I have a late 2006 iMac that has just started giving me a message to reboot after a black screen comes down slowly from the top top of the screen to the bottom. I reloaded software and restored from Time Machine, but it keeps happening, now several tomes a day.

It installed windows and auto rebooted, windows came up and auto booted again. All I got was a black screen, I think it just turned off. I tried powering the machine on and booted to windows, but a message asking if I wanted to boot normally or go into safe mode. Does anyone have an idea why I can't get past this step?

I turned it on one morning, and a black screen appears with the following message:

I have the Software Install Restore Discs 1 & 2.
When I insert Disc 1, I hold down the C key, and the info pops up beautifully. I get really happy at this point. The steps it shows me are as follows:

Read Me
License
Select Destination
Installation
I am able to get up to the "Select Destination" portion, where it asks me to "Select a destination volume to install the Mac OS X software"
However, there is nothing listed, so I cannot move on to the next step.
Where can I download it from? Or what else to do?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 MacPro Octo 2.8GHz. Whilst I was in Vista64 (a separate drive, not visualization) I was playing a halflife game called day of defeat. The game froze twice, requiring a crtl-alt-del to release it and stop the application that was not working. When I then rebooted into OSX, the "You need to restart your computer" screen appeared in 4 languages, which I believe is the Kernel panic screen. I've done the hardware test that reports no problems (D key). I've tried re-installing the operating system, (C key), no go just panics. I've tried a safe boot (shift) lots of disk activity followed by a panic. I've even reset the PRAM, no effect.
The queer thing is it will boot into Vista64, but there is some screen corruption whilsts its booting, but once in, it works OK with the exception of playing any 3D games, they will not launch (re-installed drivers). Vista reports that there is no 3D hardware acceleration. Does OSX require 3D just to get past the login screen? I've removed some ram and removed all the other hard drives. I'm beginning to think the 8800GT is playing up, otherwise why would vista still work?, but not 3D games? Is there any software I can use in Vista to check the 8800GT? I also noticed that it seemed to be taking longer and longer to shut down.
Whenever I try and watch a full-screen video, like on Engadget, the "Press Escape key to Exit Fullscreen" message never disappears. At first I thought it was Safari (v4.x) so I upgraded to 5.0.1 .. big mistake, saved for another topic, but it still does the same thing. It even happens in Firefox. I have a Spring 2010 MBP.

As the title says, every time I reboot I get the multi-language kernel panic message (You need to restart your computer. Please hold down the power button for....). I've managed to get into the GUI by using different combinations of keys. I can't remember what they are (it's been different every time), but I believe one time it was holding 'x'. This time, I held Command+V to run what looked like a diagnostic POST (I actually did this to see where in the bootup it hanged, but instead it booted to GUI).
Any idea what this could be? I don't think anyone has added any third-party RAM (this was not my machine originally, I took over a position for another person), is there a way I can check if any RAM has been added?
I'm running 10.5.8 with 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 and a 2x2.66 Dual Core Intel Xeon.

When I press the power button on my macbook it goes to the loading screen and stays there. It don't freeze it just keeps loading. I dropped it on the floor today but it worked after that.
View 10 Replies View RelatedOn my Macbook Pro (Tiger) I suddenly got an error message about running out of space on the start up disc (woking on a word 2008 document). Checking suggested I had only 124MB left.
A couple of days earlier I had 60gb free. Deleting a few gb of programs reduced the space to zero!
I couldn't work out were the space was being used but as most programs were now refusing to work. I just shut down.
On switching back on, the HD space had come back and I had my 60gb of free space back.
whether its a sign of a problem I should try and sort out, or is it just "one of those things".
2 days back I started getting this message "startup disc is full" I have aperture for my photos and deleted all the duplicates which should have freed up a lot of space.After deleting files when I go back and check it is still full.I have deleted files from Aperture trash and the trash on the toolbar also.Is this a virus? I personally dont think I have enough files to fill up 500GB, probably around 200 GB.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I was working on my MBP last night I noticed the computer slowing down, then a sheer black wash went over the screen and a prompt saying I need to manually power off and then power on the computer with several different languages below. When I did that the computer made the on sound, opened up to the apple logo in the center and the spinning gear below. But its stuck there! I can definitely hear the laptop running but it hasnt budged for the last 12 hours.

Just placed a new harddrive in my macbook pro and had the geeks at the Genius bar to install the OS system. Now I'm dealing with a clicking noise and a grey screen with a question mark on it. I've just bought a 500GB Western digital scorpio blue HD. I'm going to put it in my mac mini which I don't have yet. I have a macbook at the moment, so want to format the new drive so it's ready to put straight in the mini and use
Is it OK if i put the 500GB HD in the macbook, then boot it from disc and install leopard onto it that way? Or do i need to format the disc in some way before I install leopard?

I emptied my cache on Safari and my computer stayed frozen for a few minutes. I decided to re-boot, but every time I do so, it goes from the gray Apple screen to a blue screen and stops right there. I don't get the spinning wheel, but rather the black arrow that I can move about the blue screen, but nothing else.
Here's what I've tried with no success.
1. Re-booting via Safe Mode (Command-Shift). Instead of freezing on the blue screen, it asks for my password and after a few seconds it stops on the Snow Leopard Pink/Black Stars background. Same result, only the background is different
2. Resetting PRAM - No luck
3. Re-booting with the Snow Leopard DVD and using Disk Utility. I follow the necessary steps online. No luck
