I am able to see my server shares when I connect my bacbook pro via cable, but when i connect via wifi the network shares are not visible. a windows laptop connecting over the same wifi router can see the server shares. Does OS x 10.6 use a different port that I need to open on my wireless router?

I figured no biggie, when I got away from the head office they'd go away. But they didn't. And I can't figure out how to get rid of them.See attached photo.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble printing to a printer shared by my Mac Pro running 10.6.8 from my MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 Printer sharing is turned on on my Mac pro, they are connected to the same network, the MacBook via Airport and the Mac Pro via ethernet. I can quite happily swap files between them. When I try to add a printer on the MacBook the Canon iP4300 simply doesn't show up under the list of available printers as I think it should do.

Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running OS X Server 10.6.8 and I created a new group in Workgroup Manager and I'd like to share a group folder for that group. I created the share and when I go to set the path for the group folder, Workgroup Manager keeps sticking the actual name of the group onto the end of the folder name I'm using. I have an example below since I know it is probably hard to understand what I'm trying to describe. On the group shared tab in Workgroup Manager, it asks for a Path name. My group name is Test and the folder I want to appear on the dock for this group is called Help. For the Path name I enter Help, since that is the name of the folder I want to appear. When I save the changes and go back to look at the information I put in, the Path now says Help/Test and when I log in, I have a question mark on my dock instead of the Help folder. This used to work in 10.4 without any problems. Now 10.5 & 10.6 want to call the group shared folder whatever the name of the actual group is.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy iMac freezes once or twice even three times a day for no obvious reason. This happens using safari only or safari and mail.This has happened for 2 weeks. No change in my system for 2 years, except regular updates. I can close the application (Safari for example) but the iMac stays frozen. When I use "force to quit", it is proposed to restart Finder. But, the iMac stays stucked with the color wheel turning. The only way to stop and restart is to switch off and on.

I am having problem with my Mac Air. For some reason when I go to Finder, there is no list of Shared computers. However, when I open Finder on my MacBook Pro it shows all shared computers in the area. From my MacBook Pro I can see the shared Mac Air, but nothing in shared of Mac Air. All shared setting on on MacBook Pro. Plus there more shared computers on the network. I think something wrong with Mac Air settings.

Any clue as to what it is and how I can get rid of it? If I right click I only get Open or Get Info as options. If I click Open I get "Connection Failed". If I click on Get Info it displays "PC Server" under kind. I did try to get my MBP to print in my PCs HP printer (unsucessfully) using cups. So I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I'd just like to delete it but don't know how.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOn the dock, to the far right you can have applications, downloads, etc list of folder. What I would like to do is modify the default behavior for these icons only so that they open on hover rather than click. I want to do this because I have them setup as list style, and I can very quickly browse to whatever folder I need from there. If you open a folder in column view, you can hold down ALT and resize all the columns at the same time. This will also change column size for ALL folders in the system immedietly. Is there such a shortcut where I can also change the size of the finder window for ALL finder windows? Some finder windows open as tiny little thing, and I woudl prefer a nice large default window. I know you can do each one separately and close it but who wants to do that for every folder?

Tried to turn off computer and it kept prompting me to force quite various applications. I have since restarted the computer but now am getting this error when trying to open Finder. I have looked through several discussions and unfortunately am not an apple expert so much of what I am reading is foreign to me.I have opened the Terminal and entered a prompt that made all of my desktop docs and finder visable, but as soon as I closed out the Terminal it all disappeared again.Can anyone point me in the right direction - step by step - to get Finder back up and running.To my knowledge all other applications seem to be working as normal.FYI I do have a few extermal items attached to the Mac. (1) extermanl hard drive for the Time Machine, and USB drive.

I downloaded and installed the updates for the OS and now there is no "shared" section in the finder at all. Shared items are checked in the preferences. Selecting "go" and "network" doesn't do anything. I checked in the system preferences and the name of the workgroup is correct. The other computers in the workgroup can see my shared folders, but I can no longer see anything shared.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find out how to change the way finder presents itself while it is looking at a shared computer, because it appears to be doing this incorrectly, or is messed up some how. If you look at the screen shot of the highlighted drives of this shared computer, you will notice there are multiple instances of drive J and I would like to remove the repeated link. Also some of the drives have names associated with them, while others do not. I cannot figure out why some take the name given to the drive under windows in the macs finder window and why some do not? To throw another odd question in, drive G is not labeled movies anywhere, but rather is a drive labeled TV Shows under windows. Rebooting does nothing, as this has been there for months, even after a restore.

I renamed one of my computers at home. Now both instances of it show up in the Shared section of the finder sidebar and I can't remove the old one. When I do a Get Info, it shows as a PC Server, but I can't actually access anything on it. Is there any way to keep this from showing up?
