Apr 1, 2012I'm new to mac. Used migration assistant to transfer my data files and folders from windows 7 system. The files are there as I can search for a specific file and find it but I don't see any of the folders or files in finder. I have reviewed other forum entries asking questions like this and answers seem to direct folks to another user account but I don't have another user account on this system after migrating.

Jan 12, 2010I know by the title you may be saying... here comes yet another post on iPhoto. But I have a suspicion it is much more than that. thus the post in the OSX category.Here is the short version...
I use to have a MacBook Pro (17" if that matters) with OSX 10.5 on it. Back in August '08 I bought a iMac (24") because I had to give the MacBook Back. When I set up the iMac I did the install that allows you to transfer your settings and files to your new computer before I erased everything on the MacBook.Some how I lost a bunch of Pictures I took and had on the MacBook. I just can't find them... i didn't have iPhoto on the MacBook but do on the iMac.
I thought I had lost the photos until one day I pointed the screen saver to my photo folder. Now I can see my photos in the screen saver slide show... but can not see them in iPhoto or in the Photo Folder.I have hope that they are somewhere on my computer but where and how can I get them into iPhoto?

Jan 30, 2009Yesterday, I had to re-format my external hard drive so that it could be "recordable" within Pro Tools, which wasn't a major issue, I just had to move everything from my Lacie drive to another drive, do the format, and then throw it all back on. It took a little while but this also included moving my nearly 60gb itunes library. Now that it is on the newly formatted hard drive, itunes doesn't seem to be able to find the majority of the songs any more. I've tried changing the music folder and a few other things, and there is no way I'm going through and doing the "cant find music - click here to find it" palava. Is anyone aware of a way that you can "mass find" all of the music in any way other than starting the library again and adding all the music (I don't really want to lose all of my play counts and ratings if possible!)

Apr 11, 2012I do a home photo editing business. One of a my clients sent me a disc that she zipped to compress because there were a lot of pictures on it. When I try to open it on my Mac Book Pro I keep getting an error message that it cannot find alias and what program do I want to use to open it. It also gives me an option to "fix alias" but it doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong? Why can't I open zip files on my Mac Book Pro? I should probably mention that the client also uses a Mac Book Pro and her pictures were in her iPhoto before she zipped them on a disc.

Sep 3, 2010I always use iPhoto to upload my pictures from my devices, Ive noticed that all the photos are stored under a single fumnail in photos.
If I wanted to transfer these photos to windows how would I separate all the pictures into the format windows views them in, so individual files. Also if i wanted to transfer to another mac do I just move the fumnail?
Also how do I go about transferring music?

Oct 25, 2009I've always had a MBP, so my extensive music and photos collection can't live on the laptop. I've always kept them on 2 externals and suffered some slow downs due to the setup. I just ordered a 27" iMac i5. I'd like to keep my 130GB collection now on my iMac. I use a buncha photoshop/ Lightroom. Was curious if I was to partition say 150GB for pics and 100GB for music if that would help out the computer at all? I really have no idea, just seems like the imac wouldn't have to sift through anything to find my pics when I go working on them.

OS X :: Can't Find Edited Photos In IPhoto
Jul 5, 2010I purchased photoshop elements and installed it on my iMac. In photoshop, I opened a photo that was in iPhoto, edited the photo, then saved it with a new name (to preserve the original photo - I simply added the letter "a" at the end of the file name).
Now I can't find the edited photo - it's not in iPhoto in the event that the original was in. I can locate the photo using the search magnifying glass in the top right of the screen, but I don't know where it's actually located to find directly. If I right-click the file name it appears to show a hierarchy of paths that seems to indicate it's in the same "event" (June 14, 2010) in iPhoto. But it's not. When I open finder and go to iPhoto library, it doesn't show the contents.

Feb 17, 2009My household has an iMac G5 that acts as a media hub and its getting slow. Instead of getting a new iMac to act as a media hub, I was considering buying a new Macbook and a 24" Cinema Display for so everyone with a Mac laptop in my household could have access to a big screen if they want it.
The issue is that the G5 iMac contains all of our media under separate user accounts. We stream this media all over the house and synch it with iPods, iPhones and an Apple TV. So is it possible to attach a large hard drive to the Airport Extreme and use it as a media server with multiple people accessing it from their laptops or will this multi-user situation turn into a user account nightmare? We all keep separate iPhoto and iTunes libraries so combining them into one is not really an option.Or would it be simpler to just use the laptops as adjunct machines and do all our file management (and Time Machine Backups) from a central iMac?

What I hope to do with it is a) Back-up files on my MB using Time Machine, and b) Back-up files I have on a 250GB Lacie portable HD full of photos/videos/music.I am requesting advice on how to back-up a back-up (ie. backup my Lacie onto my Seagate). Is there a popular freeware program that I should use to do that? I suppose I could just copy and paste the photos/videos/music, but I'm sure there's a free program that does syncs, which would be way more efficient.

Aug 30, 2009in prepartation for snow leopard I decided i better do a backup of my drive. I turned to trusty old super duper. i did a backup using "smart update" which in the past has left all my files on my external drive intact and copied over my main drive. however today it decided to simply erase the drive and then do a backup. It's NEVER done this before in the past, and i've now lost everything on my media drive: music, photos, movies, everything. can i recover what was lost? or am i completed effed in the a? the irony: doing a backup and in the process losing everything that counted.
