Anyone else have this happen to them - i.e. their preferred sound volume setting was not saved after 10.6.2 was installed? It's not a problem per se, because sound output still works normally, and the volume can easily be changed back, but still... it strikes me as odd.

When I plug my headset or earbuds into my Mac Book Pro, the volume automatically increases to half way. Which in some cases, actually most cases, its blasting. I've adjusted the volume in system preferences and nothing works. Is there a terminal command or a change to a Plist to control this before I?m forced to sue Apple for causing my deafness?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI normally have my MBP on full (or mostly full) volume, but when I plug in headphones, I drop it down to the absolute lowest (or one up from that) level. Anything higher than that is deafening with my headphones. Normally my MBP automatically dropped it down to about that level whenever I plugged in headphones, but recently its only been dropping it down to the halfway point. This causes momentary deafness as I hit play on my iTunes, forgetting its only halfway down, and additional deafness from the clicking as I frantically hit Fn-F4 to lower the volume. Is there a way I can set the default level that OS X drops the volume to when I plug in my headphones?

I want to reset the default ambient brightness, because it stopped changing by itself after I manually changed the brightness with the keyboard. I made sure that ambient light changing was enabled in the System Preferences. From past experience, I think that deleting the preferences.plist file will do the trick, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

Quite a while back, I had a real problem after installing some software from source that changed a lot of environment variables and stuff. Undoubtably, trying to rectify the situation without enough knowledge just exacerbated the problem.
Anyway, I still have a lot of frustrating problems when working in command line. For example, I just got an error telling me gcc isn't installed. Well that's unlikely, considering how much compiling I tend to do outside command line! However, whereis gcc does nothing.
Basically, I want to just reset all the problems I have caused and just set my paths back to default. I mean everything. Problem is, I dunno what they should be, and I don't know where to start. I know I have to sort my .profile, but even that is a bit taxing.
Which files should I be changing, and what changes should I make
Over the years my finder windows have been set to different colors, font sizes and so on. When I make a change I select the make default box in the show view options, but they never default except for that one finder window. I have erased com.apple.finder.plist and just for fun the com.apple.sidebarlists.plist but can not get the finder to go to a true default. Is there another plist that I am missing?

I was trying to modify my monitor settings and hit the detect monitors button by mistake thinking it may help a sizing issue. Now after start up white screen with apple in the middle the monitor goes blank. Is there a way to restart while holding down keys to reverse this since I can't see anything on display?

If I reset Safari, it will often crash if TOP SITES is the first window Safari reopens with.
The crash may also be aggravated by my attempt to type something in the search bar, right after I reset.
I have now set Safari to open with a homepage, and now I can reset Safari at will and it no longer crashes after a reset.

Running 10.7.4, MacBookPro Mid 2010.
After hardware failure (read heads on HD gave out. AppleCare replacement of HD. Third party data recovery and reinstall on my new HD.) I connected new Ext HD for Time Machine, and Time Machine has corrupted my startup volume.
Took to the repair shop and they said the Time Machine preferences file was corrupted, which left all my system drive data in a read-only state after backup. They trashed the pref file, and reset the permissions/read-only flags on my startup volume.
1) How do I reset the file permissions myself? (so I can nuke my Time Machine backup, manually back everything up, and manually recreate my entire system drive?)
2) Do you think since the data recovery place (Apple Authorized BTW) rewrote all my original data to the new HD, some "random" corruptions were copied over? Or is this a problem with Time Machine? (Which is why I want to do a manual reinstall/restore.)

I know, I have to go into page set up and when i do that, the scale is always at 10% so I have to change the scale to 100%.why is it not automatically set at 100% anymore? And how can I make the print scale default to 100% so I don't have to go into page set up everytime I want to print?
