Which adapter to use?
Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter
or
Mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter
the first one is cheaper (15ish), but the Cintiq manual says use the dual-link DVI adapter (50ish)
I don't want to get the dual-link if the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter does the same thing and is the same quality?

I installed the 10.7.3 Combo Update yesterday on my iMac (Early 2009) that has a Wacom Cintiq 21UX connected. Prior to updating, my system was working absolutely fine, and I could turn the Cintiq's power on/off at anytime without concern. Now, my system is consistently crashing when I turn the Cintiq's power off/on. A pop-up window appears that reads: "You must restart your computer." Again, this was not an issue prior to the 10.7.3 Combo Update. If I wake my iMac from sleep mode, with the Cintiq turned off, my system will immediately crash when I turn the Cintiq's power on. Similarly, if I cold boot my system with the Cintiq off, and turn it on at anytime after the Mac login screen appears, my system will immediately crash.

I currently own one of the first iMacs built in 2006 that were originally built for the education sector. This model doesn't have a Bluetooth card so obviously I can't use any wireless peripherals with it. Â But my question is whether I can use my iPhone 4 as a substitute. Is there any way to pair the iPhone with my iMac and use it as a Bluetooth access point?I'm planning on getting a Magic Trackpad for it and I don't really want to buy an adapter if I can somehow do this.Â

I'm looking to get a Wacom Cintiq for my illustration studio.
I'm using an iMac G5 running Tiger and I know Apple disabled dual monitors on their video card for iMac.
I also know that there's a freeware program that allows you to enable dual monitors if you've got the correct video card it's called Screen Spanning Doctor and it seems to have a pretty good reputation.
My question is this:
Will Screen Spanning Doctor allow me to use the Cintiq the way it's meant without any screen stretching or other screwups? Or am I SOL, and should I get a Mac Pro with Leopard and all that jazz?

I read an article written by someone who did this and I was just wondering if anyone here has done it as I'm not sure if the Cintiq will immediately display the system or if the install CD needs to be run first... in which case there'd obviously be a problem since it's the only monitor I'd have!Â

I will buy soon a mac pro 8-core 2,44Ghz and I wanted to know if there was a dvi port on the tower because I must connect a Cintiq Wacom 21ux on it. If there isn't a dvi port, is there another solution to connect it?

I've been getting the dreaded "Signal out of Range" error whenever I try to switch my tablet over to a 1280 by 800 resolution, so I've had to settle for 1280 by 780 or so, but it's harder for me to draw that way as the image looks stretched out. I'm using a DVI outlet at the moment, so I'm just curious, if I bought a VGA adapter, would I still be getting this message? I want to be able to use my tablet with the best resolution but have my tablet still process everything without it cramping out.

I have recently purchased a Wacom Cintiq and it works fine with my PC desktop, however, all of my drawing and painting software is on my macbook. I have been having problems getting the Cintiq's display to work.
The Cintiq basically works as an additional monitor, and has a DVI-I cable. The Cintiq came with a DVI-I to VGA adapter, so I simply bought a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter at Best Buy (the apple brand adapter). I hooked the adapters together, turned on the Cintiq then turned on the Macbook and went to "Displays" under "System Preferences". I clicked on "Detect Displays" and the Macbook was able to detect the Cintiq fine. I then did what the Cintiq manual told me to do by configuring the resolutions and all that, but despite this the Cintiq did not pick up any screen from the Macbook. The error message on the Cintiq read that it did not detect any input from my Macbook, which is odd because the Macbook was able to detect the Cintiq just fine.
When I connected my Cintiq to my PC (by use of the DVI-I to VGA adapter as well) the Cintiq picked up the screen within seconds of turning on the PC. What is the problem here? I really do love my Cintiq but it is useless if I cannot use it with my work Mac. Do I have to buy a new adapter or am I doing something wrong with setting up the monitor? Or are the Cintiq and Macbook simply incompatible?

I have two MacBook Pros, each about 6 months old. They are both running the latest version of Lion. Neither one will pair with any bluetooth device. I always get an error message saying "this device does not have the necessary services".I have a Canon printer that won't pair, and I thougth it was just a compatibility issue until I tried to pair a Jawbone Jambox (which used to pair), and a brand new Bose portable speaker. I get the same message every time.

I want to pair my MBP (high res antiglare) with a 24" monitor. The colour levels on the MBP are really good and I'm a little worried about buying a monitor and setting them up side by side and not having the two match in terms of quality.
Can anyone recommend a good monitor that is of equal quality to the MBP antiglare screens? I've read good things about the Dell ST2410 which is within my budget.... if really pushed I could go for the U2410 but would really rather not spend that much. Are there any other monitors that are cheaper than the U2410 that have 'mac mode'?

