Apr 13, 2012I currently own one of the first iMacs built in 2006 that were originally built for the education sector. This model doesn't have a Bluetooth card so obviously I can't use any wireless peripherals with it. Â But my question is whether I can use my iPhone 4 as a substitute. Is there any way to pair the iPhone with my iMac and use it as a Bluetooth access point?I'm planning on getting a Magic Trackpad for it and I don't really want to buy an adapter if I can somehow do this.Â

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: MacBook Will Not Pair With IPhone
May 23, 2012Black MB running latest updated version of Snow Leopard, iPhone 4 running iOS5.1.1 (profile info below is outdated). I also have an non-G3 iPad that's running iOS5.1.1 and have no problem tethering it to the phone. I want to use the phone as a personal wifi hotspot occasionally for my computer but Bluetooth panel in System Preferences shows a red light and says that the iPhone, which it apparently can see, is not connected. I've tried deleting reference to the other in both devices and starting new connections. I got as far as having a connection code display on the MB that I was to type into the phone. As soon as I did so, the connection if there was one at the time broke. I've read a whole lot of threads where users have had problems with USB connection for tethering their computers, but not much about Bluetooth connectivity issues. I know that Bluetooth might not be the most stable product in Apple's inventory but I've had zero issues with the iPad, even when we're in the car and in areas where the cell signal is iffy. I need to be able to use the computer the same way for business.

I am unable to reinstall the default OS (Mountain Lion) because I have yet to be able to partition the HDD correctly. The error I keep getting is:Â Partition failed with the error: Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed.At this point, the default Macintosh HD isn't showing, so it must of been erased/deleted.Â

Jun 7, 2012My hard and back up disk both failed on the same day, strange but the kids were on the computer and things happen.Running Mac OS 10.6 I paid $800 to "super geeks" to recover the pics > 30,000 (many duplicates)I will receive a 500 gig external drive from them today via Fed Ex with the pics recovered . My plan is to move them to my iMac (had a new HD put in) but I do not want to transfer 30,000 pics priorto running duplicate annihilator & thumbnail annihilator on the new external drive. Is there an easy way to do this > looking for help?Can I run the programs on the recovered drive I will receive today prior to my transferring? Or is there a more efficient way of doing this.

Now, normally I probably wouldn't have such a problem with this, however, some times when I put my iMac to sleep, I get a grey screen with a folder containing a question mark and a "non" sign over it. I have no idea what this means but I usually cannot turn my iMac back on for a half hour before it works again.

Jun 21, 2012I tried to install windows through boot camp and it failed for some reason, now when I startup I get a white screen with the startup chime followed by a black screen with a blinking line in the top left of my screen. Is there a solution? (It's still under warranty, also)Â Also, if I leave the windows install disc in, it tells me to "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" (or something similar), but my iMac doesn't to respond to my key mashing efforts.Â

I always get an error message saying "this device does not have the necessary services".I have a Canon printer that won't pair, and I thougth it was just a compatibility issue until I tried to pair a Jawbone Jambox (which used to pair), and a brand new Bose portable speaker. Intel Mac :: Iphoto Lost All Photos / Request To Server Failed?
May 29, 2012I have a 2011 intel iMac. It is the (supposedly) powerful 3.1ghz i5, and i upgraded the RAM to 12 Gig. Before buying this machine I had a 2008 iMac and LOVED it, it was superb. But this machine is SLOWER than that one was?! I am running OSX lion, iLife 09 and iWork 11. I am having a nightmare with this machine, it hands constantly, i only have a few apps open and still it can take 5-10 seconds (beachballing) for finder to draw my files when i open a folder. This can't be right. I have reloaded the entire machine from scratch twice by cloning files off and then MANUALLY rebuilding it (not using Migrate Assistant to ensure to i was not bringing any bad data or bugs across from old installation or old machine). It is slow as a dog, way slower than my old iMac which had a mere 2 Gig of Ram! If i open more than 10 browser tabs in Safari it goes so slow I can't use the internet. The machine crashes at least twice a week and just hands so I have to force shutdown, and my latest error is iPhoto just lost ALL my photos, 5 years worth and gives the error "Request to server failed" but says nothing else of any use. I am hoping to recover them with TimeMachine but wait and see on that score as nothing seems to be right with this machine so no doubt TM will play up as well.
I have VMWare Fusion installed, latest version. It does seem slower when running that, but it still crashed and plays up when that is not running so I am sure that is not the source of any problems, it just makes them a bit worse due to processor usage.Is it possible to get an iMac diagnostically checked (hardware) at an Apple store? It is still under warranty this machine, but I can't drop it off at a store without wiping all my data (clone) to external drive, because I have confidential information stored on it which I can't leave on if the machine leaves my office. I struggled to afford to buy this machine, and thought it would sky rocket my performance and speed after my old machine started to get slow due to age, but even at its worst it was never this bad. I am now a very very disappointed Apple lover, ex-lover?! One final point I should mention, I upgraded the RAM myself, using proper stuff from Crucial. I read that it didn't matter what order the RAM cards were fitted in, is that true or should I try moving them around?

Jun 6, 2012I just bought a new iMac yesterday at the Apple store. I connected it at home to install a few programs, and the internet worked perfectly. (I also own an older iMac plus a unibody Macbook.) I go to the office today, and the wireless and ethernet cables connect and show bars, but fail to load any pages off the internet. All of the other computers in the office are PCs and connect perfectly fine to the internet using both wifi and ethernet cables. It's just the iMac.

IMac (Intel) :: Logging Into Account Failed Because Error Occurred
Jun 22, 2014I just had Apple replace the hard drive on my iMac due to a hard drive failure. I restored my data from my WD back-up drive and that seemed to go fine, but when I try to log onto my computer for the first time since the drive change, I get this error message: "you can't log into the FileVault user account 'my account name' at this time. Logging into the account failed because an error occurred." This comes at the screen where you enter your password for password protected login. Note that I've always used the password protected login and I have not forgetten my password. I shut down and restarted a couple of more times, but I keep on getting the same message.

Can anyone recommend a good monitor that is of equal quality to the MBP antiglare screens? I've read good things about the Dell ST2410 which is within my budget.... if really pushed I could go for the U2410 but would really rather not spend that much. Are there any other monitors that are cheaper than the U2410 that have 'mac mode'?

Jul 6, 2009We have a 20" monitor that my wife mainly uses, but I like to use it sometimes too. We have just been using the built in keyboard with the external display.
We want to buy the bluetooth Apple keyboard, but we are wondering if it's possible to pair 1 keyboard to 2 Macs. Is it as simple as turning bluetooth off on the Mac that's not using the bluetooth keyboard at the time? Or would we have to set up and go through the process of pairing them every time it needs to be connected to the other Mac?

Jan 2, 2010I've recently received my refurbished March 2009 Mac Mini. I want to use it as a media center and have an harmony remote that I would like to use to control it (mostly for boxee).My problem is that I can't seem to find a way to pair my remote with it. Let me explain.
So I launched Logitech Harmony Remote Software and added a new device, the Apple Mac Mini. I then updated my remote and finally updated my remote.Now, I have a macbook pro and a mac mini. Without pairing anything, I can effectively control the sound on my macbook pro, but not on my Mac Mini. Yes I've checked in the system pref in both machines, nothing is paired and I do not have a real apple remote.
If I use the pair function, it does pair with my macbook pro and keep controlling it and still does nothing on the mac mini (expected).If I unpair it then close my macbook pro and use the pair function near my mac mini, it still do not want to pair.My question is, aside from bringing it to the apple store to get it checked, is there a way to test if my IR port is working on my mac mini?
