I want to watch videos on my television. My only option is composite video and audio, I can not use component, s-video, or anything else. Is there any cable i can use to connect my macbook's Mini DisplayPort to my tv's composite video port. I do not need 1080p cinematic video with 85 channel surround sound or anything, I just need ok video and understandable audio.

My TV has s video and the red white and yellow inputs. Also, is there a difference between mini DVI and mini display port? I would like the cable to be relatively long, too.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was at the Apple store this weekend and stumbled onto their mini VGA to S-Video/Composite video adapter. It was cheap so I picked it up and took it home to my G3 ibook (white 12", not the colorful ones). I hooked it up the ibook, then the TV (Aquos 32" HD) via a composite video cord and started the ibook. No picture. I restarted the ibook a few times, adjusted the screen resolution and still no picture.
I then started the ibook without the adapter and hooked the adapter up once the ibook was running. The screen on the ibook dimmed and came back quickly, but no video on the TV. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure where to start.
I have the most recent Macbook Pro, and I want to connect it to my projector. The projector has an S-Video port. The new Macbook Pros don't have a mini-DVI port, so I can't use a Micro-DVI to S-Video adapter.

My idea was to connect the iMac with the TV through the S - video input by using the apple's video adapters Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and Apple DVI to Video Adapter. But when i saw the pictures of these adapters i saw that my idea is impossible, because the connection between them is impossible because of the 4 additional pins in one of the adapters - Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter. I've had the 13" aluminum macbook since October 2008 and I've never had a problem with the wireless or an Ethernet connection. I turned on my computer the other day and I couldn't connect to the internet through my ethernet port. I've determined it's not my connection (friend's macbook connects fine) and I've tried connecting to other ports around my campus and it still doesnt work. On network settings, the light is green, cable detected, assigned an ip address and dns but it simply times out when I try to connect to anything (firefox, itunes store, mail, etc.). I'm fairly new to mac os x.

I'm on a very small college campus where they graciously block every port except for web and a few other app ports (iChat video doesn't work, SMTP ports are blocked, and of course bit torrent doesn't work). I can usually get connected to the tracker, but no peers ever connect. Now for those who may chastise me for using bit torrent, I'm downloading a video my friend made in the US, so there is no legal aspect to this.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had a D-Link DI-604 4-port LAN 1-port WAN ethernet router since 2003 which has allowed all of the wired computers in the house access to the internet (I have broadband via a cable modem). I recently introduced an AirPort Express router which I connected to one of the LAN ports on the D-Link and I now have wireless internet access on my MBP with no problems. However I plan to also purchase an AirPort Extreme router to make use of its AirDisk feature and improve wifi reception in the house. From a security perspective, I am wondering if it would be more secure to connect the WAN port on the Extreme to one of the LAN ports on the D-Link, thus in theory being protected by 2 different hardware firewalls? Or does this not make any difference, in which case I should simply replace the D-Link with the AirPort Extreme?

Nevertheless, when I try to connect from another machine's browser or try to telnet to my Mac (telenet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 8080), the connection is refused. e.g. my IE browser running on a PC in the network simply says "The page cannot be displayed", when I try to surf at my application http://<my.mac.ip>:8080/mazda. I have a doubt about FW800 compatibility. I�m about to buy the new iMAC 27" and have in mind to buy a bidirectional video converter: There�s a note that says: "A video capture card or OHCI FireWire connection is required to capture DV. IEEE 1934 FW800 connectors are not supported". But I read that I could connect this device to the FW800 port with a FW400 to FW800 adapter (or otherwise buy the FireWire 800(1394b)/FireWire 400 (1394a) 9-Pin to 4-Pin Interconnect Cable) and would work fine as if was compelling with IEEE1934 rules. I wonder if FCS would recognize the video signal and I�m not making a mistake buying this device. Capturing analog media is part of my services. Any suggestions of a similar device that would work with a FW800 connection? Or the Canopus ADVC110 will work properly in the new iMAC?

CableVision to old VCR so I can make use of its built-in tuner, RCA cables from VCR to ADS (Converts inputs to RCA & Firewire out), and Firewire from ADS to MacBook.
This all works fine but I then realized I have no decent program to watch the video on. I can open Quicktime and see a small window, and no doubt if I hit record the sound would be captured as well but the sound is not audible while monitoring. I tried iMovie and again had a small window to watch. Still not what I want. So what can I use to watch the video from my Firewire full screen and with sound?
I'm looking for a 1 TB external hard drive to connect to a firewire 400 port to use to backup my iMac. So far, the better drives, 7200 rpm, seem only to have usb 3 connectivity or are expensive. Is there an adapter or cable to connect a usb 3 input device to a firewire 400 port?
