My daughter recorded something on iMovie, but she wanted to import some video she took from our camcorder. She put the video on a DVD but she can't seem to drag the video onto her existing iMovie.
I called Apple's support service and they suggested I try loading the video directly from the camcorder but they couldn't help me with that as it's not an Apple product (the camcorder is a: Sony) They suggested to put the camcorder on some type of mode that the computer could recognize????
The other suggestion they made was to get a third party application that can "rip" the images from the DVD so it can be imported into iMovie. Again, they couldn't help me because it's not their product.
I'm not very really familiar with any of these things so I was hoping someone would be willing to help me figure it.
I am having an incredibly frustrating time trying to connect my iMac to a Panasonic Viera TV.
Using a mini DVI to DVI adapter attached to a DVI to HDMI cable (I am not concerned about sound right now) I am getting nothing but a blank screen on the TV. The cable is plugged into the HDMI1 porrt on the TV (but I have tried both). The iMac is recognising the TV but despite playing around with the settings on the preferences I am still unable to mirror the iMac display on the TV. All cables are brand new.
I have tried rebooting the iMac whilst in the HDMI setting on the TV but without success.

I have an oldish video camera and I don't seem to be able to download the movies from it. I have purchased a DV (Firewire) cable and have connected it but the iMac doesn't seem to recognise the camera. I can't see it as an option in iMovie.

I have just bought Sony DCR-HC38 and need to make sure that I have the correct cable to connect to my Mac. What I have is Apple thin FireWire 4 pin to 6 pin. Is this the correct cable?

how I could connect my mini dv camcorder to my mac and transfer the video to the computer. My camcorder only came with cord for playback on TV and the power cord, but nothing for the computer, especially a Mac. The manual refers to a Dv cable (hURL....) and says "When using a DV cable, be sure to use the optional JVC VC-VDV206U or VC-VDV204U DV cable depending on the type of DV connector (4 or 6 pins) on the PC". Currently running Mavericks with Thunderbolt and a FireWire 800 port.

View 12 Replies View RelatedRegistrations for software that require web based verifications are not being recognized by my iMac 27 2010 10.6.8Included in the list of software that I have been using for some over a year now is FCE 4, Bias Peak, and Sibelius, and iRealb from the app store. This is not a new issue although with the latest security update installed last week, the problem has been exacerbated.I had the problem last year but found that if I shutdown (not just restarted) and then powered up again all my registrations would be recognized. Now my workaround no longer seems to work. I actually went for about 5 months with no problems and then occasionally I would have the shutdown/power up until last week.

Lion does not recognized HP Scanner. Lion initially recognized the scanner and it worked perfectly for months. All of a sudden communications with the scanner stopped. I have checked the USB cable and it is working properly. I am using Bootcamp and when I boot in Windows the scanner and computer (iMac) work perfectly. I have downloaded, removed and reinstalled the HP software and update for Lion. When I go into System Preferences > Print/Scan, It sees all other printers and scanners including another HP printer scanner.

I formatted my 8GB USB stick on my Mac Snow Leopard and initially decided to try a '35-Pass Erase' but, after seeing that it would take approximately ten hours to complete this I cancelled it. I was then presented with: 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer'. Now when I insert my USB stick the computer does not recognise it apart from in 'Disk Utility' and I am unable to successfully format or partition the drive. I have also attempted to insert the USB in another USB slot on my computer to see if this would make any difference but I was presented with the same problem.

When I startup my computer I am prompted with the 'there isn't a keyboard connected' message. I'm using an apple wired USB keyboard, it was working perfectly fine yesterday and it appears to still be operational as I can charge my iPhone from it.
I've tried restarting, using different ports, removing other USB devices, but haven't had any luck. I can only access my guest account as my main is password protected.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have bought Lion from Applestore a few days ago. The installation ran fine, but, as a first approach, I was really disappointed when inserting in the side slot of my iMac an SD card Sandisk 4Gb from my Nikon D90: it was not detected, not shown in the desktop, nor in Disk Utility, no way to be shown in iPhoto or Nikon View NX2. By the way Nikon View had a very strange behaviour: clicking on a thumbnail it opened a new window showing again thumbnails which, when clicked, opened new window..Switched bac to Snow Leopard every thing ran fine again. Must I say not very encouraged to try Lion once again

I think it started from when i updated from 10.5.8 to 10.9. I had been having trouble reading any disks at all and sat down to try and fix it, when I looked more into it i noticed a few errors that kept popping up. When I insert any disk it reads for a bit and then just ejects. When i try and look for the disk utility there is no optical drive there.
When i open CDs and DVDs "You can’t open the “CDs & DVDs” preferences pane because it is not available to you at this time. To see this preferences pane, you may need to connect a device to your computer." In system information - disk burning it says "No disc burning device was found. If the device is external, make sure it’s connected and turned on." When inserting a movie DVD and opening DVD player "A valid DVD drive could not be found [-70012]

Hard drive recently failed. Replaced hard drive and used Time Machine to recreate system. Everything seems ok, but I cannot install software. It prompts for a password, as it always has, but the system is rejecting my password as invalid. This is the same password I have had for years (yes..i know). I cannot figure out how to reset it since it doesn't recognize the original password.
