I have always connected to my server remotely through an IP address.I have not been able to do this with my Macbook pro OS X 10.5.6.Apparently something about not being able to use active X on Mac.Anyone have any insight? Can't believe I am the only person trying to do this!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to do the bootcamp install of Windows XP SP3, and it failed for reason, not sure yet. Anyway, now the only way I can get my Mac to boot is to hold down the Option Key. Gives me a choice of the OS X hard drive or the OS X install DVD. However if I just turn it on and let it boot normal, it says not a bootable device.

I have a Mac Mini 2007 1.83 intel core 2 duo that i read is a 64 bit system? well i am trying to install windows server 2008 trial which i downloaded directly from the microsoft site. i then burned it to a disk using disk utility on my regular imac. When i put it in my mac mini though it gets to the boot up where it should be installing and says " non-system disk or no disk please insert a different disk and hit any key" i dont understand why it is doing this though. i but a ubuntu 11.10 iso disk in and it can read it just fine.

I have a 1.83 ghz intel mac mini. it has a busted internal cd drive, i use a sony dl dvd burner and 2 external hard drives. I have a retail copy of snow leopard. In the instructions, the guide says sl will install from an external optical drive. Heres what I have tried so far.
Installing from external optical drive- when i try this it goes through the normal verifications, i agree to eula, when i get to the grey screen with spinning apple, after a few minutes a "no" sign pops up, like a no smoking sign and my computer restarts and takes me to the login screen.
I thought maybe it was a disk space issues so i backed up, erased some items and freed up about 20 gb, giving me 30 gb of free disk space. tried again with installation and same thing happens.
next i went into disk utility and verified and repaired permissions, which was a lot, tried again and same thing. next i verified disk. disk is ok.
next i started thinking perhaps its the disk. so i tried to install sl on my moms unibody macbook. installation went fine, she is running 10.6 like a champ.
So then i decided to try a remote installation. i unplugged all usb devices, including the dvd burner and ran the remote install assistant. im using and ethernet cable connection, with the 2 computers plugged directly to each other, and i can browse both computers files from one another. when i restart the mini with the assistant running on the macbook, when i hold down option to select the start up device, the only option listed is starting from the mini's own hard drive and not the macbook.
I've tried everything i could think out with asking. But now i would really like some. If any one has any suggestions, i am all ears. Im gonna be heading for school now, and will respond with what ever I can after 10pm pacific.
I've got a mac mini running SL and W7, but I only ever use W7 on it. Is it possible to have a single partition on it running only Windows 7? Is it even possible to boot from a Windows & install disk *without* going near boot camp? I ask because it's only a 320gb hdd and I'd like to maximise the disk space on it - this isn't a yawnsome debate of W7 v SL
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a Mac Mini on ebay and it came with snow leopard already installed. Its been working great but today, i decided I want to swap the 80gb drive for the old 320gb drive from my laptop (the laptop got a shiny new SSD). Problem is, when i try to boot from the 10.6.2 install disc, it says that snow leopard cannot be installed on this Mac. Any way i can get it to install Snow Leopard on the new drive?
Also, I tried running the installer on the old HDD from inside the old Snow leopard install and it also said that it could not install snow leopard. It then asked me to restart and kept attempting to install Snow leopard and failing.
specs of Mac mini:
-Model Identifier: Macmini1,1
-Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz
-1Gb 667MHz DDR2 RAM
-4 USB ports
for the record, i think the guy i bought it from bought a new mac mini and just included the discs that came with the new one in the one he sold me. The instruction manual shows a mac mini with a mini display port. The only OSX disc i got from him was the snow leopard one. also, if it matters, this mac mini is the only mac computer that I own.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo im looking for a pair of hedphones that are a step up from my standard ipod headphones. Im not really a sound junky but hate ear buds and would like a better sound than what I've got. That being said, the only headphones that I find very attractive are the ADH-2000's. LOVE the look to the point that it has spoiled me and I dont want to buy anything else. The problem is that I have read in several places that you NEED to use an amp with these headphones, which would not make them ideal for every day commuting and whatnot.

standard specs for computers, like for both PC and Mac, like compare a laptop/desktop from 2000 (PC) to a Mac at that time, all the way to 2009, well most of the mac stuff would probably be easy but I want to see compare and contrast stuff sort of thing between the 2, since PC's are admittedly, if you have as much money to buy a mac, have really powerful specs compared to an iMac/Mac Pro, but almost every PC laptop pretty much sucks (except alienware, in terms of power and sexiness macbooks/pro win in every aspect, but are still more expensive).

