MacBook Pro :: Converting 8mm To Digital

Dec 3, 2014

I am wanting to convert my parent's home videos from the late 80's and 90's to digital files. They are all on 8mm tapes and we still have the working Sony camcorder and AV cords. I would love to easily transfer them to my Macbook Pro where I can then edit the files and put them in chronological order, (some 8mm tapes start out in 1988 then jump to 1997 then back to 1993..).The only thing I have found is the Pinnacle video recorder, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with Macs and it looks like really outdated software.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Converting Handwritten Notes: Analogue To Digital Conversion?

May 23, 2012

I have a box full of handwritten notes that I would like to convert to a digital format (jpeg or pdf), but I know nothing about these formats and so don't know the best method to do so: scanning is feasible, but terribly, painfully slow. I would prefer to snap photos of each page and then convert to pdf but I've had previous experiences with large pdfs generated from jpegs that were unbearably slow to open and navigate because of the size of the file.

I'm not looking for OCR or to buy a new scanner / camera, I was just hoping someone could point me in the direction of learning more about the formats themselves and perhaps recommend an effective workflow or another community that specializes in this sort of thing (all my searches for analogue to digital conversion lead to dead ends). Most of the material is just reference notes that I would like to have, so the quality just needs to be readable. It is written in pencil or pen, some of it is printed.

MacBook :: Converting A MB Into A Desktop?

Sep 6, 2010

So I wanted to convert my macbook into a desktop. I dont mean taht I want to run in a clamshell mode but literally remove it from its casing and make it run. SO my first step was to remove the lcd from it. Which I did. Now I hooked it up to a TV that I have with a component cable but the picture on the tv is VERY bad. I dont know if its the cable or its just the computer itself. Is s-video better? The display properties only give me a choice to go upto 1024x768.

MacBook Pro :: Using The Digital Audio Out?

Oct 7, 2009

Basically im turning my room into more of a home cinema, and was looking to use my laptop to play movies into a TV, and sound through a surround sound. I was simply going to use a mini toslink to optical adapter which would plug into an av reciever. I was just wondering who else does this, and what is it like? Is the audio quality okay? Can it sustain high volumes? had any troubles? what does it use, DTS or something?

MacBook Pro :: Lose Audio After Converting Avi To Dvd?

Jan 1, 2011

After converting avi files to dvd I lose audio on more than half the files. The audio works fine on the avi file. However once its converted the movie plays with no sound.

I'm currently using a free trial version of divX convertor. Then I use iDVD to burn the movie. However the problem isn't with iDVD because when I just try to play the converted movie through the divX player or quicktime there is no sound. Obviously the same holds true when I send the converted file to iDVD.

1. What is the reason for this happening?

2. Do I need to use a different convertor? Or do I need to install additional programs?

3. I'm not the most computer savvy person so please try to give a simple explanation and instruction.

They take about 30 minutes each to complete and my cpu is currently at 84C. It fluctuates anywhere from 80C to 87C. Im just wondering if I should maybe give the cpu a break or if I can just do them all in one sitting?

MacBook Pro :: Converting AVI Files To DVD - No Playback

Jan 11, 2010

I have a 2 1/2 year old MBP running SL. I recently have been having issues with the dvd drive. I have been trying to convert avi files to dvd. I have tried two different avi files and two different applications (idvd and burn). They do the conversion of the file, but when the disc is completed there seems to be files on the dvd but it cannot play. Sounds like the drive starts up, spins the disk, stops and repeats this till I eject. I get a beachball on the screen as well. Now I have tried known good DVDs and they play with no issues and games like the Sims 3 seem not to have an issue with playing in the drive. I was just trying to figure out if this is hardware related or software (apps or the files I am trying to convert) before my Applecare runs out.

MacBook Pro :: How To Turn Off Digital Output

Apr 11, 2012

So I've posted this question before a few months a go. None of the answers I got helped. This is kind of my last effort before I have to send my baby to Apple and pay God knows how much. I hear this is pretty common, but my audio jack is stuck on digital output. I've got the whole red LED light shining through it deal. I was told it was a swtich in the jack that had been triggered and all I had to do was a) stick a toothpick in it and wiggle it around till it trips the switch. b) spray some compressed air in there. Well I 've tried the first a hundred times a hundred different ways and I just spent 10 bucks on can of air, and that didn't work either.

MacBook Pro :: It Cannot Connect To Digital Display

May 13, 2012

Today when i plugged in my Macbook Pro 13" (early 2011) there was no output. The monitor was in power save, and my compute did not detect the monitor (note i have been using this setup for months without problem). Every time i plug in the dvi cable ( to my mini display port adapter i get the ususal blue flash but then nothing else happens.

I've tried a new dvi cable, tried a different monitor on my mac.then i tried both monitors on a windows computer, and they both work, then i tried using VGA out  on the macbook (using another adapter) and that surprisingly worked. Only thing left either the computer (hardware or configuration?) , or the DVI - mini DP adapter. They cost $30 and  I really don't want to spend that kind of money on it unless i know that is th cause. is it possible for my mac to have VGA out but DVI/HDMI are broken. or is it just my adapter?

Mac :: Converting A Macbook Pro Into A Desktop And Laptop Recommendations?

I currently have a 2006 Macbook Pro 2.0 ghz core duo, 80 GB HD, 2GB Ram running leopard (not snow leopard), and a wireless card which I think has reached the end of it's life line (the signal range of the wireless card has diminished dramatically), and a battery which last 45min on a charge and a fussy dvd drive that fails at times. Which this being said, I wanted an opinion on a couple things if it wasn't to much trouble.A. I wanted to know what could I do to "Max out" my laptop.1a. When I do "max out" my laptop would I be able to convert my Macbook Pro and use it as a desktop (just buy an external screen, keyboard, and mouse) edit: Also What could I do to prevent heating (since it would now be used as a desktop)
