Hardware :: Unable To Get Airport Connectivity
Nov 6, 2009
This was AT&T's recommendation after I complained about spotty wifi access to my g4 powerbook. I'm using a 2wire 2701HGB and am getting the worst connection via airport.
The wireless connection works fine on my HP dv2 -1010ea and the g4 works fine in other locations, (coffee shop, other houses with wifi, hotels, etc.) but not at home. I've tried all manner of WEP, WPA 2, and $password shenanigans, but it the airport signal is woefully unreliable.

A month ago, I started to get kicked off my wireless network seemingly random. I have eight devices on the network, but only my MacBook Pro was affected. I use an Airport Extreme base station - the UFO-looking one from about 2006. This wasn't regular "can't find the network", greyed-out Airport icon kicked off - the icon became an outline and no matter what I tried, only a restart would get me back on (often to be kicked off again within minutes). Again, I have six devices on the network - my wife is in the same room, feet away, and her 2003 iBook stays on the network with no troubles. A week after I started having this problem, I noticed my battery was no longer holding a charge. I just bought a new one. My question: I didn't initially think there might be a connection between the two issues - dying battery and Airport connectivity - but now that I've had the new battery working for a day, I haven't been kicked off the network. Could the bad battery have caused the Airport to totally disconnect?

I just installed the Airport extreme wireless card on my emac, but I have run into some problems:
1)after installing the card, the mac took a very long time to start up, I tested to make sure it was the card: everytime I started it up without the card, it did the normal thing, but with the card, it took a long time
2)after finally starting up, nowhere can i find where/how to configure the wireless. When I go to configure the network, it has all options, but the airport card option is not usable.

My router is a Linksys WRT54GS (neutered, version 6) which is running firmware version 1.52.7; this router is less than 25 feet away, across the hallway, with minimal physical obstruction, and I have taken off all security measures on said network. iStumbler has found no signal interference (that I can interpret). Two Windows PCs have been able to keep a solid signal over the course of the last three days, but the MacBook's signal drops after about 10 to 15 minutes.

When I am on my wireless network at home, I cannot print to my printer (via AirPort). When I go to the router and connect with ethernet cable, the AirPort magically detects itself in seconds.I have Windows 7 computers running bonjour and they can print just fine using AirPort.I was able to print fine wirelessly to the AirPort but today it's not working.

I have my mac connected to my wireless network. For the last two weeks, these are the things I have noticed.
- The connection to the router is lost prompting me to enter the security key
- Connection to websites takes 5 to 6 tries even though the mac is connected to the network and I have full signal.
All of these problems are solve by turning the AirPort on and off and it will works correctly.
My question is if the problem is with the mac wifi connection or my network and router. The router is a linksys router WRT160N.

I have a iMac using 10.5.8. and a laptop using 10.4. I don't print all the time (once or twice a month for invoicing) so I'm not sure when my printing failed. Had to be sometime after my Airport Extreme or OS updated in the last month. My printer is a Canon Pixma 780. I'm unable to print from either computer now. I've updated printfab, tried uninstalling, reinstalling printer, unplugged printer from my Airport Extreme, restarted computer and printer. I'm at a complete loss.

Here is the situation:
I moved in with family who have a PC and router (Netgear) through charter (cable provider).
However I've had an imac g3 450MHz for the past 8 years and it still works fine..except..
The OS is 10.4, and I seem to have a problem connecting to internet with wireless. Apparently somehow the original airport software was deleted. I did purchase an airport card and adapter and successfully installed that.
However my problem is getting airport software back on my Imac. I tried installing Airport 3.1 however my computer insists its already installed so it won't install the airport software. But a search confirms that there is no airport any longer on my Imac.
In any case, I'm not able to get on the internet.

I recently took a plunge and went for a gigabit fiberoptic line. However, my speeds are extremely slow. I am currently living in Japan and was provided with an NEC router. To this I've connected an Airport Express "N". I've set this up as my WDS main and I have another Airport Express "b/g" and this is setup as my WDS remote.
I don't have the latest equipment...running on wifi I have a PowerBook G4 and on Speedtest this is getting only 1mb/s or so. I have a PC connected directly to the router and this only gets about 6mb/s. It's a Compaq D510 (so, not the latest and greatest, but not ancient).