My iBook (running OS 10.3.9) over the last week had been exhibiting some strange problems. Programs would often become unresponive, sometimes to the extent of a hard reset. The problems slowly got worse, until i decided that it would be best to back-up my 2000 songs in my iTunes library, and attempt to repair the OS. I didnt manage to back-up my music, as the computer was too unresponsive, so i went with the repair option. This attempt failed. I then tried to install the "OS and associated apps" in the hopes of being able to recover my music. This also failed, and seems to have corrupted my computer. Now, when i turn on my iBook, it has the grey screen for a while, before going to a black screen saying "/etc/master/passwd: no such file or directory" So now, im praying that there is some way to get my music back, or something that i can do to repair or re-install the OS, while retaing my files.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am trying to copy 2000 or so files (jpg images) from the hard drive of my imac running show leopard to a sd card. I keep getting the item "filename.jpg" can't be copied because there isn't enough free space. I can go back and copy smaller groups of files and then the file that I get the error on. But even coping 10 files I run into the error on certain files but I can copy all the other files in the selection and then the file that gave the error without a problem. All the files were exported from iPhoto resized to fit a digital photo frame I bought for a christmas present. Looking for a way to get the files to the sd card without coping small batches.

Short version: Paritioned Mar 09 Mini to have a 32 gig partition for Windows 7.Formatted Partition 3 BOOTCAMP to NTFS, now only have Windows 7, no option to boot OSX. Is it recoverable without reloading from the install discs?I believe this is user error on my part. Actually, I'm quite sure of it.
I have been trying to get Windows 7 installed on my EEE PC 901 on and off since it came out with RC1. Keep on running into troubles. So I think, why not boot camp it with my March 09 Mini? There's plenty of space, I'll give it a nice little 32 gig partition, install Steam on it, get some Left 4 Dead action..Well Boot Camp goes fine. I set up a 32 gig partition. I put int the Windows disc when prompted. Fine.
It goes to ask which partition to install to. I of course select Parition 3, BOOTCAMP. Cannot install to this partition... um... Hrm. Well there's a format button. It will format that partition to NTFS. Okay, I went ahead and did that.
Windows 7 installs, no problem aside from having to update the Realtek drivers for audio. Install Left 4 Dead. Works fine. Even resync the BT mouse and keyboard so I can be extra lazy. I've had my fun though, and then I go to get back on OSX. It goes to a white screen, then loads Windows 7.
I'm doing something wrong. I look it up online. Oh, hit the options key or hold it to choose an OS. No recognition, an off-white screen, then Windows 7. Oh, I'm using my BT keyboard, it must be that. I hook up a USB keyboard. Nothing. Hold X to boot directly to OSX. Fine. Oops, same thing.
Now I'm thinking back to choosing to format Partition 3 from whatever it was to NTFS. But unless I am missing something, OSX should still be recoverable without having to reload everything, unless I somehow flummoxed the MBR, right?Someone slightly more savvy want to chime in?
Correction: My friend was just over and is a big Mac guy. First question was, "you did put the OSX disc back in to complete the process once Windows loaded, right?"Problem solved? It just finished with the drivers, restarting, and now holding the Alt key will bring up the option. So that was it? Wow. Sorry about getting riled up for apparently nothing. Another question as an offshoot, since this does seem to be working rather well, can I expand that partition later on without screwing up OSX? I really don't have anything installed on the Mac side aside from iLife, Office08, and Boxee.
I searched for a while trying to find the answer but did not find it. I just installed Vista Business via Bootcamp. I am not able to access the internet or anything. If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?
