I have a late 2006 iMac that has just started giving me a message to reboot after a black screen comes down slowly from the top top of the screen to the bottom. I reloaded software and restored from Time Machine, but it keeps happening, now several tomes a day.

Imac has all the updates before I partitioned with bootcamp (52 GB) I inserted a Win 7 Pro 32 bit disc (OEM from newegg). It installed windows and auto rebooted, windows came up and auto booted again. All I got was a black screen, I think it just turned off. I tried powering the machine on and booted to windows, but a message asking if I wanted to boot normally or go into safe mode. Does anyone have an idea why I can't get past this step?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought my macbook pro 13 inch about a 40 days ago and I have just noticed two small black dots on the on the bottom of the screen near the left side of my dock. I have done some research and they seem to be "dead pixels" They're really small but for the price I payed i didnt expect any problems. What are some suggestions to get rid of them or if i should contact tech support? Here are two pictures of the dots: They kinda change colour when i move my head around.. Not sure if theyre dead pixels or not.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis happens on-and-off... if I click on a drop-down menu, or if I'm in a browser page, and try to scroll down, the page will automatically scroll back to the top, or if I'm in a menu (for example the Applications menu) and try to click on the Utilities folder, I'm not able to because the cursor starts scrolling back to the top. It's frustrating of course, and happens sporadically. I've done disc verify permissions, re-set pram. This all started awhile back when I found I had just about filled up the harddrive. I took over 100gigs worth of movies etc. and moved them to an external HD, hoping this would clear up the problem, but it is persisting. What can I do, short of re-installing the OS?

When I insert Disc 1, I hold down the C key, and the info pops up beautifully. I get really happy at this point. The steps it shows me are as follows:

I am able to get up to the "Select Destination" portion, where it asks me to "Select a destination volume to install the Mac OS X software"
However, there is nothing listed, so I cannot move on to the next step.
Desktop restart shows flickering black/white screen, then black. Could not restart.

I have a MacBook Pro with the 9600gt in it. Since updating to 10.6.4 this morning 2 times while playing java games i've had the bottom half of my screen go black and most of the top half flicker. I've had to hold in the power button and reset both times. The second time I closed the screen and reopened it, the screen was black but no mouse and nothing moved.
Any advice? Would this be something to do with my graphics card or possibly some error in 10.6.4?Edit:: This is software related to 10.6.4 update and only happens when I open up a java game in a browser.

I have a new imac. I was stuffing the web, tried to upload a picture, the website locked up, so I hard booted my iMac. Then when it came back on, and I get is the start up sound, and a gray screen, nothing else. Its been 5mins now!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried the two responses that said to delete some plugins to get Safari to let PDFs go to Finder so they could be downloaded. Didn't work for me. I'm guessing I accidentally changed something in Safari (Security?) that prevents the switchover; I don't get the four icons at the bottom of the screen for certain documents (Including the one inviting a download PDF to Finder), while it works for others. So I have to request paper copies of some forms to be snailmailed to me, rather than emailed.

I have a 2008 MacPro Octo 2.8GHz. Whilst I was in Vista64 (a separate drive, not visualization) I was playing a halflife game called day of defeat. The game froze twice, requiring a crtl-alt-del to release it and stop the application that was not working. When I then rebooted into OSX, the "You need to restart your computer" screen appeared in 4 languages, which I believe is the Kernel panic screen. I've done the hardware test that reports no problems (D key). I've tried re-installing the operating system, (C key), no go just panics. I've tried a safe boot (shift) lots of disk activity followed by a panic. I've even reset the PRAM, no effect.
The queer thing is it will boot into Vista64, but there is some screen corruption whilsts its booting, but once in, it works OK with the exception of playing any 3D games, they will not launch (re-installed drivers). Vista reports that there is no 3D hardware acceleration. Does OSX require 3D just to get past the login screen? I've removed some ram and removed all the other hard drives. I'm beginning to think the 8800GT is playing up, otherwise why would vista still work?, but not 3D games? Is there any software I can use in Vista to check the 8800GT? I also noticed that it seemed to be taking longer and longer to shut down.

As the title says, every time I reboot I get the multi-language kernel panic message (You need to restart your computer. Please hold down the power button for....). I've managed to get into the GUI by using different combinations of keys. I can't remember what they are (it's been different every time), but I believe one time it was holding 'x'. This time, I held Command+V to run what looked like a diagnostic POST (I actually did this to see where in the bootup it hanged, but instead it booted to GUI).
Any idea what this could be? I don't think anyone has added any third-party RAM (this was not my machine originally, I took over a position for another person), is there a way I can check if any RAM has been added?
I'm running 10.5.8 with 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 and a 2x2.66 Dual Core Intel Xeon.

So when I try to log in, the screen goes black, after a few seconds, when I move the mouse around, press a few keys on the keyboard, the login screen comes back. But the same thing happens when i try to log in, it just keeps going black.

my screen keeps going black randomly but everything in the background is still playing.
