My printer, an HP Officejet 8500A, has reset itself at 66% and everything printed comes oout too small. how do I change the default setting back to 100%? I can do this via the drop down print box but I'd like to make it a permanent fix.

Every time I hit the print button on my Mac (I have an HP PSC 1210 all-in-one printer) the document prints at 10%. I know, I have to go into page set up and when i do that, the scale is always at 10% so I have to change the scale to 100%.why is it not automatically set at 100% anymore? And how can I make the print scale default to 100% so I don't have to go into page set up everytime I want to print?

A couple days ago after restarting my imac I was shocked to find that my personal preferences had been reset to default and that some programs were behaving like they had just been installed. Firefox for instance asked me to import settings from safari, after skipping importing i found that all my bookmarks and add-ons were gone.

Today the IT department at my university set up my Early 2008 MBP to work with the library WiFi. While doing this they completely messed up my airport settings so now I cannot connect to my home network. Is there anyway I can reset the network settings to default like they way they were before? I want to reset the default ambient brightness, because it stopped changing by itself after I manually changed the brightness with the keyboard. I made sure that ambient light changing was enabled in the System Preferences. From past experience, I think that deleting the preferences.plist file will do the trick, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

Quite a while back, I had a real problem after installing some software from source that changed a lot of environment variables and stuff. Undoubtably, trying to rectify the situation without enough knowledge just exacerbated the problem.
Anyway, I still have a lot of frustrating problems when working in command line. For example, I just got an error telling me gcc isn't installed. Well that's unlikely, considering how much compiling I tend to do outside command line! However, whereis gcc does nothing.
Basically, I want to just reset all the problems I have caused and just set my paths back to default. I mean everything. Problem is, I dunno what they should be, and I don't know where to start. I know I have to sort my .profile, but even that is a bit taxing.
Which files should I be changing, and what changes should I make
Over the years my finder windows have been set to different colors, font sizes and so on. When I make a change I select the make default box in the show view options, but they never default except for that one finder window. I have erased com.apple.finder.plist and just for fun the com.apple.sidebarlists.plist but can not get the finder to go to a true default. Is there another plist that I am missing?

I was trying to modify my monitor settings and hit the detect monitors button by mistake thinking it may help a sizing issue. Now after start up white screen with apple in the middle the monitor goes blank. Is there a way to restart while holding down keys to reverse this since I can't see anything on display?

If I reset Safari, it will often crash if TOP SITES is the first window Safari reopens with.
The crash may also be aggravated by my attempt to type something in the search bar, right after I reset.
I have now set Safari to open with a homepage, and now I can reset Safari at will and it no longer crashes after a reset.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy newish Canon LBP 6000 printer periodically stops working. I've always managed to get it going again by reinstalling it. This time, nothing I do is working. Here is a screen shot of what I get.
When I try to print, (first window, top left), the "sending data to printer" message goes on endlessly. I tried unplugging the printer USB from the computer, and then got the second window ("the printer is not connected"/"the printer is offline"). If I try to get supply levels, through System Utilities, the information is not available. Does that mean the computer can't read/send data to the printer? When I try to open Printer Utility, I get the "Printer Error" message (last window) saying "there are no registered printers. Add a printer..." But I've added the printer several times, after downloading the proper software.
I reset the printer system. When I added the printer back on, it came up with the old information:
P.S. From the first time I set up the printer, about a year ago, it always took much longer to read a document and start printing than our almost identical printer at work. That one invariably starts printing (on a PC) within 2 or 3 seconds; mine, on the Mac, takes at least12, often more.

Running WindowsXP SP3 using VMWare v2.0.2. In settings under printers, the box is checked which says, "Enabled - All printers installed on the Mac will automatically be added to the virtual machine." The other radio button is also filled which says, "Default printer for this virtual machine: Match the default printer on the Mac"
The problem is that VMWare isn't picking up my default printer which is an HP PhotoSmart 8200 series. The only printers that XP finds are OneNote since I have Office 2007 installed and QuickBooks PDF converter since I have installed Quickbooks Pro 2009. I've also made sure that on the Mac side in the Printers and Faxes dialog box that the "Share this printer" box is checked.
I have an Epson Workforce 845 Printer. It is working well. However, I am running into one annoyance. The Epson printer will take envelopes in Cassette 1. I ahve envelopes loaded there and plain letter paper in Cassette 2. When I print an envelope it is no problem. I simply in the Print dialog select the Envelope preset and it works well. However, I don't wish to select a plain paper preset *each time* I print an ordinary document. However, the Default print settings defaults to Casette1 and I see no way to force it to default to cassette 2 except when I don't select an override.
