When I'm importing some file with optimized media, it is create in many different folders referent another jobs that haven't any relation with job about media that I'm importing. So, I need to manage it to save in the right location according to media subject.

I edited a multicam project that had three AVCHD clips as the source. The footage was optimized (although I never chose to do it –Final Cut did it on its own). The project is done now I want to send the Library overseas. I'd like to just put it on a thumb drive rather than have to buy and ship a hard drive. What happens if I delete the optimized media? Is there a way to switch it so FCPX plays back the original media, not the transcoded, and I'll let the next editor decide whether she wants to optimize?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI moved my iTunes media folder to an external hard drive to free up space on my iMac's hard drive. The new one is located on a hard drive attached to my Airport Express. Since then, I keep getting messages stating that certain items weren't copied to my iPhone because the originals couldn't be found. When I check, the iTunes media folder has reverted to the location on my iMac's main hard drive.
How can I prevent this? At best this is annoying, but it also is using up hard drive space unnecessarily. Is this behavior avoidable, or is it something that goes with the territory when you move your media folder to an external hard drive?

I recently changed the iTunes Media Folder default location to a different area on my drive. I waited a couple minutes and the files did not move. I was unaware you had to go into your settings and also select to consolodate files. Since the files didn't move I reselected my default location and kept trying to go back and forth a couple times. After letting it sit for a couple more minutes I noticed over 200 GB's of files were missing. I looked in each folder I tried to change the default Media Folder location to but they were not in either of them. I have also ran multiple system file recover programs and been unable to find them.

When sharing, if we have the project to work with proxies (assuming I transcoded clips in both the formats) is better to change it before or whatever is my setting the render quality depends on setting in my share options.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can no longer import P2 footage. I get the stop sign and error: no data.In the import window I can play the clip and everything is fine, but when I add to the clip to the import queue it just times out.
Any thoughts? Is it somehow related to Quicktime being updated by Snow Leopard?

Equipment: Mac Mini (Early 2009), Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Lion. I started noticing my Mac Mini was having trouble reconnecting my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, slow processing (spinning pinwheel of death), and programs freezing. I did a recovery within Lion from the recovery drive and it seemed to work for a week or so. It started acting up again. So, I decided to erase the HD and reinstall Lion. I basically use the Mac Mini as a server for all my iTunes content.
My iTunes default save location is to my Drobo storage unit. Now that I have reinstalled Lion, I am looking for the easiest, most convenient, and safest way to change the default save location in iTunes and then importing the media. It would be nice if it was possible to just simply change the default save location to the folder I previously had all my media saved in and it would just magically appear in iTunes. Everything was organized perfectly, which took hours of time and attention to details.

I have a macbook pro with a 150g HD and only 30g remaining. I'd like to know how you find where all this mass is located? From my own findings it would seem that I have at least 43g of iTunes content found C Stride - Music - iTunes I don't fully understand why i have this and indeed if i can delete it as I thought i had all my iTunes content on an external so not to tie up my lap top HD (500g with 230g of iTunes content). But, when I look in preferences on iTunes the media location folder is no longer displaying anything?? It used to.
1. Can I get rid of the 43g of content on my HD?
2. Why is no media location displaying in iTunes?
3. How else can I see what is using 120g on my HD?
I am still pretty new to Mac and OSX and i had a question about itunes.
Ok, So if i add say 1 album and 1 Movie. Lets say the the album is in My Music folder and the Movie is in My Movies folder.
Now if i go to add to library in iTunes and add them then i am done. If i go and delete the 2 files from the folders i notice that the album and movie is still in itunes and still playable? How is that if i deleted them from the folders on my Mac?
Does iTunes actually COPY the movie and music i add to its own folder? so that way if i do delete it from my mac, its still in a iTunes folder somewhere?
Like with windows, WMP copies the location of that media, So if i add a album and later delete it from my PC and go and try to play it in WMP, it will say NOT FOUND or just no longer show it.
Reason i ask this is because i do not want to have double of everything on my HD and take up more space then i should...
My iTunes media folder location is set to my iTunes media folder, which is stored on my external hard drive connected to my network via aiport extreme router. The problem is everytime I turn my mac off and back on my iTunes reverts the location back to my itunes media folder on my mac and I have to manually set it back to my itunes media folder on my external hard drive. I'm used to working on a PC. When I open a file on a PC and then do a 'save-as', the PC always saves the new file in the same folder as the original. This seems so obvious, and 99% of the time is exactly what you want. On the other odd occasions it's simple to change the path.
But it doesn't happen on a Mac. MAC saves the file to wherever you last did a 'save-as'. Quite often I forget to check where this is and change it. I then have to do a 'Search' in 'Finder' to look for it. This gives me another problem, because 'Search' goes off hunting before you've even finished typing the name of the file - and either seems to find hundreds of unrelated items, or zilch! The 'help' on search doesn't help. The last time this happened to me, I could only find the file by searching manually in each of the places I thought it might be - and never managed to find it using the 'Search' facility.
I used to find 'Default Folder X' a help in regard to fixing the 'save-as' location, but the current version working in conjunction Snow Leopard, doesn't seem to be so effective.
When I try to save a file in TextEdit or Pages after a pause between last save, it fails due to that error. "Pages could not save example.pages because its location could not be determined." This just started recently, and is annoying.