On my new white unibody MacBook I have an Airport issue that always occurs after I wake the MacBook from sleep. I'm wondering if any of you have a similar issue and/or might not how to solve it.
Basically, when I wake the MacBook from sleep, it connects to my wireless network (and to whichever network I happen to be using at the time). A few seconds later, it will drop the connection, an exclamation mark will appear (!) on top of the Airport icon on the menu bar, and when I click on the icon I see "Alert: No Internet Connection."
Then, if I just sit and wait, eventually Airport will connect to the network. But I have to wait -- selecting the network from the available list or turning Airport off and on doesn't help. And sometimes waiting isn't enough -- I sometimes have to go to "Create Network ..." and start all over to get a connection.
I've upgraded to 10.6.2 and the issue persists.

The Airport Extreme has been a joy to setup and use but have made no progress on setting up a shared disk.
I just picked up an early 2009 Airport Extreme and wanted to set up the disk through the USB port. When in Airport Utility, I can see the drive connected under the "Disks" tab--but this is as far as I can get setting it up. None of my PCs can see this drive at this stage--but the Airport Extreme obviously knows there's a drive connected.

I'm in Afghanistan and our internet service consists of a large dish, connected to a series of switches, with lan cables that terminate in individual rooms. Normal service includes plugging in the cable to your machine, where you get a login screen, allowing you to purchase internet / log in.
When I try to plug instead into my AirPort Express, I can only get the internet to work when I place it in bridge mode. I'd like to get it to assign IP addresses to whatever I add to my network so that I can use both my MBP and my iPhone wirelessly. However, when I try to use it as a DHCP device, I can never get any device to find a web page, etc.

I have just bought a AEBS and all works on a 2.4Ghz network. I think I have set it up correctly. I can see my wireless network with 5Ghz in brackets in my Airport menu but I can't connect to it, just times out. I have read this seems to be a firmware issue for the AEBS on 7.5
I can't see in Airport Utility to set the Radio mode to 'N' only, I only have 2 options as shown in the attached.

I currently use a Powerbook, and I access the internet though our AirPort Extreme router. Recently, for some reason, although I am on the right network, and signal strength is full - I am unable to connect to the internet! I've called my provider, and everything is fine on their end according to their systems. I've tried power cycling, and checking my settings, and everything SEEMS to be ok.

Since it doesn't support WPA encryption, its more or less useless to me. I pulled out the Airport card (its a snow model), but now i'm left wondering what to do with the rest of it. The enclosure is so cool looking, I would feel bad to just throw it away.

Has ANYONE had the following problem: Original titanium PowerBook G4, fully up-to-date AirPort software and Mac OS X 10.4.8, which will not communicate with a new AirPort Express wireless router in WPA Personal (neither WPA nor WPA2), but which WILL communicate quite happily with any wireless router, anywhere, including aforementioned nice new AirPort, in WEP? Access control is NOT active.

I have noticed that about once a day at around 9pm or so my network goes out for 45 seconds to a minute and then comes back on.
I know this is weird and maybe its something we are doing but has anyone ever heard of this issue?
Is there a fix for it?

I'm having a problem when I connect my 42" Plasma HD to my mid 2009 Mac Mini, the mini cannot connect to the internet via Airport. I have a 20'' Dell display connected to the Display port and the Plasma connected to the mini-DVI port and I'm running snow leopard. When I disconnect the plasma from the min-DVI port all goes back to normal and there is no Airport issue.

So i just bought my AEBS and have been reading this forum regarding the problems that may arise and how it can be solved.
But being me, I just have to try it myself before experiencing what other AEBS users have gone through - inability to use hard disks plugged into the AEBS and being able ti read and write into it from both PC and Macs.
I wanna ask is this a possible solution to all these problems:
Use a USB hub and plug in both an NTFS-formatted ext hard disk and a Mac OS Extended (Journaled)-formatted one into the AEBS.
Install Macdrive in the PC so that it can access the Mac OS Extended (Journaled)-formatted hard disk, and the NTFS one as well.
Install NTFS 3G in Mac so that it can access the NTFS-formatted hard disk, and the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) too.
This is what I thought of theoratically, i wanna know if anyone has tried this method. if everything else fails, i'm gonna sell my AEBS away. 'cause I wanna use the AEBS like cloud computing or a wireless dropbox for my home.
