This might be a "silly" question but here it is: I get this message: your startup disk is full. Do I need to delete files? What there is to do ? Where to look? Is it normal, my Macbook is getting really hot?

My air is saying my start up disk is full. How do I delete files from it? Is there a specific location I'm supposed to delete from, or is it just general files from everywhere--email, etc.

I have had my imac for 8Â months with 500gb space. It is saying my start up disk is full and when I check where the space is allocated 435 is in mail. I have tried deleting mailboex( I do have 4, 2 are IMAP and 2 normal) But the beachballs just roll.

When I try to download a file I receive an error that my start up disk is full. How does this happen and how can I remove files from the start up disk in order to download a movie or other files?

I have taken everything off my desk top and backed it up and it's still saying the same thing! I've also emptied the trash. I get it when I try to use Photoshop.

My iMac does not start up as usual. I now get a ' start up disk is full. You need to make space available on your start up disk by deleting files' message. Â I am able to key my log on password however I just get the purple galaxy screen with no desktop.Â
If I try to use the keyboard I get a tone when pressing the keys. Â
Has worked perfectly well up until I got this dusk full message. Â
Where do I find my start up disk. And how do I delete unnecessary items?

I keep getting a message that the start up disk is full on my macbook. I can't upload any more pictures or videos. I've only had my macbook for about three months and it says that there is only 10GB of 130GB memory left. I haven't got that much stored on it, maybe a few videos and 3,000 photos. I can't believe the macintosh disk is full. I have installed the new operating system, so could it be that?Â

I got an enormous external hard drive and it worked fine for a week or two, but now I am getting "start up disk is full" again-which is impossible-but obviously I am doing something wrong. This is so incredibly frustrating. I cannot even download new photos! If it can't be resolved, my new found love of Apple Macbook may return to reliable PC!!

Decided to encrypt my external backup drive. Instead, I essentially doubled my memory by duplicating my external hard drive and adding it to my MacBook. Now my startup disk is full and I'm stuck. I also have Time Machine but not sure how to restore (replace?) my Mac storage to what it was two hours ago.
View 6 Replies View RelatedYesterday I deleted enough files to give myself at least 2 gigs of free memory and yet today when I opened up my macbook it tells me I have only 190MB left, and yet none of the files that I deleted remain on the computer, and my trash is completely empty.Does anyone know of any sort of 'Detox' kind of program or method to get the Macbook to reanalyse how much memory it really has left? It's done this before, but I haven't figured out a way to snap some sense back in the harddrive to remind it of the fact that it deleted those large files ages ago.

My mackbook air keeps telling me that my start up disk is full. I delete items daily but keep receiving the same message. I have found that the problem may be that items are being saved in multiple areas on my computer. I don't know why this is happening and so I don't really know which copies to delete and which to save. It this point I cant even get software updates or compress files since there is not enough space available at this time.

I have an iBook G4 running OS 10.3.9.
For the past few days, this message: "Your startup disk is almost full" has been popping up. I've burned some CDs of photos, deleted unwanted files, music, etc. After deleting these things and emptying the trash, it told me I had just over 2GB of free space. However, this free space is getting smaller and smaller (even when I didn't have any applications open..). It seems to be just disappearing. In the space of about 12 hours (most of which I spent sleeping with the laptop turned off..), I seem to have gone down to 1.18GB. When I restart the computer, it sometimes tells me that I have what seems to be a random small number of MB or GB, sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller than what it originally told me, or even 0 when I restart, even though I haven't actually made any new files or downloaded anything!
I'm trying to download a new update on my MacBook Air, but it's telling me I need more space on my Start Up Disk. How do I make room on my Start Up Disk?

I am not sure what this means, or what I can do to avoid deleting files. Is deleting old mesages in Mail be enough? Do I have to delete applications? Maybe I need to bite the bullet and buy a new computer?

start up disc is full on my imac but cant seem to locate the file to delete, it show that i have 236gb usage and 14gb free space. and i have deleted all my movies, pics and music so i dont understand where the 236 gb usage is from.

I ran SuperDuper last night and the backup failed with an unknown error. After, Spotlight didn't find files. I rebooted and at the login screen was given the error message 'backup disc full, delete some files' - problem is, OS X won't boot beyond the starfield screen, so there's no way of deleting files or running the system. I took the drive out and put it in a USB caddy on another machine and ran Disk Utility - it said repairs were needed, so I did this. However, putting it back into the MBP nothing has changed, it still won't boot and insists the disc is full - there is over 180GB free! (I can see this when I mount it on another machine.)
View 4 Replies View RelatedAt work I am using a Mac os 10.3.9 and I have been getting a message telling me that the start up disk is full. Usually when I delete messages from the mailbox it gives me most of my memory back, but this time it didn't. I called my server and they deleted the messages from there, but that didn't do anything either. I have about 88 MB in my memory. Does anyone know what I can do to gain the memory back? I have went and repaired permissions, but that didn't do anything for it. I am not very computer literate and right now I am at home and do not have access to the computer.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOkay, so my iMac has been slowing down recently and I have gotten the pop-up saying the start up disk is full. When I got this, I went through and deleted a lot of things and moved things onto my external hard-drive. I can't remember how much space it got me, but it only lasted a few days. The same pop-up came up and I was confused because I hadn't really downloaded anything or done anything to use that space. Okay, so I delete more stuff. This second time I deleted enough (my whole downloads folder I forgot about) to get 15GB of space back. That was just a few days ago. Today, I got the same pop-up and had only 1GB of space left. I haven't downloaded ANYTHING especially 14GB worth at least for me to run out of space again.
