I have an iMac that I connect to my Vizio using the miniDVI output on my mac. My question is, I have direct.v. is there a "hopefully" free way to capture t.v. from my direct.v./Vizio and save it on my iMac. Just to edit stuff for fun?

This saves the file to the desktop. Is there a way to change the save location?
Also I've been then adding the clippings to a PS file but this is getting to time consuming and dull to manage.
Is there a better option?
I do really like the way I dont have to use another application to take the screen shot but there is no management...
Image Capture in Snow Leopard defaults to saving to the Pictures folder, but I want to change it to the Desktop instead. If I simply change it in the app, close it, and open it again, it reverts back to the Pictures folder.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to capture about 30 hours of DV tapes from my camcorder using Final Cut Express on my new iMac and was hoping to find the optimum configuration for doing so.
I'm using the Firewire port to connect to the camcorder. So then the question is: which hard disk to use for the capture scratch? Since the iMac has only one Firewire port, and that's used for the camcorder, the only choices are the internal Serial ATA 7200 rpm drive and an external drive connected via USB 2.0.
I wanted to avoid using the internal drive because it's the system drive and especially to avoid the significant internal heat build-up, but when I connect a 7200 rpm Seagate FreeAgent disk via USB, I'm consistently getting dropped frames.
So I've resorted to using the internal drive for now, and when I'm done, I may copy/move them off to the external drive, but I still would prefer to capture directly to the external drive (without the dropped frames though).

i was trying to get a screen capture of an issue with itunes when previewing tv shows/movies..etc but it appears you can no longer take screen caps of iTunes movies/tv shows (well ones you didnt import yourself).... or is there a work around?

I started up again and attached another screen, the image was normal on both screens. But alone the iMac still starts up with the pixelated screen.

the monitor's default brightness setting is far too bright for my eyes, so the first thing I did was to open the System Preferences pane and reduce the brightness setting. That worked fine until I shut the computer down. On rebooting, the brightness returned to its default highest setting. On my older iMac G5, the brightness setting always stayed put. It isn't a huge problem since adjusting the brightness setting does work, but I don't want to have to adjust it every time I reboot my computer.
I spent two hours yesterday on the phone with Apple support trying to fix the problem, even going so far as to reinstall the system software with no success. The woman on the phone finally suggested that I return the Mac for a replacement.
Has anyone else here with a 2009 iMac experienced this problem? Is it possible that it's hardware related? If so, could this be the tip of the iceberg suggesting a potentially larger problem down the road? I would have guessed it might be a software glitch. (The new iMac has thrust me, finally, into Leopard; until last week I was using Tiger on my older G5.) I bought the 3-year Apple Care with it--since the new iMacs have only been out a week, should I wait until the next Leopard update and see if that fixes the problem?

Just bought a new iMac 10.7.4 and when I went to back up the data it said that it was no longer supported. I have my old iMac still and I can back it up there but want to sell the old one. My iMac is starting to be a bit slow and I think it,s due to the fact that as a new iMac user, I downloaded lots of things I don't really need. I have all of my files on an external hard drive so I'm not scared of what I might loose if I reset my system.
Only thing I'm scared are my emails. Is there a way for my to save everything on an external drive, restore my system (which I don't know how to do) and once everything is back in order, I could simply import my emails and it would be as if nothing happened (well, for my emails at least)?

But I have another problem with a large important file that has gone missing. About a fortnight ago I went to open a personal file of which I call Favorites, I could not find it, I looked in my backup, Time Machine and it had disappeared there as well. Then a funny thing happened while I was trying to save a file, the lost file appeared in the file selection box. I clicked on it and it opened all the to the folders inside, but of course I could not open the folders in the save file. I then went looking again for the file but to no avail. how I might get this file back, it must be dodgeing around somewhere.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden, every time I reboot, my screen's brightness is all the way up. So, I go to 'Preferences' and bring it down to only happen again the next time I reboot. Not a terrible problem, I hope, but not sure why the settings of this doesn't remain as I left it last. OmniDiskSweeper shows that most of the memory goes to my iTunes Media and Pictures/videos, but that shows just 61GB of hard drive used for Users. What could be using my hard drive space that doesn't show in OmniDiskSweeper?
