Just purchased myself a magic mouse, adjusted the slow tracking speed MagicPrefs, a really nice tool over all but it doesn't allow me to get rid of the varying tracking speed. I could probably get used to it in the end but it is very annoying and would prefer not to use it. Does anybody know of a tool which allows for constant tracking speed?

Have an Extreme base stations and express repeater connected to my DSL services. On my primary iMac connected via ethernet I get 5.25MBps speed. The speed on this computer is always constant. On the remote MacPro I get anywhere from 1.5MBps to 5MPps speed within a half hour of testing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOpen a Terminal Window and type the following: defaults write -g com.apple.mouse.scaling 5.0. "5.0" being the number designating the speed. Change that number to whatever you like. I've got my Magic Mouse set to 150 or so. This does not change the acceleration, just the scaling. Altering the setting via the preferences pane overrides the Terminal command. Log out and back in to activate. For a more complete solution, get USB Overdrive.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just opened my brand new 2009 24inch IMac! The Mouse pointer speed is very very slow. I adjusted the tracking speed to the fastest possible, but this is still under par. I typed my question in google and it directed me to download a program called "Mouse Zoom" which was downloaded onto my... "Desktop." I didn't click the icon to run it because I am afraid of a virus. Is "Mouse Zoom" safe to click on? Will it fix the problem, or is there an alternative to this issue? I cant imagine something so nice being crippled by something as simple as mouse speed.

I can set the preference again but as soon as I shut down or restart it's right back to being super-sensitive. At first I thought it was interference from my other (bluetooth) mouse. But I disconnected it and am still having the issue.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever i open an application both of the fans go to 6000+ rpm in a couple minutes give or take.Strangely web browsing doesn't cause this speed but if a youtube video is played it gets up there fast.Applications such as quicktime and logic gets up there no matter what is played.I have fan control and smcfancontrol, 40GB free, software updated, tried the reset thing (turn off, hold power button, boot), cleared printing operations.The only thing smcfancontrol does for me is it slows down the fans quicker whenever i close all my applications.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently upgraded to SL and have a few issues. I am still kinda new to OSX even though I've had an iMac for a a few years. I mainly was using Windows 7 on Bootcamp, but now want to really get to know OSX.
First, in Leopard there were icons on the desktop for my MAC hard drive and my Windows hard drive. But after installing SL they aren't on there. I liked the idea of having them on the desktop for quick access. Can someone let me know how to get them back on the desktop?
Second I have a Razer DeathAdder mouse I use. I have the latest OSX drivers installed. This problem I've had with Leopard and Snow Leopard is that even though I've set the tracking speed under System Preferences, after rebooting the tracking goes all the way back to down the the lowest setting. I've tried setting it in the DeathAdder's software and in the regular preferences in OSX but after reboot it always goes back down. It is annoying cause it tracks way to slow and I have to manually up it a few notches whenever I boot up.
Dual 2ghz Power PC G5 with Leopard 10.5.8Recently had it in for a repair, not with Apple (that expired a longggg time ago) because it would only turn on intermittently. They fixed this problem, citing bad components and also replaced the broken optical drive. However when they gave it back to me it was incredibly loud, they stated that they had to reconnect a fan and that was probably what caused the power problem in the first place. I'm pretty sure though that I had disconnected it unwittingly about a week after the power problem started when I opened it up to change the battery... believing that may be the problem at the time.

I let it run for awhile and it was still constantly loud. Then I tried rebooting twice and still the same problem. My room is only around mid 60F. Is there some function I'm supposed to turn off? Or did I get a lemon macbook?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI only started noticing my fan running a bit on the fast side this evening after installing the new Safari 4.0.5 update. I looked at iStat Menus for temp and CPU. And I was seeing about 190 degrees F for CPU temp with lid closed running ext display. Also there was a constant usage of the cpu (about 30% User and 20% System). There's not one particular process I can see in Activity Monitor that acting out of the ordinary and using a lot of CPU. Just stuff like coreservicesd, WindowServer, launchd that are shuffling around and using about 1-4% of CPU.I ran repair disk permissions and verify disk. Verify Disk found errors and said I need to repair my Macintosh HD, which I have now done successfully.

