I just used the migration assistant to transfer my old pc files to my new macPro. The pop-up said the file transfer was successful. However, I cannot find the files on my MacPro. Where are they located? Where can I look?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe date in the menu bar is correct but Incorrect date Shown on Migrated Files. I bought an iMac running Leopard last 22 November and migrated all my files from my old eMac. Subsequently all my email messages have been dated 22 November 2008. Other timed events have the same date. And now that I've bought a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard and migrated files from the iMac, the same thing has happened. So, operating Time Machine for the very first time yesterday on the iMac, it displays the backup date as 22 November 2008.

I'm new to mac. Used migration assistant to transfer my data files and folders from windows 7 system. The files are there as I can search for a specific file and find it but I don't see any of the folders or files in finder. I have reviewed other forum entries asking questions like this and answers seem to direct folks to another user account but I don't have another user account on this system after migrating.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust spent several hours transferring my files using Migration Assistant from an older MacBook Pro (running 10.6.8) to a new one running Lion and find that all of my Microsoft Office files were converted to read-only. Also, get the following message when I edit and try to save PDF files: You don’t own the file 'xxxxx.pdf' and don’t have permission to write to it. A pain in the neck, but fixable. Three questions: What did I do wrong? Is there anyway to do a mass conversion from read-only to read/write?

So last night I migrated my old back-up to my new MacBook Pro, but this morning my new machine doesn't recognize my old back-up. I'd rather not erase and back-up from scratch for numerous reasons (losing the old data, time, etc).

I have just been looking at the presentation video "Advance in Core Images" from WDC: URL....What I have just realised, is that although images, folder structure and metadata can be migrated from Aperture to Photo - Images adjustments very likely cannot be migrated - Apple are changing the underlying mechanism by which image adjustments are being made and the stage in image processing where they are being made. For example, even if both tools have a "Brightness" adjustment, the effect of a 14% change in brightness may well be different.
Also, the set of editing adjustments in Photo will different than Aperture - even if you could migrate some adjustments - what would be the value of migrating some adjustments, but not all?In an Aperture to Lightroom migration metadata and folder structure information can be retained, original and final images can be retained, but the sticking point for may is that the adjustments and the reversibility of those adjustments cannot be retained. You cannot say, I want the same image, but with a little less sharpening and no noise reduction. It will be no different in the Aperture to Photo migration.
I got a new mac and used the built in Migration Assistant to copy all of my files and settings to the new mac. I got 2 errors afterwards...
/Users/username/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows XP Professional.vmwarevm/Windows XP Professional-000001.vmdk" could not be copied because it is too large. Try copying this file manually in Finder.
Users/username/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows XP Professional.vmwarevm/Windows XP Professional.vmdk" could not be copied because it is too large. Try copying this file manually in Finder.
I got back on my old computer and did a search and found the second file, but couldn't find the "Windows XP Professional-000001.vmdk"
When I try and launch Windows XP from VMWare it says its missing that file...Any ideas where it is? Is it possibly hidden?
I have checked both user accounts and nothing. My Hard drive has an extra 30 gb taken up so i know everything has been transferred over.

Every time I restart (close and reopen) Safari, I receive a pop-up stating "Your Safari extensions have been migrated."
When I look my my extensions in Safari Preferences, they have all been disabled... (and most aren't even there!)
I will re-enable the extensions, and everything is good... until I close/exit Safari and open it again, when I receive the migration pop-up and have to start all over again.
I am running Safari 8.0 and OS 10.10.1

After migrating from a computer with Snow Leopard to a computer with Mavericks, photo booth will not even launch. Trashed photo booth preferences pfile, fixed permissions in disk utilities, still no launch. Not that big a deal, I don't need to save any previous photo captures, but would like to know whats going on given how much I paid to upgrade to this new mac.
