Intel Mac :: Installing 10.6 On Preinstalled 10.7 Mid 2011?
Apr 5, 2012
As far as I'm aware the hardware is not an issue it's the firware lacking the drivers to be able to install Snow Leopard. I've tried 10.6, 10.6.3 & 10.6.7 to no avail.Â
I've also tried formatting the drive and booting the dmg's like that also to no avail, now backing up to lion via time machine.Â
Years of using windows being easily configurable and moving to mac 4 months ago finding that it quite restrictive but probably why its safer as an OS is frustrating.Â
I am upgrading to Lion and Microsoft Excel and Office will not run under Lion.I am upgrading to office 2011.Do I need to uninstall office 2004 prior to installing 2011.If so how do I uninstall 2044.Â
After installing 2 Corsair 4GB memory sticks (for a total of 12GB) my less than a year old IMac (mid-2011) started crashing like crazy. Everything indicated that they were installed properly, ie, About this Mac, Activity Monitor, etc...
As soon as I opened up any application or even a single browser window--CRASH.
I have a 500 GB Hard drive in my early 2011 MacBook Pro and will be adding a a second SSD Drive in the former location of my optical drive. I purchased a 64GB SSD and only want to transfer the operating sytem and apps. How can I do this? I am familiar with super duper but think that only exact copies can be made. Is there any other way that I can transfer just Mac OSX Lion and my Apps to my new hard drive?Â

I have accidentally wiped the hard drive of a mid 2011 imac 27" there was no install DVD provided for this machine and a retail Snow Leopard disk will not boot, apparently I need 10.6.8 and the retail disk is only 10.6.3 is there any solution to this dilemma?
I recently installed the 2011 version. So now I have 2008 and 2011 on my Mac... Is it ok for me to uninstall the 2008 version or will that get rid of all my docs, spreadsheets, presentations?
So I got the SSD and transferred with SuperDuper from my HDD to the SSD through a SATA cable. I verified that the SSD was ok before ejecting. Now, I tried putting the SSD in and at first it booted to "No bootable device." Then I did the Command+ option+ p+r and it chimed the second time, got to the apple logo and then sat at a white screen. I also tried command alone, option alone, and command + r. What can I do? It's a Samsung 840 EVO 250 gb.
i m not sure if it has something to do with office 2011. coz i did not change any system configurations, only installed office for mac today.
airport also seems broken. can not sharing my internet for iphone.
internet sharing is on, firewall is off. iphone can connect to the wireless, but wont DHCP the right ip address. before it was something like 10.0.0.x when its working. now the ip adress i got on the iphone its 169.254.xxx.xxx
Prior to upgrading to Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac from Office 2008, one of my widgets (url...) displayed a double-arrow character (⟷) in the text. Since installing Office it has been replaced by a question mark in a box. I haven't encountered this problem elsewhere yet.Could installing Office have altered other files or fonts to cause problems?

Is it possible to delete apps that were preinstalled in my Macbook Pro 13"? I would like to free up the space that the apps take up. Some I will never use plus "Safari" doesn't work at all, I have to use "Google Chrome" for the Internet.
I am thinking of making the switch to a Mac, primarily because I am sick of Windows and PC's and all their shortcomings. I really cannot afford a brand new Mac, so I am thinking of ebaying it and going for a 2.4ghz early 2008 macbook. However, there are a couple of things I need to know:If the ebay product ships with software pre-installed on the machine, how do I save it in another location while I do a format and fresh install of Snow Leopard, and then load it back on without discs? I have heard that Time Machine backs up apps, but will it restore them to working order on the new install? (I'm thinking of software such as iLife and Office here) Secondly, are the old style polycarbonate macbooks rugged in their design? I am careful with any laptop I handle, but I do travel with them a lot. I have had 2 dell laptops in my life, and on both of them the hinges and screen border have split right open after barely a year of use, as well as other issues such as audio failure, batterys, chargers and wifi not working right.
What's the best way to connect my iMac (2011) to my TV? My TV has HDMI inputs and my iMac has Thunderbolt ports, so I know I can connect them with a cable, but they are about 20 feet apart and I think that's too long for a cable run.
I have a mid 2011 27inch i5 desktop and the fan noise is so bad.. I've had 5 macs and they have all been pretty quite..This thing is unbelievable. Had to have the HD replaced because it was making a grinding noise, fixed now but the fan drives me mad.. took it to apple and they say this is normal. $1800.00 for state of the art technology... having had a few imacs i would expect the same as what i got last time, thats why i bought another one.. But this is definitely not what i got last time !I sit at this thing 10 hrs a day sometimes... i can't believe i piad 1800 bucks for something that makes more noise than my air con in silent mode... Â
How do i connect my Xbox 360 to my IMAC 21.5 (mid 2011)? my imac does have the thunderbolt port. I was wondering if it works when i use the hdmi cable to connect the xbox to (hdmi to thunderbolt) adapter then to my IMAC. based on what i have read, this version of imac supports target display mode.
Off-late almost everytime I am getting kernal panics when I shut down my iMac 21 2011 model. After booting back here is the problem report that comes up. I could'nt make head or tail of it, could anybody help me out here. Â

I haven't installed any new software in the last 3 months. About 2 weeks ago the iMac shut down on me out of nowhere. I put my hand on the top-rear and it was really really hot. I left it for an hour and tried to start it up again. A progress bar showed underneith the apple logo at boot up. When it got to about 15% it shut the computer off again. It did this over and over. I restored from a Time Machine back-up and it worked. I started monitoring the temperatures inside and it seems my graphics card (the AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB) runs constantly around 80 degrees C. That's hot. I'm not doing anything besides browsing and listening to iTunes so I don't know what could be stressing the GC. Nothing is out of the ordinary in the Activity Monitor.Â

I am trying to install Microsoft's latest update for Office 11 and I can't close Microsoft database daemon or Sync-services app to install MS Office 2011 14.2.1 update. No idea how to close it. I read that in some cases an older version of Entourage caused some problems so I deleted Entourage - can't use it anyway - but that didn't work. Have rebooted several times over several days and same problem remains.Â
Is it a good idea to set Firmware password for more security for iMac Mid 2011? What's the benefits and disadvantages? Can i reset or remove The password if i want?
This is my 2nd iMac and it seems like they run so fast out of the box and overtime they slow down dramatically. Is it because the more programs that I install the slower it runs? What can I do to get it back to it's former glory?
