MacBook :: Unable To Share Network Connection / Connected Via Ad-hoc Network?
Dec 31, 2010I have Alltel Mobile Broadband. Up until the other day, it's been working fine. I'd set up a network on my macbook after connecting to the Alltel network, then I'd enable internet sharing. Then my iPod Touch, iPad, etc would all be able to go online.
The past couple days, however, the connection just won't share.Anyone have any idea what could be doing this and how to fix it?
OS X :: Unable To Access Network Window / Network Settings Changed By Another Application
Dec 11, 2009My neighbor has an IMac with OS 10.4.11 installed. When I open System Preferences and select the Network icon, the Network window comes up but it is overlayed with a message that states: "Your network settings have been changed by another application." When I click OK, this same overlaid window comes back.
The only way I can get out of System Preferences at this point is to do a Force Quit. In other words, because this overlaid window appears, I am unable to access the Network window to look at TCP/IP settings, make changes, etc.
Next I went into System/Library/Preference Panes/Network.prefPane(more info) to look at the application that appeared in the "Open with" field. It stated "System Preference." I replaced this with a new "System Preferences from the Applications Folder, but the same thing happened - even after I rebooted the computer.
Please let me know how to solve this problem so I can access the Network System Preferences properly.

Feb 1, 2009I am running an iMac G5 (just pre Intel) using OS 10.4.11. My internet is via an external modem, ethernet connected. Everything is working fine (as far as I know!) However, for no particular reason I opened "System Preferences" and on clicking on "Network" was confronted with this:- [URL]. On clicking the OK button nothing happens and the only way to get out of System Preferences is to Force Quit it. As I can't get into "networks" in System Preference, I have no idea how the settings have changed. I can't remember when I last installed any new software - it's also ages since I looked at that section of System Preferences.

Sep 1, 2008i recently bought an Airport Express, and i finally took it out of its box after i purchased my new stereo. I connected the audio cable to the stereo and the airport unit and plugged it into an outlet. I opened up airport utility on my mac, AX appeared and i configured it to "join a wireless network". After completing the remaining steps, i updated it.. and waited for it to restart. Now here's my problem. It comes up with an error telling me it couldn't find the device after restarting. I have Verizon FiOS as my provider.. and I know that airport express has a history of trouble with the Actiontec router. Is there anything i can do with my current equipment to get this thing to work? I do not need to extend the network.. only join to use airtunes and print wirelessly... Also, my Actiontec router and FiOS connection are through my crappy dell pc downstairs, while i am using my 24" iMac upstairs in my bedroom trying to connect this. Should i change my router's settings?

Mar 13, 2012I have recently switched my internet service to Knology. I have an iMac (running OS 10.6.8), it has a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB of SDRAM. Both I and my wife have noticed that at times (more than it should be happening) when we try to load a webpage, it freezes and will not load or takes a long time to load. I am using Safari 5.1.2. Our modem is a Arris - 76DA cable modem wireless router combo. Is there a setting in the System Preferences or in the modem that needs to be reset? It seems to work without a problem on my wife's Dell laptop.Â

Intel Mac :: Why Do Have To Re-enter Network Settings Daily
Jun 19, 2012My network diagnostics remember my name, password, etc., but for some reason it won't connect to the internet the first time I try each day. I have to click on "Network Settings" and manually go through to change all the red dots to green. Like I said, I don't have to update, change, or manually enter anything; just click through the boxes. If it saves all my info, why can't I simply launch Safari from the beginning?

IMac Intel :: Unable To Turn On System / Changed Access Settings Of Some Files
Apr 3, 2009My girlfriend changed the user's name and the problems started (iMac wouldn't remeber system settings and denied access to some files and catalogs). When I wanted to fix the problem I probably made a mistake and changed the access settings of some files (finally even hard disk's settings). After this action my iMac doesn't start (the screen is white with the apple logo and nothing happens). Is there anybody who knows what to do now?

Everything works fine if I'm in the same LAN but as soon as I tether my laptop to my cell service and try to issue the remote lock nothing happens till the laptop is back on the network and it gets the lock request. I have changed the hostname of the lion server a few times if that broke something. Also the server is behind a NAT so do ports need to be forwarded?

Apr 4, 2009when I open my Network in System Preferences, "Network settings have been changed by another application" pops up and every time I click Ok, it pops up again, not letting me be able to access any other option in the Network window. The wireless icon has disappeared from my top bar and the only way I have managed to get online is via my ethernet cable. I have had nothing but problems since I started using my O2 Wireless Broadband dongle and I've noticed that behind the "Network settings have been changed by another application" notification, I can seen the Dongle has appeared as a new network connection option... but was never there before today (have been using the dongle for two months now)

Jun 7, 2009I have 3 computers at home: pc, IMac and Macbook air. The IMac has 2 external drives attached: one by FW800, formated as HFS+, and another by usb, formatted as NTFS. This was the usb drive attached to the pc, it contains all my media, and I used it as a server to access multimedia files on wireless lan. I now have it connected to the IMac, as the pc is now seldom used
Problem is, my Macbook air can't see this usb shared drive on IMac and I can't figure out why, either as guest or as registered user with admin permissions. The fw800 external disk is seen.

Feb 1, 2010My iMac (running Snowleopard) can't acces any share in my network. It consists of a NAS (DS209) and a mediatank (popcorn hour C-200). I have defined shares on the NAS and a share on the mediatank.
In Finder I see both the mediatank and the NAS. Both are connected according to Finder (resp. user=admin and user=nmt). However when I try to access a share on the NAS or the mediatank via Finder, I get an error-message:
"The operation can�t be completed because the original item for �XXXX� can�t be found."
Also I can't Time Machine get working using a specific share on the NAS. Time Machine recognizes the share, but when I select the share I get an error message OSerror 13.

May 17, 2009This looked like the best place to post this. I have two computers in my home, a 20" iMac with Leopard and a Desktop Dell with XP. There is an usb printer connected to the Dell, but its upstairs. The computers are connected through an ethernet cable. I was wondering if there was a way to print archives from the iMac to the usb printer. What i have been doing is either sharing the files and inserting them to a shared folder on windows xp or sending them to myself via email. I find both processes extremely annoying and boring, and would rather instead just directly send a command to the printer.

I can't seem to get the 'Macintosh HD' of the Macbook Pro to show up on the Imac's finder (running lion). The 'DJ' is the home folder.Â
Does anyone have any more knowledge on how to get it to show up? I have checked my Finder Sidebar items and all of them are ticked. I want to mount the whole Macintosh HD and not just the home folder.Â

Aug 30, 2014Just purchased a MacBook Air 13" notebook. My first ever use of a Mac. I have an existing home Wi-Fi network that has always been PC-based.Now, I have joust purchased a "book"t6-cfs-lucia10 written in Chinese!
My desktop PC has Bluetooth. I cannot get the Mac & PC to recognize each other. I can't share files across the network [on the Mac]. I can't even figure out how to restart the notebook or create favorites in Safari.Â
