Sep 30, 2010I have 2 hard disks which I use for Time Machine, one for the main system, and one for my data. However, whenever I backup, I have to reconfigure what it backs up, and this is quite an annoyance as Time Machine is supposed to be a simple. Is there anyway I can save a configuration file for it that I can use for each drive?

Dec 12, 2010I looking to upgrade to 8GB on my 21" imac from late 2009. So I've decided owc [URL] might be a good choice. So from what I've seen I have two options, get x2 2GB sticks or one 4GB sticks. Is there a better option? The 4GB stick costs about 10 dollars more but would be more beneficial in the long run because I would be able to upgrade to 10 or 12 in the future sine there will be one more slot open if I wanted to, or but the 4GB stick in a new computer. Or is there a problem or performance issues with having 3 slots only occupied?

Nov 21, 2009I'm looking at the RAM configs on the new 27. I'm getting 8GB,and 4x2GB is alot cheaper. Is this because
a) Cheaper individual parts
b) not matched pairs?
If there is no performance difference, then I'm happy to get the 4x2GB. I'd only be upgrading to 16GB and thats a long way away.
Also, just being lazy, will any 3.5" HDD fit into the iMac? I was thinking of getting a different HD and replacing it myself. Shame there is no way of having two HDD's in there.

May 6, 2010Started the 24in iMac (The white version a few years old) up and there is a small window that comes up stating: 'IP Configuration. 10.1.1.4 in use by:15:af:e1:3e:f5 I click OK and carry so I can carry on with the password. I have 'Airport' on the system and my Macbook works fine so it's not the router.

Aug 9, 2010We'll be buying a 27" iMac soon, and am wondering if the basic off the shelf configuration will be ok. I suspect it will, but don't want to under buy if there are important factors I'm overlooking.
We do tend to keep tech for a long time, but are moving to Macs from PCs. Most activities will be fairly basic, with some Photoshop, MS Office. We will also want to be able to run Parallels to get to some legacy PC apps. We don't do exotic things like 3D rendering, After Effects, or processing of huge files. We might want to play movies on the iMac though.
For comparison, our most up to date current machine is a 3 year old Sony laptop with 2 GB ram, a Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz processor, Windows Vista Home Premium, and a 225 GB HD with 85 GB free.

IMac :: 2009 - Brightness Settings Won't Save?
Mar 11, 2009the monitor's default brightness setting is far too bright for my eyes, so the first thing I did was to open the System Preferences pane and reduce the brightness setting. That worked fine until I shut the computer down. On rebooting, the brightness returned to its default highest setting. On my older iMac G5, the brightness setting always stayed put. It isn't a huge problem since adjusting the brightness setting does work, but I don't want to have to adjust it every time I reboot my computer.
I spent two hours yesterday on the phone with Apple support trying to fix the problem, even going so far as to reinstall the system software with no success. The woman on the phone finally suggested that I return the Mac for a replacement.
Has anyone else here with a 2009 iMac experienced this problem? Is it possible that it's hardware related? If so, could this be the tip of the iceberg suggesting a potentially larger problem down the road? I would have guessed it might be a software glitch. (The new iMac has thrust me, finally, into Leopard; until last week I was using Tiger on my older G5.) I bought the 3-year Apple Care with it--since the new iMacs have only been out a week, should I wait until the next Leopard update and see if that fixes the problem?

Aug 29, 2014My iMac is starting to be a bit slow and I think it,s due to the fact that as a new iMac user, I downloaded lots of things I don't really need. I have all of my files on an external hard drive so I'm not scared of what I might loose if I reset my system.
Only thing I'm scared are my emails. Is there a way for my to save everything on an external drive, restore my system (which I don't know how to do) and once everything is back in order, I could simply import my emails and it would be as if nothing happened (well, for my emails at least)?

About a fortnight ago I went to open a personal file of which I call Favorites, I could not find it, I looked in my backup, Time Machine and it had disappeared there as well. Then a funny thing happened while I was trying to save a file, the lost file appeared in the file selection box. I clicked on it and it opened all the to the folders inside, but of course I could not open the folders in the save file. I then went looking again for the file but to no avail. how I might get this file back, it must be dodgeing around somewhere.

Aug 24, 2010I keep getting a pop up saying my start up disk is almost full, or that my iTunes library couldn't be saved, but I've still got a quarter of hard drive available on my new iMac. OmniDiskSweeper shows that most of the memory goes to my iTunes Media and Pictures/videos, but that shows just 61GB of hard drive used for Users. What could be using my hard drive space that doesn't show in OmniDiskSweeper?
