I've got everything plugged in and have been working with the laptop screen closed for about an hour. I wanted to see what would happen if I opened the laptop screen and nothing happened - it remained off.
View 2 RepliesI have sold a Pismo on eBay. I showed pictures from all angles with the date superimposed including the working screen. The buyer received it the day after it was collected from my house and it seems that the packaging was fine when it got there. The buyer took it out of the box, turned it on and was happy to see that the Pismo fired up as you would expect. He said that it still had 98% power left in the battery. (I'm just adding everything I can think of in case it makes a difference)
The then shut the laptop down by moving the mouse pointer across to the little apple at top left of screen and choosing "Shut down" followed by clicking the "Are you sure" screen. He then closed the lid and took the laptop upstairs where there is access to the internet via a wired router and ethernet cable. There is no wireless access in the house.
So when he got upstairs, he opened the lid and pressed the power button. He then waited .... and waited ..... and waited but the screen stayed blank. The only way to tell that the laptop was turned on was that the Capslock light reacted to the key being pressed.
I have asked him to write me an e-mail listing everything he has tried to make it work. I'm not much use with Macs and all I could tell him was to try inserting the restore DVD, shutting down by holding down the power button for a few seconds and then holding down the "C" key at start-up.
I have a macbook, and I replaced my Super Drive with a DualDrive that I got from powerbook medic. I decided to install Mac OS X on the Dual Drive and it installed correctly, but when ever I close my laptop screen, my hardrive turns off and I have to restart my computer. Is there any way that I can make it so that when I close my laptop screen it does not turn off my hardrive?

However, for a job I'm doing at the moment, it would be handy to have the use of two screens. I've got a 17" MacBook Pro on OSX 10.5.7 and a 15" TiBook on OSX 10.4.11.
Can I connect the TiBook to the MacBook Pro in such a way that I can use it to extend the screen? IE: main window on MBP and menus etc on Ti? If so how? Is it easy to switch back and forth on the Ti so I can get back to it's own screen easily?
Whenever I move my macbook on my desk with the lid open, or when I open the lid, or when I close the lid, my screen flickers to black and then back open many times. Is this a weak connection some where? Sometimes the screen will stay black until I move the lid a little bit. I bought it refurbished from Apple this spring. I do not have applecare.

I wanted to plug it in to my bubble emac, but what cable am i looking for? and is it cheap? I have sound comming from it when you turn it on, and when u use the volume keys but thats it. Oh and when you use the mouse pad it leaves light trails on the screen.

I bought the appropriate vga adapter and cable, but once connected, I only see my desktop picture on the tv screen-- none of the folders on my desktop, and doesn't pull up my internet screens either. Do I need to click something to go into "tv mode"? I was hoping to play dvds from my laptop, or even my netflix play on demand movies.

I then tried to force quite pages and it wouldn't work so I had to force shut down. It then would not turn fully on and was on the grey screen for a long period of time. It eventually came back to homepage after about 30 minutes but did not fully load. It now wont go past grey screen and has a bar at the bottom.

My screen today suddenly went black but the laptop was still running. I shut it down and unplugged for several hours, no luck. I have done the hard SMC and PRAM resets. Both times the apple screen comes up but now it just stays a solid grey.

I first thought my battery power had shut off, so then I closed the laptop but that little light on right front side was still blinking meaning the computer was still on. I then shut down the computer and turned it back on but as it started the screen was its normal brightness for about 3 seconds then it quickly went black again. If I shine a light on the screen I can barely make out what it shows, which is my normal screen when I open up the laptop. Did my screen somehow break from overuse or does have to do with the battery?

I dropped a glass of milk on my MacBook Pro yesterday, I was so sad. The milk landed all around, keyboard, trackpad, screen. I dried it all with a towel and it works perfectly. But, the screen is completely ruined. It is smudgy and sticky, and blurry with milk. I think using a towel is the worst thing I could have done. After connecting an external screen I can go to the first opening screen but the cursor won’t move. I tried to use the “Command,” “Option” and “Esc” keys on the keyboard at the same time to bring up the “Force Quit Applications” window but it doesn't work. After restarting I'm back at the same screen, still frozen.

my mid-2012 Macbook Pro Retina laptop is having Retina screen problems at startup, bootup and wakeup modes. The main failure mode is, during reboot or wakeup the laptop's Retina display screen does not work, a blank Retina screen results, and the keyboard does not light up. Also, at random times the laptop will just crash and self reboot, but then during reboot the Retina screen does not work but the computer reboots. Additionally, this laptop, compared to my work's PC laptops is lightly used, mostly for web browsing, photo viewing and email. At first this problem was only intermittent, but now the Retina displace screen failure mode has become a chronic repeating failure mode and is happening almost everyday and stays in this Retina display failure mode for a longer period of time. Additionally, this 2012 Macbook Pro Retina laptop had a failed graphics card within its first 4 months of light use, the failed graphics card had to be replaced.

I download all my tv shows on my laptop and whenever i finish watching a few i move it to my MacPro. I have around 90G worth of movies/tv shows on my laptop, once i finish watching for example the daily show i would delete it but i would keep other tv shows.
Do i need to defrag my laptop and if so how and how often? I am told that i have to do so only if i transfer lots of large files often.
