I want to use my new macbook (2.4ghz 2g ram 250 hdd) as my default DVD player in my room, but I am not sure what cable I could use from the mini display port to my old piece of crap TV. My TV has s video and the red white and yellow inputs. Also, is there a difference between mini DVI and mini display port? I would like the cable to be relatively long, too.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was at the Apple store this weekend and stumbled onto their mini VGA to S-Video/Composite video adapter. It was cheap so I picked it up and took it home to my G3 ibook (white 12", not the colorful ones). I hooked it up the ibook, then the TV (Aquos 32" HD) via a composite video cord and started the ibook. No picture. I restarted the ibook a few times, adjusted the screen resolution and still no picture.
I then started the ibook without the adapter and hooked the adapter up once the ibook was running. The screen on the ibook dimmed and came back quickly, but no video on the TV. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure where to start.
If I had a Macbook pro, how would I connect it to a CRT TV with RCA inputs and S video? To watch movies off of the laptop.

I've been working to get a document camera plugged into my computer, and I just got it working via a Canopus box. The Canopus box takes the s-video and sends the signal through firewire to my Mac. But the image is upside down. Flipping the camera around would be very inconvenient... is there any program I can get that will allow me to invert the video signal? Also, what's the best way to display a video signal on the screen? I'm using screen capture software so I want the video image on the screen while I'm recording. So far I have only figured out iChat --> Video Preview. It seems to me there should be something more handy... with maybe a few zoom buttons, reflect image, that sort of thing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of adding a second monitor and instead of using the second DVI port on my 8800GT I'd like to just add an ATI 2600XT and plug the second monitor into that, saving extra strain on the 8800GT.
My questions are:
1) Do the 8800GT and 2600XT play nice together in one box?
2) Can an application grab just one monitor without using windowed mode? (simple e.g. WoW running full screen on the 8800GT and the desktop showing on the 2600XT).
This whole thing started with my friend offering to buy my imac... i currently have an iMac (witch has all my music, videos, photos and a few programs i would intend on keeping) and a recently purchased macbook uni... The goal is to keep all my music and photos etc. but i don't want to have any of them on my MB (except the programs).
I started (and almost bought) with a time capsule. I liked the wireless transfer and thought it would be cool to have my music accessed from my MB, that i would have connected to my receiver. This is where reading other threads and reviews got my wheels turning and in turn looking down the avenue of a mac mini instead or possibly a apple tv with a external hd...
The ultimate goal is to have my audio and video easily connected to my home theater. I'm not completely against hooking my MB to my receiver I just dont want to have it stored on my MB... I have a bunch of audio recording software, some of which is transferred over from my old PowerBook G4 running Tiger, not all of which is absolutely known to work with Snow Leopard (which I have on my brand new iMac). The rest is known to work with SL, but for some reason isn't recognizing the audio inputs and in some cases, ends up crashing whenever I try to do anything. My theory is that there may be some sort of conflict with older versions or preferences that transferred over when I used Migration Assistant to set up the new computer last week.
I've gone through the system and user libraries and tried to remove all of the preferences files and other things that would have been referenced by older versions of the software, in an attempt to fix this issue, but I've had no luck yet. I'm wondering if a clean reinstall of SL may be the solution, skipping Migration Assistant and then just copying my important preference files manually? If that's the case, how would I go about doing the reinstall? I've never done it before.
I'm looking for something fairly inexpensive - less than $250). I've got a new Samsung P2350 - which is nice - but it only has one DVI input and one VGA input. This was all I figured I needed when I picked it up. I've got an XP machine connected via DVI (using long DVI cable because the PC is in a closet on the other side of the room). My new mac mini is connected via Apples mini-display-port to vga adapter & std 4-5 ft VGA cable.
My issue is that the Mini's VGA image is not nearly as clear as it is when I connect via DVI. As a result, I'd like to be able to connect both systems to the same monitor via DVI. As another possible option (and much cheaper solution). Is it possible that the DVI to VGA adapter Apple sells would yield a better picture than the min-disp to VGA adapter that I'm currently using?
I have a mini mac, I cannot get the built in audio mic or line in mic to work. Sys preference only shows line in... Audio line-in port
but the applications only show the built-in input is available but that does not work either..

I know that I will need to get a Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and then run that output through a PC to TV Converter.
A converter like this one states that it only supports 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 display modes. If the converter is outputting a 1024x768 then I guess I'm going to have to stretch the screen and thus I will loose some quality, right?
What do I need to connect from my IMAC to my Sony Bravio HDTV? Ideally wirelessly would be ideal. If that is not possible what cables/hardware do I I want to connect for both video & audio.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a 2G iMac and I have it connected to a Philips HD TV with a mini-dvi to dvi adapter that is connected to a HDMI-to-DVI video cable. I also have a Y audio cable connected iMac to the AV1 on the TV. The problem is I can only select one source on my TV, either AV1 or HDMI 1. If I select AV1 I can hear the audio from the video streaming on my computer (no video shows on the TV), but if I select HDMI 1 I can only see my desktop background no audio or video. How can I get both the video and audio to play at the same time? Why am I only seeing my background and not video?

The only reason why I did this is because I have 2 250GB external HD and I always want to have I cloned copy of my System and Data Partitions. Now, Im planning to get a 1.5T external HD drive, is it a good idea to just have a single partition on my MB and clone it on the one of the partitions on 1.5T HD? will it slow down my system?btw, I am running SL 10.6.4 with 4G of RAM if this is a factor.

Someone at work recorded a screen capture video. Within the frame, there's good material but a lot of garbage around the edges that I don't want (what Sally Hogshead would call "screen crapture"). The good stuff lasts the entire duration of the clip, is not perfectly centered, and does not move at all in its placement or change size throughout the clip.
If I crop or trim, I can eliminate the garbage, either making it transparent or black (there's no other clip beneath it to show through) easily enough. Is there a way to then export just the desired portion of the video frame (the non-cropped good stuff) as its own video at a smaller frame size?

I listen to and watch a lot of podcasts. Quite often, after I am done listening to a Audio Podcast I will watch a video podcast. Some times it gets stuck and won't play the video but plays audio fine. Anyone else have this problem?
