Hardware :: Connect WAN Port On Extreme To One Of LAN On Dlink?

May 23, 2010

I've had a D-Link DI-604 4-port LAN 1-port WAN ethernet router since 2003 which has allowed all of the wired computers in the house access to the internet (I have broadband via a cable modem). I recently introduced an AirPort Express router which I connected to one of the LAN ports on the D-Link and I now have wireless internet access on my MBP with no problems. However I plan to also purchase an AirPort Extreme router to make use of its AirDisk feature and improve wifi reception in the house. From a security perspective, I am wondering if it would be more secure to connect the WAN port on the Extreme to one of the LAN ports on the D-Link, thus in theory being protected by 2 different hardware firewalls? Or does this not make any difference, in which case I should simply replace the D-Link with the AirPort Extreme?

Using the airport utility i scroll over to the port forwarding tab in my airport extreme. I dont know how im doing this wrong..i allow the ports that amule uses (port 4662 (TCP) and a few others for the kad network). Is it as simple as typing in 4662 in the public TCP and private TCP? I still obtain a low id and the online test provided by amule for the port 4662 doesnt succeed. Any help would be great.

OS X :: How To Port Forward Transmission With Apple Extreme Base Station

May 18, 2009

It was drawn to my attention recently by a friend that I may not be getting the speeds I should from Transmission due to my lack of port forwarding. I just want to make it clear that I know nearly nothing about setting up/configuring routers, ports, upnp, static ip, or whatever other jargon is associated with this stuff. Quite frankly, most things to do with routers terrify me.

In the preferences for Transmission it says that my port is closed. In case any of this is relevant I'm using a 2008 model 20" iMac connected wirelessly to an Apple Extreme Base Station, which in turn is connected to a D-Link 502T modem.

I've already gone to [URL] but everything I try seems to not work and confuse me. Every other forum post I've read about this topic has lots of jargon I don't understand, so if it is at all possible I would like somebody to explain how to do this to me as if they were teaching their grandfather how to use a computer for the first time!

OS X :: Are Port Forwarding Settings Saved On The Airport Extreme Or The Attached Mac

So I'd like to know if port forwarding settings are saved on the Airport Extreme or the Mac connected to it. If it's saved on the Mac, then I would just wait till I get my replacement to set up port forwarding.

Hardware :: Can AirPort Extreme Work Via Cat5 Ethernet Port Within Network?

Dec 11, 2009

Can my AirPort Extreme work via a Cat5 ethernet port within my network? I ask because we've had no luck doing this where as our older Airport Express works just fine this way. Thoughts? We upgraded to the Extreme to extend the signal (and have 2 antennas) and trying to avoid hooking it up to the cable modem box which is even further away than where the Airport Express was located.

OS X :: Unable To Connect Via Ethernet Port

May 17, 2009

I've had the 13" aluminum macbook since October 2008 and I've never had a problem with the wireless or an Ethernet connection. I turned on my computer the other day and I couldn't connect to the internet through my ethernet port. I've determined it's not my connection (friend's macbook connects fine) and I've tried connecting to other ports around my campus and it still doesnt work. On network settings, the light is green, cable detected, assigned an ip address and dns but it simply times out when I try to connect to anything (firefox, itunes store, mail, etc.). I'm fairly new to mac os x.

Mac Pro :: Airport Extreme Card - Which Of The 3 Wires To Connect?

Sep 27, 2006

I bought a MacPro two weeks ago and have just taken delivery of the bluetooth module and Airport Extreme card design specifically for the Mac Pro. I've put the bluetooth card in and connected up the cable that has "BT" label on it. I thought it would be same for Airport Card but there's 3 cables to choose from labelled intuitively "1" "2" and "3". All with the same connectors on the end and all taped up together. The Airport Extreme card requires 2xcables to be connected. Anybody out there have a MacPro with Airport pre-installed and can take the side off and have a look at their config for me please? They are supposed to be a service center install hence don't come with a manual, they refer you to the AppleCare Service Source Website.

In order for it to work, I have to leave our old Belkin wireless router plugged in between the APX and cable modem.
