Intel Mac :: Apple USB Keyboard Is Not Being Recognized?

Jun 8, 2012

When I startup my computer I am prompted with the 'there isn't a keyboard connected' message. I'm using an apple wired USB keyboard, it was working perfectly fine yesterday and it appears to still be operational as I can charge my iPhone from it.

I've tried restarting, using different ports, removing other USB devices, but haven't had any luck. I can only access my guest account as my main is password protected.

Hardware :: Wireless Apple Keyboard Not Being Recognized Correctly In Snow Leopard?

Nov 7, 2009

So I've concluded that the reason my wireless keyboard is not registering the correct keystrokes on my Macbook Pro is due to the fact that Snow Leopard sees it as the OLD white wireless keyboard instead of the new aluminum one. Is there any way to ensure that it sees the keyboard as the aluminum one rather than the white one every time I hook it up?

My main concern is that the function keys don't do the correct thing. I've tried remapping them (but can't control the volume ones) and have tried using the checkbox that requires a push of the fn key. Trouble is, since the white wireless keyboards don't have an fn key, it won't recognize it as such on my aluminum.

how to make the computer see the keyboard correctly?

Intel Mac :: New Apple Aluminum Keyboard 2012 Functions Do Not Match Icons On Keyboard

May 15, 2012

I just bought a new 2012 aluminum Wireless keyboard and the function keys do not work properly.  I am currently running OS 1.5.8. I would expect most keys to match the icons on the keyboard. I do not want to upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion. I have installed an aluminum keyboard upgrade 2.0 and this did not help.  I just want the the keyboard functions to match the icons on the keyboard.. Volume up...volume down...

A number of times now my Apple brand Wired Keyboard has droped out of control. Intel Mac :: Use A Wireless Keyboard With Apple Hardware Test?

Mar 15, 2012

I just bought my 27" iMac. It did not come with any install disks. I have tried everything to reach the Apple Hardware Test. Is it even possible to boot to it with a wireless keyboard? I hate to have to buy a new keyboard just to run one test. I can reach the Recovery HD, but the hardware test isn't there. (I know the computer is brand new, I just want to have the info when I will need it someday.)

Intel Mac :: Volume Keys Not Working On Apple 10-key Keyboard?

Jun 1, 2012

After the cat spilled a glass of water on my wireless keyboard I had to get a new one. I asked the folks at my local Apple store both over the phone and in person if the 10-key keyboard (non-wireless) they were going to sell me was compatible with Mac OS X version 10.5.8 (I think I'm Leopard) and they assured me it was. When I hit the volume keys, it initially used the assigned function of the F10, F11, and F12 keys (manipulated the windows and dashboard). I removed those key assignments through system preferences but now the volume keys do absolutely nothing. I tried looking for volume controls through the assignments but couldn't even find them to assign the F10, F11 and F12 keys to them.

Intel Mac :: Apple Wired Keyboard Allegedly Drawing Too Much Power

Mar 13, 2012

Whilst working on my iMac as per normal, I get this little window that pops up declaring that a USB decice is drawing too much power from my computer and as as a result, one or more of my USB devices has been disabled.

This is not an alien dialogue box to me, I have seen it many times. The problem this time is that, when I removed all my devices to see which one was causing the message to pop up, I discovered that it was my keyboard that was misbehaving.

When the message pops up it states that the offending device has been disabled. This cannot be the case however, as I am able to press enter to close it, and if the keyboard truly is the problem then I shouldn't be able to close it with enter because it would have been disabled... right?

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My keyboard is the standard wired + number pad one shipped free with new iMacs. It's not a custom one, it's apple stock through and through.

The baffling thing is that this has only just occured. In the year or two since I bought my iMac it's never been a problem.

Yes I have tried using a different USB slot, and no that doesn't fix it.

This box keeps popping up unless I disconnect my keyboard which of course is no way to use the computer, and I don't have a spare keyboard handy.

OS X :: Mouse Recognized As Keyboard On MacBook

Oct 25, 2009

Recently I bought a new mouse, I was overexcited and plugged it in, and there was a pop up saying there was a new keyboard but I clicked "Contine" this mouse doesn't work at all now, I thought it doesn't support mac at all! I searched about it on the net, they said that when they got that same pop up, they click "x" at the top left corner, you now, exits the pop up and got to use the mouse immediately. I tried it at my dad's laptop, got the same pop up but instead of clicking continue, I clicked "X" The mouse Works. So now I think this mouse is recognized as a keyboard on mine.

Hardware :: Keyboard Not Recognized After Logic Board Replacement

Dec 6, 2008

I have an ibook g3, 500 with os x 10.3. I bought it a long time ago in Germany, so it has a German keyboard. Yesterday I replaced the logic board, since my ibook showed signs of the well known logic board / graphics failure. That went well, graphics are working now. But, suddenly the hardware or the os does not recognize the keyboard anymore. I can not type in anything at the log in screen. No lights are working on the keypad as well. Funny thing is, that, when I hold down the apple key at the start up, this works and will get me into the start up options screen. So, I am not sure if it is a matter with the hardware or with the os.

Another thing I recognized: when I put the computer to sleep at the log in screen, the sleep led will light up, but then the ibook will immediately wake up. - This might be connected to the keyboard problem. I bought the logic board replacement in the US. Could this be the problem? Does this logic board probably have trouble with the German keyboard? Or, do you think the logic board replacement is broken as well? Would using an American keyboard help?

MacBook Pro :: Das Keyboard Not Recognized Running Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Apr 23, 2012

I've just got the Das Keyboard Ultimate Model S for my 2009 MacBook Pro, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I'm using the USB port to connect the keyboard, and the first time I plugged it in, the computer asked me to hit the first key to the right side of the left Shift key, which is pretty standard whenever a new keyboard is plugged into the Mac. It recognized it as a European ISO standard, which it is.

However since then my Mac no longer recognizes it as that kind of keyboard. When I go into the "Show Keyboard Viewer", the keyboard is recognized as a US Standard layout, and an Apple keyboard as well (meaning it doesn't "see" the numpad). You can see it's a US standard keyboard, as the Enter key is horizontal, and the left Shift key is wider. (the rest of the layout is Danish, which shouldn't matter in this case).

How do I tell my Mac that this isn't the correct keyboard? I've resetted the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM. I've tried to find and delete the file "com.apple.keyboardtype.plist" in my Library -> Preferences folder, but for some reason I don't have that file. I've plugged the keyboard into my iMac, running the same OS, and here the keyboard is recognized correctly, so it's not the keyboard that's faulty.

Hardware :: Apple Wireless Keyboard Vs. Apple Wireless Pro Keyboard?

Aug 19, 2010

I was just wondering what all of your thoughts were regarding these two keyboards. I know I can't get the Wireless Pro new anymore, however I can get it used for $20 from someone I know.

The new aluminum one however, I can get for about $40 used or just buy a new one for $70. I'm looking to buy a used one so it's pretty much the Wireless Pro for $20 vs the Wireless Aluminum for $40.

This will be going towards a set-up with my MBP which will be on an mstand, with an external monitor. I've already gotten the Magic Mouse so I'm trying to find a nice Bluetooth keyboard to compliment it.
