Intel Mac :: Restore Lion OS From Lion Server Time Machine Backup?
May 3, 2012I am running a Intel Imac 2008 clean install SL then Lion upgrade, followed by Lion Server install.I have multiple home macs, and intnded the server as a way to monitor and restrict kids internet use.In short, it has changes/screwed up multiple programs, and complicated home sharing issues considerably. Mail on the server machine has permission problems (cannot send mail, unable to sign), Spotlight in mail is non-functioning, finder spotlight searches are inconsistent, etc.I want to revert to plain old Lion.
I have done disk utility/verify disk and verified/repaired permissions, and have 'fiddled' (i'm not an expert) in the keychain/certificates areas, but I think the best solution is a clean install of Lion. When I backup to TIme Machine, is there a way to pull a 'Lion' version of my disk image back, and just not upgrade to Server? I understand I can disable Server and turn off applications in Server, but it doesn't fix my buggy machine. My options are to back up my 250GB of music, 100GB of photos, 100GB of movies, etc on to external drives, and clean install and then reimport everything, but even that will probably mean I cant reinstall my single user licesnse of MS office, VMware fusion, etc that I didn't buy on the App store.

Aug 31, 2010i have a G4, serial number qt21106cl3v. i just installed os x 10.2.3. i cant get on fb or any site that uses flash. it says for me to download shockwave. ive tried and it wont install. i tried to download a new browser, like firefox, or another version of safari and i have no luck.
i cant decide whether its a virus or what. i just got the computer from a yard sale and its in excellent condition. i had to reinstall os x though cuz it had no os. any ideas?? you can find additional info by searching for specs through the serial. i have no prior knowledge of macs and am trying to learn quickly.
also, as in the heading, safari keeps crashing when i try to download any kind of new browser, and the auto updates arent working either.

I have downloaded Gimp, dragged it over to "Applications" and the installation asks for X11 "where is X11?" and I cannot find it!

Mar 23, 2009I've been a Mac user for a few years now, and really love the apps on the Mac, and 99% of the time, never need anything thats on Windows. However, the time has come that I need to open a windows app via Darwin. Its asking me to install x11.app - which I've tried to do, but when I download it, it says there is already a newer version installed. I've never heard of, let alone installed x11.app before, so this confused me a little.
I've come onto these forums, and had a little search, to which I found out that you need to do something with the original OS disks to install x11.app via the install disk. I no longer have the install disks - I moved house 6 months ago, and had 3 boxes lost in transit, (Including my PS3, nearly 50 games a DVD player and all CD's / DVD's ) - and have never recovered them.
Is there any other way I can get this app to install?