The magic mouse somehow takes into account the velocity? Like if you move it the same distance on your desk, depending on how fast you did that action, the mouse arrow moves a farther distance. Does that make sense? I don't want that. I don't know if you can change that, but my old mouse worked the other way, where if you moved a certain distance on the desk, the mouse arrow would travel the same distance, no matter what speed you move your physical mouse mouse at.
Any one have any ideas or know what I'm talking about? Other than that, I like the magic mouse, otherwise I think I might just switch back.
On the iMac I have 2 external firewire drives, both FireWire 800, always on and connected. One (LaCie Big Disk Extreme+; 1TB) is used for Time Machine and full backups (Super Duper!) and the other ( WD External HDD Button & Lights; 500GB) contains my Parallels virtual machines. Both of these drives are excluded from Spotlight indexing (listed in the Privacy section).
Frequently disk or even network activity will hang waiting for one or the other of these drives to spin up and become ready. For some reason that most often seems to the LaCie drive. This is annoying, but I have learned to live with it.
Last Friday my mbp was sent out for repair by the apple store. And now I know that I can look at the repair status but it says return pending. It's getting shipped here to my house how do I get a tracking number so i know where it is?

MacBook Pro 13"- I have recently been rather clumsy and spilt 'Super Super Glue' near my tracking pad (2 weeks ago). The pad is now stuck down and I cannot use it to select (I am currently using a separate mouse.Also (just today) I have come to realise that my 'F6' (to light up the keyboard) is not working and has left my keyboard in darkness. Yet 15 minutes later my Mac decided to work again. How much is this going to cost me?!

I run both Leopard and Snow Leopard on Macs along with Windows using BootCamp. I have tried the Magic Mouse, Logitech, and Microsoft mice and they all track slow while using the Mac OS. The Logitech and Microsoft mice track fine with Windows. Tracking speed is turned up to the max with the Mac OS. I understand that third party software such as better touch tool and others (don't recall the names). Will they help and are they safe downloads? Do you suggest a particular one?

I have both loaded operating systems on my new MP and it just feels like the mouse tracks better in Windows... like it's just snappier as if it had a higher refresh or sampling rate. I've actually always noticed this going back and forth between Macs and PCs for years -- the mouse just works better in Windows -- maybe Windows has better mouse drivers or something because it just feels more responsive. I should try an old ball mouse to see if it's the optical factor. My mouse on the Mac just feels ever so slightly choppy. Maybe I need one of those special optical mouse pads(?)

While using the tracking pad and simply scrolling down a menu or passing over icons, it will be as if I've clicked on the mouse button and I'm thrown into unwanted pages. Further, I can tap on the tracking pad and it will likewise act as a mouse button and I can access anything I would ordinarily use the mouse button for.
Clearly, this is something I'm not happy about. Before I go yelling and screaming back to the seller and make threats, is there something I can do as far as a fix on this?
Disturbed to see the result of a macscan, 17 tracking cookies on my machine. Are these tracking cookies dangerous, what are they doing there anyway and who put them there. Finally should I be considering installing an antivirus and if so what. I always thought macs were immune to invasions, or are the time a changing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAbout a month back, I purchased a wireless mighty mouse and tried using it with my 2009 Mac Pro. The lag and tracking were terrible, making it unusable. When connected to my MacBook Air (on the same desk) it worked flawlessly. I assumed at the time there was a problem with the bluetooth on my Mac Pro so I've been meaning to get Apple Support on the case but just haven't got around to it (using the old wired mouse as before).
Now, I'm reading some stories on the peripherals forum that owners of Mac Pro's have issues with lag and tracking with the new Magic Mouse, and some are stating that it's a known problem with the Mac Pro chassis that it doesn't enable adequate bluetooth operation due to all the metal. Is this true? What's your experience using a bluetooth mouse with the Mac Pro?

This is the "problem" I'm having:
I connected an external mouse (logitech) to my computer, and went into system preferences and set tracking speed to max. The response I get from the mouse is still a bit slow for my liking in Mac OS X.
Also the really annoying bit is that when I move my external mouse slowly, the tracking is extremely slow.
When I boot into windows 7 (via bootcamp), the tracking is just perfect.
I guess external mouse tracking in Mac OS X is not "windows like"?? Is there a way to fix this?
I got the Magic Mouse I bought like two days ago. I'm very new to Mac and I've been wondering if there is any way to make the Mouse Tracking even faster than it's possible on the System Preference.

I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. I did some Google searches but didn't find anything helpful.

I checked system profiler but quite frankly wasn't sure of the designations.. does anyone have any experience with this camera, by the way? is USB 2.0 by definition "High Speed"?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a WDS local network at my house. I use a Airport Extreme in my main part of the house and a Airport Express for my back part of the house i.e. the backyard. Now every two weeks or so my internet speed through my Airport Express slows down about half the speed but when I am connected trough the Airport Extreme my speed is normal. I know this because I test my connection very often. Now when I want the Airport Express to get back up to speed I have to unplug, and plug it back in. Then after awhile it starts to slow down again in a time period of two weeks or so.

I'm using Data Rescue III on a USB powered hard drive with and it's taking a very long time with my iMac G5... It says 42,291 hours remaining (about 5 years) If I did it on my Mac Pro would it go faster, or is the recovery speed based on the hard drive speed?
