I have a new imac but for some reason the ical feature won't turn on because it says "a secure connection could not be established". Yet the mail/notes and chat functions both work. ical works between my iphone and ipad, just not the mac.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been having this problem for a while. It happens every now and then, sometimes more often too. Sometimes at random times, when I try to access https websites in Safari such as Internet banking, signing in into eBay etc, it has an error.
It says "Safari can't open the page because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server signin.ebay.com.au". To resolve this problem I always have to turn off my Airport and then turn it back on. See screenshot - [URL]
I've also tried opening it in Firefox and it also doesn't work. In Firefox, the error is "Data Transfer Interrupted: The connection to signin.ebay.com.au has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred." See screenshot - [URL]
So explain to me as you would to a complete moron how to create a wireless network with WEP encryption. I have an iMac running Leopard and my router is a D-Link DI-524.

After a bit of research I opted for WPA2-PSK (WiFi Protected Access 2 with Pre-Shared Key). Is this the best thing to go for out of the below options:

I've got myself a random password (thanks to a generator website) and I'm not allowing the broadcast of the name (SSID).
Every time I try to click on something to buy in the iTunes store or even to authorize my computer or even to view my Account details, I get the error:
"We could not complete your iTunes store request. A secure network connection could not be established. Check that your computer's date and time are correct and try again."
I made sure my time and date are correct and such. I even did it on my iPhone and it gives me the same error. Anyone have a previous solution to this?
I've heard of apps that let you connect to any wireless network wep/wpa whatever, without knowing the password, just lets you connect. I can't seem to find one though. Does anyone here know of such an app?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using a Ibook G4 with Mac OS 10.4.3 Tiger with up to date upgrades. I have been facing this problem for a month now and I have tried every possible option. It was working very fine until then for past 5 months. Problem: "There was an error joining the airport network". The problem comes only when I make my network secure. If I make it open, it works fine. I don't want to keep my network open and unsecure, so the problem keeps bothering me.
Things I have tried.
1. I have tried removing all the old passwords in the keychain and deleting all the previous networks it remembered. no difference, same error.
2. I have tried several other things suggested in different forums and articles, nothing really gave any results.
3. I finally got my OS reloaded with erase and Install option.. still the same error message comes. I have my Interferece robustness on and other PC computer connected to the same network works fine. I have even tried changing the router from Netgear to Linksys, nothing really worked.
How do I keep the internet connected to a secure network WPA2 Personal without logging in everytime?

I just purchased an Airport Extreme (802.11n) to replace my old Linksys router (so that I can have wifi). After I have everything installed, I went to Symantec's Security Check page and ShieldsUP! page to make sure my connection is secure.

To my horror, Symantec says that one of my ports is OPEN (ICMP Ping), while all others are CLOSED. In my limited understanding, this is definitely not the most desirable situation--not as good as my old Linksys, whose ports are all reported as STEALTH. ShieldsUP! just said that I failed because of the open ICMP port.
My questions are:
1. Is this the best Airport Extreme can do?
2. Am I safe?
3. Can I change any settings to make my network more secure?
I can't find much info from Apples' documentation and the Support website.
I have been unsuccessful in figuring out how to view iCal between computers at home. Can it be set so that updates on one can be viewed automatically on the other? I am wanting it so that it is running unified and not separately between computers. And/ or so that when DH logs in, he sees updates I've made from when I logged in? I can't get into *certain* secure sites. I first noticed the problem a few weeks ago when I couldn't check out at Amazon, the log-in page would not come up. Neither would any page on Amazon that is secure, i.e., requiring the entry of my password. The problem has grown. Most recently I couldn't get into Bank Of America, now I can't get into gmail. The real kick is I couldn't get in HERE!! (But I *can* get into my bank account, I *can* get into Chase and I *can* get into Citi, no problems.) The problem is occurring on both Safari and Firefox, so it's apparently not a browser issue. My ISP is Hughesnet, the satellite ISP. Now, how did I get in here and why do I suspect Hughes? Because I have a back-up dial-up ISP, Juno, and I got in here using Juno and have gotten into all of the other sites I just mentioned using Juno. Only thing is, Juno takes eons. I mean EONS. As I said, I suspect Hughes. But, I thought I'd come here and seek help from you guys, I've received excellent and much appreciated help here in the past. I'm hoping that I'm wrong, that it's not a Hughes problem, and that someone here can suggest a way I can correct w/e is wrong with my settings (if, in fact, it is my settings).

I have Logitech MX5500 bluetooth keyboard and mouse connect to my Air via Steermouse.
Past week, the bluetooth is acting weird. When waking from sleep mode, sometimes they connect, most of the time, they won�t. I click on the bluetooth logo to manually connect, but the bluetooth option pop up 30 seconds later, not instantly.
I had to restart my Air to re-establish the connection. Anyone else encounter similar issue?

Everytime I upload that ical backup file... nothing happens in google calendar. It does nothing in Firefox... and safari I just get 0 was transferred. I just want to bring over my calendar to google. Does anyone know what is going on? Anything I am missing?
I just used the ical calibration tool to sync ical up with my google calendar and it works like a charm. I love how i can just click on dates in Mail and add them to my iCal which then pushes i to google calendar for my wife to see...that way i can sneak tennis or a round of golf in and she can't say she didn't know
At any rate-i would like to know if there's a way to pull her cal stuff to my ical. I can see all of her stuff on my google calendar, but i dont have the "right" to add her account to ical. I assume i could just have her enter in her login info - but i would like to know if that's the best way.
Trying to get them to talk to each other - I've input the Google account into iCal preferences, and it shows up fine. But I seem only able to sync one way - if I add an appointment in Google Calendar - then sync - it shows up fine in iCal. But if I add an event in iCal and then sync - it doesn't show up on the Google Calandar.
I would like to be able to sync iCal between my desktop and laptop. I'm not interested in upgrading to Lion to take advantage of iCloud, yet. Does anyone know of an app (preferrably free) that can do this?
