What's the best way to connect my iMac (2011) to my TV? My TV has HDMI inputs and my iMac has Thunderbolt ports, so I know I can connect them with a cable, but they are about 20 feet apart and I think that's too long for a cable run.

I am having difficulties connecting from iMac to Windows Home Server 2011 shares. First of all it takes so long time to discover the share in iMac, which it's called "mediaserver". After finding it I cannot connect and gives "Connection Failed: message. If I choose "Connect As.." option I wait some time and then pops out with an error:
"There was a problem connecting to the server "mediaserver". The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
If I try from Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server ... write in Server Address : smb://mediaserver it fails. But if I write the IP address, like: smb://192.168.1.42 it works after couple of tries. If I try now to Make an Alias for the share I get "The operation can't be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -8060)." I have updated to Mac OS X version 10.7.3.

Can I connect my iMac 27" late 2009 to a 20" ADC cinema display? Here's a diagram of the back of my model, fyi. The folks at my local Apple Store say it's possible, but will cost $100 to get the necessary peripherals. On top of that, the technology is so different, connecting ADC to DVI to Mini Display Port, and I'd be better off getting a 3rd party monitor. I am using a rocketfish thunderbolt to HDMI dongle, HDMI cable to the TV. The TV seems to recognize that something is connected, but the message on the screen still says no signal. I've tried the various HDMI inputs as well as the HDMI/DVI input. I use the same HDMI cable to connect to the iPad to the tv without problems.Â

I connect to a Windows network. We recently upgraded to a Windows Small Business Server 2011 server from a Windows SBS 2003. Previously I had been able to connect and view all files. I am no longer able to. I can see the server, but whenever I try to log in, it says that I have the wrong name or password. As far as I'm aware the hardware is not an issue it's the firware lacking the drivers to be able to install Snow Leopard. I've tried 10.6, 10.6.3 & 10.6.7 to no avail.Â
I've also tried formatting the drive and booting the dmg's like that also to no avail, now backing up to lion via time machine.Â
Years of using windows being easily configurable and moving to mac 4 months ago finding that it quite restrictive but probably why its safer as an OS is frustrating.Â

I have a mid 2011 27inch i5 desktop and the fan noise is so bad.. I've had 5 macs and they have all been pretty quite..This thing is unbelievable. Had to have the HD replaced because it was making a grinding noise, fixed now but the fan drives me mad.. took it to apple and they say this is normal. $1800.00 for state of the art technology... having had a few imacs i would expect the same as what i got last time, thats why i bought another one.. I haven't installed any new software in the last 3 months. About 2 weeks ago the iMac shut down on me out of nowhere. I put my hand on the top-rear and it was really really hot. I left it for an hour and tried to start it up again. A progress bar showed underneith the apple logo at boot up. When it got to about 15% it shut the computer off again. It did this over and over. I restored from a Time Machine back-up and it worked. I started monitoring the temperatures inside and it seems my graphics card (the AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB) runs constantly around 80 degrees C. That's hot. I'm not doing anything besides browsing and listening to iTunes so I don't know what could be stressing the GC. Nothing is out of the ordinary in the Activity Monitor.Â

A few weeks ago I had problems with my iMac freezing and also had a few Kernal panics. I ended up doing a disk utility with the actual startup disk and since then it worked for about 10 days but just recently froze again (while in Firefox) and started making a continuous loud beeping from the speakers and kind of a staticy sound...so I turned it off but now it won't stay started. I hear the "bong" noise and then see the apple logo and the bar under apple logo starts to come on but disappears And then it powers down to black screen and off. I have tried putting disk in but it spits it out at startup I have also tried Resetting pram and smc...I hope I did that correctly I believe I did? What other steps can I take?

My mac is 2.7ghz i5 with a 1TB HD. It has crashed about five times this week. Two kernel panics, two freezes where I can't move anything, and once it just plain shut off. I've heard that it could be the network card causing the kernel panics. I do know that the airport card has been performing very poorly but I assumed it was just because there are about three walls between my computer and the router.

I need to purchase a replacement LCD for my iMac 21.5" I have found cheaper LCDs for the the 2009 and 2010 iMacs. I was wondering if they will work on my 2011 model.
