Hardware :: Xbox Connected To Macbook?
Aug 26, 2009
I'm staying in a hotel that offers wifi only. I'm too cheap to buy the $100 wifi dongle for my Xbox. Is it possible to connect Xbox to Macbook via ethernet or any other method and use the wifi from Macbook to connect Xbox online?

First I don't know where this kind of topic belongs, but I'm new here as you can see, and I just would like to receive help for this problem of mine. Alright, I get very confused when it comes to stuff like networking and I'm trying to get Xbox Live working by using my Verizon Wireless 5GB card plugged into my laptop and then connecting that with a ethernet cable into a port on the Xbox. I'm not sure if it's going to work but I'm going to try. ( as mobile broadband I heard is slower for things like online multiplayer.)[URL:....] I've followed these steps precisely however I don't think they apply to people with a wireless card but rather a wireless router ( which I'm not using. ) So I'm not sure what to internet share ( my mobile connection or airport) and what settings I should manually set for the Xbox ( The DNS, I.P. addresses, Gateway) I would appreciate somebody who has been in this unique situation before to help me out step by step or link me a better explanation of this.

I consider myself very good at all things Mac. But this one has me stumped.
I've just arrived home with a WD My Book Home Edition 1TB external drive. Formatted for Windows it mounted correctly via FireWire and USB.
First things first: I formatted it for the Mac... Mac OS Extended (Journaled), two GUID partition tables. So far so good. Each partition is recognized, each mounts like it should.
Time Machine then backed up my Intel iMac... again, everything's normal. No odd or unusual behavior.
Here's where things get strange.
For whatever reason I formatted the drive via USB. But my intention hereafter is to connect via FireWire... I need each USB port for peripherals.
But the drive isn't recognized through FireWire. I'm asked if I want to initialize it. When reconnected through USB the drive mounts again.
What's going on? Why is the drive recognized when connected via USB but not when connected via FireWire?

Right now to connect to Xbox live like this
~wireless = ethernet
Actiontec router/modem(verizonfios)~~~~~~ macbook=====xbox360
Right now my NAT is set to moderate and I am trying to open it. I've tried opening ports but there are so many IPs/computers in the network settings I feel like it might be interfering. Another thing is that I manually set my ethernet ip to 10.0.0.1 and my xboxs ip to 10.0.0.2. This is obviously not one of my ISPs IP adresses so should I change it to one that is in the DNS range?

Alright, here goes my last two weeks. Two Sundays ago I was playing football with a couple friends. The game ended abruptly when I broke my leg and went to the hospital, but thats not the bad part. I was in the hospital for 6 hours and when I got home I found that someone had broken in and stolen my 32" Vizio flatscreen TV, xbox 360 elite, DVD player, and most importantly my 15" Macbook Pro. I called the police immediately and they came out and did the standard police thing, but as I've been in contact with them lately, they say they have no leads and I'm not going to get my stuff back, bottom line. Now I'm left with no computer to work with and worst of all, I know I'll never get the things back that were important to me on that computer. I had pictures on it from when I was 10 years old and I'll never see them again. I worked really hard to save the money to buy those things and they are all gone in an instant. I just can't believe it. I have no one else to turn to and I just don't know what else I can do. I'm getting married soon and I can't afford to go buy a new laptop, to be honest at this point that's all I care about as far as what was stolen. If anyone knows any way to track a laptop or xbox 360 it would be appreciated. I know its a long shot.

I've been looking around the internet for a solution to this problem. I'm currently in an apartment with a single wired connection running to my Macbook Pro, i haven't got time to buy a switch or router right now and i've been trying to connect my 360 to the internet using Airport. All of the how-to's i've found so far concern connecting the 360 and Macbook via Ethernet rather than Airport, and while i've tried to follow the steps as best as i can i haven't been able to connect to xbox live.

I like to DJ in my spare time and use the macbook for my software program, but using the integrated cam doesnt give a good angle at my mixers. I used the xbox live vision cam with my PC laptop, but I got rid of it and only have the macbook now. Ive tried just plugging it in and I dont know how to access it. I occasionally do live mixes on stickam where you dont get to choose which cam to use. So if I can get the xbox cam to work, how can I temporarily disable the integrated cam?

I am currently using Vuze to stream movies on my MBP i7 to my Xbox 360. Well, lately its been creating rebuffing and etc making the video experience a bit dreadful. I am looking for a decent solution in converting my videos so I can throw them all on a drive and directly connect with my Xbox 360.

I got my MacBook Pro finally and I've been thinking about investing in a capture card to record gameplay from my Xbox. I've heard alot of mixed reviews on the Pinnacle for Mac, and it's also pretty expensive. So, is there a good device that can capture gameplay off of an Xbox while not forcing me to play on a computer screen?

I've got quite a simple question about an MBP and an Xbox 360, which I'm sure some have asked and others have answered before, but I'm looking for a straight-forward response given the situation I find myself into. So I've got the two devices, and I'd like to use the MBP's display as a video output for the 360. What I've also got is a VGA adapter for the 360, so I could connect it to a monitor instead of a TV. So basically, is this achievable, and if it is, what else do I need, in case I need anything else? Sorry for the improper way of writing this message, but all I have is an HTC Desire, and I find it quite difficult to type very well.

I have a macbook (10.5.1), and I am trying to share my internet through Airport -> Macbook -> Ethernet Cable -> Xbox 360 to get onto Xbox Live.
-What do I manually put as my IP?
-Subnet Mask is 255.255.0.0 or is it 255.255.255.0
-What do I put as my gateway?
Now, every time that my IP has confirmed, the DNS fails. How do I configure this properly?

Say I set up my xbox with a component to minidisplay port adapter and plugged the mini display port into my macbook pro 13 inch, could i use the moniter as a dsplay for my xbox. I currently don't have an hd tv in my dorm and i like the display on my macbook and would like to use it. Also, would it be possible to buy something like an hdmi to firewire 800 and then use the firewire port on my macbook for the video in. Even though the mini displayport is an output, will it make a difference. I am also interested in buying a capture device and using that with the usb port on my mac, but i have heard that the latancy is really bad and you don't get to play at the full resolution.

I've tried several routers, and all have them have failed me giving me massive timeouts and sudden disconnects. I think this should be a good solution.

The little icon on the lower right corner of my XP partition shows that I am connected to my internet, and the connection is very strong. But when I open up Firefox or Steam or AIM, it all says I'm offline and asks if I would like to connect. I tried restarting, repairing the connection, and almost everything else I can think of.

Is there anything out there that I could use so I can pop a xbox 360 disk into my mac and play the game? I have a loaded macbook pro so, the system pref are up there for speed and graphics. I'm aware that the xbox 360 is one powerful machine and that people had some trouble making a emulator work on a pc. I've done some research and what I've found is that some people use mac g5 for game servers running 360 games. I'm also noticed that they made guitar hero 3 for pc and a bunch of xbox 360 based games for it. Since you can play that on a pc, wouldn't one think that an xbox 360 emulator for a mac would work? I would like to find an xbox 360 emulator for the mac os x. Can anyone help me out? If there isn't a such thing right now, what would one have to do to make something like this become a reality?
