I cant seem to find the airport extreme setup assistant on my new early 08 mac pro.
I just brought this machine on ebay and it has a lot of pro applications so I decided against a re-install but it seems to be missing the airport setup assistant.
I bought an Airport Extreme and am trying to set it up. I installed Airport Utility and have my Airport turned on. The problem I'm having is that Airport Utility is saying it can't find any wireless devices. I have the Airport's Internet WAN port connected to my wall's ethernet port and the Airport's status light is solid green. What I want to do is get a wireless signal from the ethernet port on my wall. Everything in the set up guide and everything I find online has to do with setting the Airport up with a DSL or Cable Modem.

When I run Airport Utility, I can see the base station in the left panel, but both options to either run manual setup or "easy" setup give me the same error. Says that it cannot connect to the airport, error -4. Tried everything I could think of including multiple re-installs, wireless and wired, and disabling firewalls/antivirus.
I just purchased an Airport Extreme 802.11a/b/g/n to use as my home wifi router. I have two Airport Expresses 802.11b/g. I want to use one for Airtunes to my stereo and another for wireless printing.

For the past two years, I have been attaching my Airport Express to the LAN and sharing an internet connection thus providing wireless access in my office. Fast forward to today, and I've acquired an Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS), but I've been unable to get the AEBS to function like the Express. The AEBS doesn't seem to be able to acquire a usable IP number from the router. The IP numbers all seem to be provided by the AEBS rather that the DNS server from the LAN.

Well, it arrived today, but alas it seems that I need a modem and Ethernet cord! Now, in my defense, I've been using a router that is both a modem and a router for years -- and it connected straight to the cable jack, so I didn't know that most routers needed a separate modem unit and Ethernet cord! I need an ethernet cord to connect the router and modem, right? The Modem/Router I've been using is called the SBG900 Wireless Surfboard Gateway. In my experience, the speeds have been dismal, but I should be able to use this as my modem -- right? Will it be slower than if I bought a separate modem? Does the modem even effect the speed of your internet or is that just the router?
I'm traveling for the next 3 months overseas and I wanted to setup some sort of VPN that would allow me to access my home macs over the internet from my Macbook Pro. I've searched for some setup instructions over the net and can't find anything. If someone can help me out with step by step instructions I'd appreciate it. I have and Airport Extreme with a couple of MacPros and external hard drives attached. Having access to them while away will keep me in touch with things I may need at home while away. I'm running Leopard 10.5 on all machines.

I have bought a Mac Mini, iPhone and soon I will get an 27" iMac and Airport Extreme Station. So I have been thinking, what is the best set up for all this? At this point I have "problems" with my iTunes. My music library is on my windows PC and a NAS Harddrive as backkuo.
So when I want to listen to the music on my Mac Mini I can see the library, but not the playlists and covers that I have on my WIndows PC. Basically, what I want, once I get the 100% apple set up, is flawless integration og everything. Meaning same music library and playlist on both macs, eyeTV recordings and live streamin on both if possible and as much interactions with my iPhone as possible. Are there posts or web pages out there that cover this topic and descripe how the setup could be?
I have a Macbook (white unibody) running Snow Leopard. I have a personal wireless network using an Airport Extreme and I have an external hard drive (WD) connected to the Airport Extreme. I use this hard drive for my Time Machine Back ups.
I just got back from a trip and tried to back up my time machine. I got the error that the back up disk is not available. I then tried to open the airport utilities.
It tells me that "Airport Utilities is unable to find any Airport Wireless devices". I find this doubly strange because I have no problem connecting to the internet on this wireless network which supposedly does not exist.
I just bought my parents, who live in Korea, an airport extreme and an iPad. Now, the problem is that my ipod touch 2g and my other pc can not access the private network even if I enter the correct password for the private network. Any suggestions?

View 18 Replies View RelatedTo date I've used an airport express as a wireless router for my macbook and macbook pro. Both have been manually backed up routinely on external hard drives. I use the macbook as my main media center/media storage and the hard drive is starting is nearly full. I'd like to set up a system where I move my media to an external hard drive and also automate the backup of the mb, mbp, and external hard drive. Would time capsule be the best approach for this and will it backup an external hard drive tied to its usb port. Alternatively, could I tie 2 external hard drives through a usb hub into airport extreme, using one for backing up the laptops and the other external drive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro's Airport Extreme card usually recognizes ~15 wireless signals (I live in an apartment building), now it picks up none.
If I try to manually access my own wireless network (which works fine for my flatmates' computers), it says "There was an error joining the AirPort network". It doesnt seem to care that the network normally has a password, it just gets an error.

I have an airport extreme that was working perfectly until a few months ago when I started having problems going to a web site [URL] that I have visited numerous times in the past. I get the following error message: Safari can�t open the page [URL] because it can�t find the server �golfsmith. When I disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AEBS and connect it directly to the computer I am able to open this site. My Macbook Pro responds the same way wirelessly and when I go to another friends house I can connect to that site with my MBP. BTW my friends cannot connect to that site via my AEBS but can via their home router
I have reset the AEBS to factory defaults several times, restarted my Comcast cable modem then AEBS then iMac in the order specified. I have also tried changing my DNS settings to both opendns and DNS Advantage but I have the same results with both.
I also have a dashboard item that mysteriously stopped checking local gas prices and may be related to the problem. Also I suspect that sometimes when I click on a link in a search engine and get that message is the AEBS problem again.
My router has died and I need to buy a new one. I'm thinking about the airport extreme base station but considering apple's update cycle, I'm worried it may be due for an update soon. Any news/rumors on this?

Which Model #/Part # card would I need and where can I find them? I called my local Apple store and they told me that they could install it for me but they aren't allowed to order the part...? Weird. Also, while I'm asking, I'm interested in upgrading my graphics card. I read somewhere that the ATI Radeon HD 3870 will work. Is there anything else you guys could recommend? Had to be sometime after my Airport Extreme or OS updated in the last month. My printer is a Canon Pixma 780. I'm unable to print from either computer now. I've updated printfab, tried uninstalling, reinstalling printer, unplugged printer from my Airport Extreme, restarted computer and printer. I'm at a complete loss.

i never had this problem with old airport, it only seems to be with extreme although the card was connecting to the network from my g5 was basically inches away from it, the Emac is on the floor about 2ft away i goto connect and it just keeps timing out, i've made sure the wpa key is correct and even tried manually entering the network config details.
The Airport Extreme has been a joy to setup and use but have made no progress on setting up a shared disk.
I just picked up an early 2009 Airport Extreme and wanted to set up the disk through the USB port. When in Airport Utility, I can see the drive connected under the "Disks" tab--but this is as far as I can get setting it up. None of my PCs can see this drive at this stage--but the Airport Extreme obviously knows there's a drive connected.
I saw the excellent sticky on sharing files with a PC - I need some help even more basic - I have an Imac running 10.5.7 and my daughter has a new Win Laptop - I have tried setting up a network and sharing my internet connection and it looks like all of the correct things have been done but the laptop can not connect to the Mac - it can see it fine but can't hookup -

Recently, for some reason, although I am on the right network, and signal strength is full - I am unable to connect to the internet! I've called my provider, and everything is fine on their end according to their systems. I've tried power cycling, and checking my settings, and everything SEEMS to be ok.

I know this is weird and maybe its something we are doing but has anyone ever heard of this issue?
