MacBook Pro :: Why Can't Safari Establish Secure Connect With Facebook
Jul 1, 2014
I've tried doing things with proxy. I've tried resetting Safari. I've tried doing things with cookies. I've tried disabling extensions. Next step is to try throwing my laptop out the window. This only started happening yesterday and there is no issues with other sites. It's not my internet connection. I can't get to Facebook by direct URL or through google or through links in my history. Macbook Pro bought in 2012 with Mountain Loin.

I have been having this problem for a while. It happens every now and then, sometimes more often too. Sometimes at random times, when I try to access https websites in Safari such as Internet banking, signing in into eBay etc, it has an error.
It says "Safari can't open the page because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server signin.ebay.com.au". To resolve this problem I always have to turn off my Airport and then turn it back on. See screenshot - [URL]
I've also tried opening it in Firefox and it also doesn't work. In Firefox, the error is "Data Transfer Interrupted: The connection to signin.ebay.com.au has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred." See screenshot - [URL]

I have read every single post on this problem, I have looked at keychains, plugins, extensions, you name it I ahve tried it. Facebook hasn't worked for three weeks and now Yahoo won't work either. I get the message that the server has dropped the connection. No luck. I also can't get facebook in FireFox or Chrome, so this is a systemic problem. I have run anti-virus, I have done everything imaginable and can't fix the problem. I can get FB, Yahoo, whatever on other computers using the same ISP, modem, and router.

In both Safari and Firefox, I cannot get certain website In safari I get this error message: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.google.com/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again. I have tried several different DNS providers (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) with the same results. I looked at my host file and it is unaltered. I'm running updates now, but don't think that is the issue 9I'll know soon). All the other mac and PC computers on this network are working just fine and get to the sites with no errors.

I'm looking to buy a new computer and want to upgrade to a Mac. However, I need to be able to connect my home computer to my work desktop since I work from home. The Corp. help desk says I can't do it, but they're also not IT professionals so I'm not ready to take their word for it. Here's what I'm using.
VPN Secure Client NGX R60 HFA2 (Build 001)
Remote Desktop
Work Desktop - Windows XP Pro
Searching the internet, I get the feeling that NGX R60 refers to the PC (Windows) version and NGX R65 refers to the Mac version. If I use Boot Camp, can I switch to Windows mode and connect that way? Is it a terrible PITA to do?

I was going to do some homework on Google Docs, and the login page would not load! It would simply try to connect for a while, then time out. After some experimenting, I noticed this happened with all secure web pages (https://), and that non-secure websites (http://) loaded fine. This happens in all browers. I tested Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Now, this only happens on my user account. This does not happen on my moms account, which I am currently on.We initially thought it was an issue with the parental controls, so we completely disabled them. But the problem still persists.

I was browsing on Twitter.com, and when I tried to follow someone there, it redirected me to Facebook.com. Now, whenever I type in twitter.com in Safari or Firefox I'm immediately redirected to facebook.com. In fact, twitter is being replaced by facebook in the url, so that if I type www.twitter.com/someone I get redirected to www.facebook.com/someone.

I have Logitech MX5500 bluetooth keyboard and mouse connect to my Air via Steermouse.
Past week, the bluetooth is acting weird. When waking from sleep mode, sometimes they connect, most of the time, they wont. I click on the bluetooth logo to manually connect, but the bluetooth option pop up 30 seconds later, not instantly.
I had to restart my Air to re-establish the connection. Anyone else encounter similar issue?

Anyone know why this comes up when I try to log onto Facebook? It only happens when I use Safari--not on Firefox or Chrome. I have my pop-ups disabled, so this is just odd. Can't figure it out.

In both safari and chrome when I type in my username, to login to facebook or ancestry.com or other sites, the browser suddenly acts as though it's been redirected and then returns me to the login page, The username box delets what I pe after about 4-5keystrokes OR it takes me to another login page and inserts the username and password, but won't do anything beyond that. A different user account on the same computer does not have that problem with logins, and I can login no problem if I am on the computer under that other user account.
the troubleshooter on apple support says to reboot in safe mode and see if it happens, however in safe mode, I cannot connect to my wireless network and the browsers won't open.

I have a eGo ITB 800 Firewire drive which has been running fine with Time Machine on my Leopard OSX 10.5 IMac. I just got a new IMac running Lion OSX 10.7.3 and want to migrate my files to the new machine. The new Lion IMac will not mount the drive. I updated the system software today, so it has the latest patches.
1. It appears under Devices in the Finder but Migration Assistant does not "see" it at all. Time Machine DOES recognize it as an Iomega HDD, though I have Time Machine turned off because I don't want to make a back up of the new machine until I transfer the files from the old one.
2. When I connect with Firewire 800, System Information will see a drive there, but it says "unknown device".
3, When I connect with USB, System Information will see the Iomega HDD there and report on it's specs.
4. I power cycled the drive to see if that would help and I got the warning that I should unmount drives first.
5. In the finder, I can see my old files on the Iomega.
6. I can't find any information on this one the Iomega web site, and they say that no software upgrades or drivers are necessary.
All of this implies to me that the disk is ok and the connections are ok. Does anyone know how can I get this drive mounted and working so I can transfer my files?

I have been using Safari faithfully since it was released, and in the last week it has developed a strange problem. I can't recall doing anything different that would have caused this problem, but now whenever I try to load a secure website (https), I get the error message "Safari could not load the page https:xxxx because it could not connect to the server." I have tried resetting Safari, but that didn't fix the problem. I have also thrown away the following files (Safari_1.2.pkg, Safari (folder), Safari (application), and com.apple.Safari.plist) and reinstalling a new version of Safari, also without success. I should add that Internet Explorer will always load the pages that choke Safari, but I hate using this program. Has anyone ever heard of this before, and does anyone know how to fix it? Here is a link to the error message I get when I try to log in to my .Mac account:

When I start up Safari and load my home page (google.com/ig) it takes way to long (>30 seconds). After doing some testing I found out that Safari seems to be hanging when I make secure requests. I found that out by removing the Gmail and Google Calendar gadgets from my home page and it loaded right away. But then when I go to gmail.com and log in I have to wait again. Also at that time I can't use any other tabs, they all just sit there and spin like they are loading.
Has anyone else had this issue? I know its a Safari issue because Chrome it just fine. Any ideas?
