View 13 RepliesMy imac is not recognizing any external dvd writer drive. I have imac with Core i7 and Mac OS 10.6.8. I have tried external dvd writers from Samsung and Amazon Essentials but the computer does not recognize any of them. Which Dvd writer is compatible?
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
How to find address for external cd/dvd writer in my 2008 iMac? The internal dvd/cd writer stopped working years ago. It was less expensive to buy an external writer than have the internal one fixed. Until now I have had no problems with it.
Now my Toast burner needs the internal address of my external writer and what it is or how to obtain it.
You know one of those long number things like 198.209.3.101 for instance.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10), 6 GB of RAM
I think it started from when i updated from 10.5.8 to 10.9. I had been having trouble reading any disks at all and sat down to try and fix it, when I looked more into it i noticed a few errors that kept popping up. When I insert any disk it reads for a bit and then just ejects. When i try and look for the disk utility there is no optical drive there.
When i open CDs and DVDs "You can’t open the “CDs & DVDs” preferences pane because it is not available to you at this time. To see this preferences pane, you may need to connect a device to your computer." In system information - disk burning it says "No disc burning device was found. If the device is external, make sure it’s connected and turned on." When inserting a movie DVD and opening DVD player "A valid DVD drive could not be found [-70012]
After inserting a DVD it didn't come out. so there is a dvd stuck in there now ... got iMac 27" early 2009 with 2.66ghz 8gb ram and 10.9.4osx
when using RDC my printer wont print in colour and defaults to a laser writer 8500

Some people suggest to zap the PRAM but I can't even get my computer to do that. It only chimes once and then stars up normally even though I am holding down the option/command/P/R keys.
My mic isn't picking up sound on my iMac, but it works on any other computer i use it on.I have multiple USB Microphones and they all have the same problem. They seemed to be working a couple days ago.

I had been considering getting an external Blu-Ray burner for backing up iPhoto, iTunes etc. - if I found a cheap one. but I cannot find any Blu-Ray writers that specify MAC compatibility. how can I know for sure?
View 6 Replies View RelatedHope I can ask this here. I installed Snow Leopard and now have copied a cd. I have a LaCie dvd copier with Light Scribe. I used the LS and it ran normal but when finished the disc had nothing on it. I went to the LaCie sight and nothing is mentioned about Snow Leopard.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLooking to buy a 2TB internal drive as well as a blu-ray reader/writer for my new mac pro. Im going to be replacing my factory installed optical drive with the blu ray drive. The two I like are linked below.
1. Does anyone have a bad experience with these?
2. Are there better drives out there for that cost? I saw the WD Green Caviar 2TB drive for only $99, how does that compare to the black caviar? [URL]
Im looking to add an internal Blu-Ray Writer to my 2009 Mac Pro so I can back up my Blu-Ray's and convert them to MKV. I know any SATA drive will work but Im looking for peoples experience of what drive to get. Im looking for the drive with the quickest read speed to make converting Blu-Ray to MKV as quick as possble.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought an external LG blu ray player and am trying to get it to work on my iMac. It only came with windows software, and having installed it on my windows partition, th best it will do is only play audio. I have snow leopard installed and there doesn't seem anything on it to play blu Ray discs. Is it a software or hardware problem? I have a radeon 1600 graphics card, is it too outdated now?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an imac G4 20" (Bowl) the DVD are not recognized anymore, nothing happens and they are ejected...But the CD works fine which suggest a soft problem more than a hard one (in a hard...the CD do not work)
I tried to reset DRAM and PMU....with no effect...
Does any one know a solution as Apple Support does not give any hint....except it is probably a soft problem....unfortunately I do not have anymore disk of my 10.3.9 version of OSX
I have been thru 2 external DVD burners Maxwell & LG with USB connections. Both worked OK until I used Lightscribe then they are not reconized. They show up in system profiler but dvd icon will not come up on desktop. I threw out light scribe, disconnected the drives and still will not work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a 128 gb usb 3.0 stick from "platinet". I could normally use it for some time but didn't need it during the last months. It was carefully transported now and then but mostly packed away, so it's possible but unlikely that it's damaged.
Yesterday I wanted to use it again and it got recognized on my iMac (OS X, 10.9.4, iMac mid 2007) for only some seconds, then the message appeared that it was not removed correctly. After that, the usb stick wasn't detected anymore on neither my iMac nor two MacBook Airs (also 10.9.4) that we've tried. I haven't tested it on a Windows computer yet.
Disk utility doesn't detect the device either but it can be found with "about my Mac" --> "system report" --> "USB"
I do not care so much about the data stored on it but I would like to get it to work again and not to throw it away.... Is there anything I can do?
Registrations for software that require web based verifications are not being recognized by my iMac 27 2010 10.6.8Included in the list of software that I have been using for some over a year now is FCE 4, Bias Peak, and Sibelius, and iRealb from the app store. This is not a new issue although with the latest security update installed last week, the problem has been exacerbated.I had the problem last year but found that if I shutdown (not just restarted) and then powered up again all my registrations would be recognized. Now my workaround no longer seems to work. I actually went for about 5 months with no problems and then occasionally I would have the shutdown/power up until last week.

Lion does not recognized HP Scanner. Lion initially recognized the scanner and it worked perfectly for months. All of a sudden communications with the scanner stopped. I have checked the USB cable and it is working properly. I am using Bootcamp and when I boot in Windows the scanner and computer (iMac) work perfectly. I have downloaded, removed and reinstalled the HP software and update for Lion. When I go into System Preferences > Print/Scan, It sees all other printers and scanners including another HP printer scanner.

I formatted my 8GB USB stick on my Mac Snow Leopard and initially decided to try a '35-Pass Erase' but, after seeing that it would take approximately ten hours to complete this I cancelled it. I was then presented with: 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer'. Now when I insert my USB stick the computer does not recognise it apart from in 'Disk Utility' and I am unable to successfully format or partition the drive. I have also attempted to insert the USB in another USB slot on my computer to see if this would make any difference but I was presented with the same problem.

When I startup my computer I am prompted with the 'there isn't a keyboard connected' message. I'm using an apple wired USB keyboard, it was working perfectly fine yesterday and it appears to still be operational as I can charge my iPhone from it.
I've tried restarting, using different ports, removing other USB devices, but haven't had any luck. I can only access my guest account as my main is password protected.

My old bluetooth keyboard eventually gave up and I have purchased a new one. I can't make it pair with my computer. How do I set it up? I bought the computer all set up, so I'm a complete idiot as to what to do.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSuddenly, my HP Photosmart 7525 isn't recognized by my (wife's) iMac. Ny iMac prints to it wirelessly just fine. I downloaded the printer driver (several time), loaded it and the iMac reverted to the HP Utility to finalized the process. The utility couldn't recognized the "device" to finish off the driver. Same thing when I loaded the Photosmart 6525 (my printer). The iMac apparently isn't loading the drivers. It worked fine a day or two ago, now, nada. WiFi works fine thru the AirPort/TimeCapsule module/router. The printer wifi works with other computers.

I own the NexStar MX Dual 3.5'' SATA/eSATA External Hard Drive Enclosure [URL] and I previously had it connected to my Power PC G4 Mac computer. In the enclosure, I have 2x500GB HDDs. One HDD is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and the other NTFS. In any event, I recently purchased an Intel Quad Core mac and now my computer only recognizes the Mac OS formatted drive and not the NTFS volume. I can see it on disk utility but I get an error