I have just upgraded to 10.1.3 and Final Cut Pro still cannot update ALL my projects and events that are in the Old Final Cut Projects and Events on my 2T My Passport external HD.
I get a message that this location - My Passport - is not a valid and that I should choose another SAN location or folder.
I'm at a loss here. I have always been able to use the external HD when using Final Cut Pro.
I have watched Final Cut Pro how-to-update videos, have searched these discussions but to no avail.
Using FCP X 10.1.2.
After I create Compound Clip, I open the Inspector Window to see the location of where this clip is residing. But it just states (in the Inspector Window) under Location is (Multiple Files).
Is the CC just acting as a pointer to the files that I created the CC with ... or am I just not looking at the correct location / information?
I want to take a screenshot, (using the standard shortcuts, command shift 3) which saves it to desktop. I could not even get to the Startup Manager ('opt' at boot) or boot straight to the disc ('C').Now i'm in a position where no matter what i do, the system boots to the linux disc. Is there any way to add files to iTunes from the External without actually transferring them into the iTunes media folder - and without having to change the "copy to iTunes Folder" setting in preferences back and forth as I do want certain media such as songs to be moved into my iTunes media folder? In previous versions of Mac OS X there used to be a keyboard shortcut that would accomplish this. If you held down (either control or option) can't remember which it would import the media into iTunes but not transfer it to iTunes media folder. It would sort of import a "shortcut" to the desired media into your iTunes library.

As I use the web I often use shift + apple + 3 or 4 to take screen captures of things I like and want to remember.
This saves the file to the desktop. Is there a way to change the save location?
Also I've been then adding the clippings to a PS file but this is getting to time consuming and dull to manage.
Is there a better option?
I do really like the way I dont have to use another application to take the screen shot but there is no management...
Image Capture in Snow Leopard defaults to saving to the Pictures folder, but I want to change it to the Desktop instead. If I simply change it in the app, close it, and open it again, it reverts back to the Pictures folder.

The reason I ask is because when I went to export some pictures it didnt save any of this information whatsoever and with 4000 photos thats a lot of work to go add all that information back to. Running FCP X 10.1.2 ... I wanted to verify a few things with the community about media mgmt that the white paper really doesn't explain to well. My archiving procedure is as follows:
I import media to an Event to offload footage from camera/card. I then close FCP X, open the finder and open the library and "show package contents" and then pick the original media folder. I then copy that folder to another offsite drive I have dated by year -> folder.
Example: 2014 - Footage from Colorado. (I do this to always store my original media outside any project I'm working on for future reference. This is ok, correct? Is there a better way?)
Second, I learned the other day that if I want to archive/backup libraries or even clean up the library,it is good practice to remove all rendered/transcoded media files. It is pretty simple from the "file" menu to do this. Question, if I just removed the rendered media, how long does it take again before FCP X background tasks starts working / rendering media again? Do I stop this somehow so I have time to backup the library? I thought this process was automated after a few seconds?

The first thing I do after importing my media is I sync the secondary audio with the video clips.
The audio clips are usually named Zoom... or Tascam... and the video is typically named MVI... or something else.
Going back and forth between the correct take of the audio and the correct take of the video requires that I scroll up and down the list. It would be great if you could split the view into two separate lists and that way you could easily see both while syncing.