We have a 20" monitor that my wife mainly uses, but I like to use it sometimes too. We have just been using the built in keyboard with the external display.
We want to buy the bluetooth Apple keyboard, but we are wondering if it's possible to pair 1 keyboard to 2 Macs. Is it as simple as turning bluetooth off on the Mac that's not using the bluetooth keyboard at the time? Or would we have to set up and go through the process of pairing them every time it needs to be connected to the other Mac?

I've recently received my refurbished March 2009 Mac Mini. I want to use it as a media center and have an harmony remote that I would like to use to control it (mostly for boxee). My problem is that I can't seem to find a way to pair my remote with it. Let me explain.
So I launched Logitech Harmony Remote Software and added a new device, the Apple Mac Mini. I then updated my remote and finally updated my remote. Now, I have a macbook pro and a mac mini. Without pairing anything, I can effectively control the sound on my macbook pro, but not on my Mac Mini. Yes I've checked in the system pref in both machines, nothing is paired and I do not have a real apple remote.
If I use the pair function, it does pair with my macbook pro and keep controlling it and still does nothing on the mac mini (expected). If I unpair it then close my macbook pro and use the pair function near my mac mini, it still do not want to pair.My question is, aside from bringing it to the apple store to get it checked, is there a way to test if my IR port is working on my mac mini?

Every time I try to "discover" my new MBP with the Apple bluetooth keyboard, to wake the laptop up from sleep, it fails and I have to go through the process of setting up a bluetooth device. However the pairing takes forever, sometimes doesn't work at all, and I have to type in a new pairing code each time. The whole process takes between 3 and 20 minutes, depending on how quickly the MBP can find the keyboard. I have the same problem with both Apple wireless keyboards at work and home, so it's not the keyboard.

Several months ago, my white Apple Wireless Keyboard began malfunctioning - for example, typing 'a' would result in 'ahz'tu' or something to that effect. I thought perhaps the keyboard needed a thorough cleaning, so I turned off my computer and keyboard, removed all of the keys and brushed it clean with a stiff-bristled brush.
I replaced all of the keys (with the help of a diagram) and turned on my computer. However, my keyboard would not connect, and remained in 'discoverable' mode (the light on the back was blinking three times in succession). I turned it off, unpaired the computer and keyboard and replaced the batteries. Nothing changed.
Using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, I tried to make a new pairing. The Setup Assistant recognised the keyboard as a discoverable device, but when it came to typing in the passcode and hitting Return nothing happened, and the connection timed out. I tried several times to enter the passcode; I closed and reopened the Setup Assistant; I restarted the computer and keyboard; and tried more than one fresh batch of batteries.
Since then, I have tried:
- repairing the keyboard everyday
- deleting all Bluetooth pairings (mouse, mobile phones etc).
- installing the latest Bluetooth firmware update
- deleting Bluetooth preferences in Library > Preferences
- running permissions repair on HD
- pairing with a separate D-Link dongle (tried every USB port, too)
- resetting PRAM
My Apple Wireless Mouse still works (connects and pairs). The keyboard wouldnt pair with another computer (MacBook running OS 10.5).

Black MB running latest updated version of Snow Leopard, iPhone 4 running iOS5.1.1 (profile info below is outdated). I also have an non-G3 iPad that's running iOS5.1.1 and have no problem tethering it to the phone. I want to use the phone as a personal wifi hotspot occasionally for my computer but Bluetooth panel in System Preferences shows a red light and says that the iPhone, which it apparently can see, is not connected. I've tried deleting reference to the other in both devices and starting new connections. I got as far as having a connection code display on the MB that I was to type into the phone. As soon as I did so, the connection if there was one at the time broke. I've read a whole lot of threads where users have had problems with USB connection for tethering their computers, but not much about Bluetooth connectivity issues. I know that Bluetooth might not be the most stable product in Apple's inventory but I've had zero issues with the iPad, even when we're in the car and in areas where the cell signal is iffy. I need to be able to use the computer the same way for business.

Just upgraded to Lion tonight. My HP Laser bluetooth Model N558 mouse which worked perfectly on the 17" macbook pro using Snow Leopard NOW will not pair with Mac. Downloaded the latest HP drivers, did a software update, restarted but mouse attemps to pair for about 1-2 seconds and then error message comes up saying the Mouce cannot pair with the Mac. Very frustrating and not finding any answers on MAC or HP forums. Error message on "select bluetooth device" says, "The device does not have the necessary services." It sure had the necessary services using Snow Leopard. Next error message, "The paring attempt was unsuccessful. The device is refusing the paring attempt..." Â
No matter what I have tried, new batteries, restarts, take out batteries for 10 minutes, holding down 'discover' button for 10 seconds. I've tried just about everything mentioned in the forums.Â

I got an IR sensor from someone and i know it works, because it turns on I see the light in the front, and it shows up in the System Info. If I go into settings I See it now has the option to pair a remote. The Remote won't pair though.
This is on a early 2014 13" Macbook Pro Retina. So will it not work at all on my macbook.
