Intel Mac :: How To Get Favorites From PC Migrated To Bookmarks
May 22, 2012
How can I get my "Favorites" from my PC onto my iMac. Have, migrated them successfully but cannot get at them so as to put them in my iMac "Bookmarks". I have migrated all my software and this is showing on my iMac. But I cannot get my Favorites or also all my emails and their folders to work on the iMac. Have been using Yahoo mail on the PC.
In FINDER favorites can I reassign/edit the destination (properties) so that when I click e.g. on the "Pictures" link it takes me to my Pic folder on my external HDD instead of the default HDD in the iMac. I have twelve TB of data sitting on 2 Drobo devices and I do not intend to keep any data on the Internal 1TB HDD besides the programs. I know I can remove the current fav from the list and add a link myself but then I get an ordinary folder icon instead of the sexy camera icon. how can I change the icon on the folder.Â
I find when opening Safari that the first screen that appears is the 'favourites' and i find this most irritating. How do I delete it or at least stick it somewhere it doesn't keep appearing and bug me.
I Do Not care for this huge box that pops up now when I do a search on Safari. I wish they would not have added this lame duck that always seems to be in the way. How to get rid of this albatross?
I will be using Time Machine to copy my iTunes and iPhoto to my new iMac (Lion) At this point I can't think of anything else at this time. My current iMac, 6.5 years old has the vertical line, monitor screen problem. Since the Mac is vintage, it's not worth the $$$ to fix. It also has some Kernal problems that I can't seem to trace to any download/program that is not SL compatible. In any event, we like Firefox!!! We like Yahoo!!! We have a lot of saved favorites on Firefox that we want to be able to put on the new iMac. How the heck can we do this? Is there a way to Time Machine a browser/bookmarks?........or any method?

After using Firefox and many others on the Mac, it's now my default browser. It's the only browser that's in the dock, actually. But I have a complaint about it.On a MacBook, the screen isn't wide enough for all of my bookmarks to show up in the bookmarks bar. The "bookmarks" menu in the bookmarks bar is hiding the last bookmark I have. How do I get rid of that? The top menu already has a bookmarks pull down menu.
All my bookmarks in the bookmarks bar. I want to move them all so they are just in bookmarks menu dont want anything in bookmarks bar. I have edited renamed moved the bookmarks from bookmarks bar without a problem until I quite safari. Once I reopen safari all changes I made disappear and it reverts back to original with all bookmarks on bookmarks bar. what am I doing wrong that i cannot make permanent changes to my bookmark bar on Safari 5.1.3?
After my recovery drive went missing and trying to reinstall it, had to do a format of my hard drive and reinstall everything once I got OS X reinstalled and up-to-date, I tried to import my bookmarks from a backup bookmarks file, when I quit safari and re-open safari bookmarks were missing and default ones back in place. When searching though the forums for how to fix this problem but too know unluck they did not work.
I use Xmarks to sync my bookmarks from FF to Safari, but on Safari, the bookmark bar shows the number of link inside a Folder/Dropdown, is there a way to hide that ?
When I click on any bookmark or bookmark folder, I first get a black screen with what looks like the Safari symbol. This happened just a couple days ago. When I click on the black screen I get a full page at a time. I used to be able to open up bookmarks & folders directly to Safari. How do I return to the normal, usual way of using bookmarks & bookmark folders?
I prefer not to change the resolution of my iMac. I find that the bookmarks toolbar is not that easy to read with the default font size. How do I change it and make it permanent?
I just bought a new iMac to replace my 8 year old MacPro and was advised here to install all apps with a clean install rather than migrate 8 years of content over to the new machine. How do I transfer over my Contacts, Mail folders and Safari bookmarks?
I just used the migration assistant to transfer my old pc files to my new macPro. The pop-up said the file transfer was successful. However, I cannot find the files on my MacPro. Where are they located? Where can I look?
I am a new macbook pro owner.I migrated all my data over from a pc. Now my itunes won't work. The message says "itunes.library.itl" was created on a newer version download itunes now.The software update program says that my itunes is up to date.
So last night I migrated my old back-up to my new MacBook Pro, but this morning my new machine doesn't recognize my old back-up. I'd rather not erase and back-up from scratch for numerous reasons (losing the old data, time, etc).

I have just been looking at the presentation video "Advance in Core Images" from WDC:Â URL....What I have just realised, is that although images, folder structure and metadata can be migrated from Aperture to Photo -Â Images adjustments very likely cannot be migrated -Â Apple are changing the underlying mechanism by which image adjustments are being made and the stage in image processing where they are being made. For example, even if both tools have a "Brightness" adjustment, the effect of a 14% change in brightness may well be different.
Also, the set of editing adjustments in Photo will different than Aperture -Â even if you could migrate some adjustments - what would be the value of migrating some adjustments, but not all?In an Aperture to Lightroom migration metadata and folder structure information can be retained, original and final images can be retained, but the sticking point for may is that the adjustments and the reversibility of those adjustments cannot be retained. You cannot say, I want the same image, but with a little less sharpening and no noise reduction. It will be no different in the Aperture to Photo migration.
