Converter for Mac, Cleaner, Mpeg Streamclip, Sorenson Squeeze, Visual Hub, etc
Quite often i still run into (PC created) .avi clips that simply WILL NOT export/convert with SOUND, they will only PLAY with sound on the VLC Player but cannot seem to be converted into any kind of format WITH sound. I'm assuming this is some kind of codec issue but since i only know the clip as an .avi (and some AVI's convert fine including Divx and Xvid, others don't) and have no known way of analyzing the clip i don't know how to convert it.

I have been thinking of investing in another mac to do this. I figure if i ever need a copy iso would provide me the quick way to make it. I cant find any straight software that rips to iso. Im preferably looking for free software but I wouldn't mind investing 30 bucks or so in a decent app. I also assume if its an iso I should be able to just burn it to a new dvd with Disk Utility. Full story: A good friend of mine, who unfortunately is not very computer-savvy, has asked me to print a poster at a printing shop near my workplace. Jan 6, 2010I'm running office 2004 on my MBP. Normally I would just hit file, print, print to adobe PDF to convert to a PDF and everything worked fine. Now i'm getting an error message when I try to do this...anyone ever had this happen to them?
