Hardware :: TFT Active Matrix And TN The Same Technology - Early 08 MBP?
Jan 13, 2009
I want to find something cheap b/c I'm going to buy the new ACD in about a year. This is only to help me with some simple web development. (15" isn't to enough.)
I have some questions. Is the TFT active matrix and TN the same technology or not? Does it go like TFT < TN < IPS? What is in the early '08 MBP? I don't want the laptop display putting the monitor to shame. (At least not too badly.)I'm hoping to get out of it ~ $100-$130. If it has speakers, that would be a plus. Also, it needs to be 19"+.
i saw in the tech specs that macbook air has "bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology" while macbook pro has "bluetooth 2.1 + edr wireless technology". what's the difference ? and which one is better ?
Is anyone still using a dot matrix / impact printer on a current or recent-era Mac? I've a need to use one for some multi-part stationery and plan on attaching it to an Intel iMac with MacOS 10.6. As it's currently attached to a grey-box G3 (which had the old 8 pin MiniDin serial socket) I'd hope that the Keyspan USB adaptor would link the old to the new, but whether anyones recently gone down this route or now, I'd like to hear from you? ?Drivers concern me, but hope also that Imagewriter drivers or a generic printer driver will suffice?
I am really really dying inside since upgrading to Snow Leopard because my screensavers are....*sobs* DEAD! or at least the only one that I used to love, Fenetres Volants.
So since then I've been using some default screensavers and looking for a replacement.
What I want is a black background with scrolling text. Sadly, there are too many wunnabe 1337 kids that fell in love with escaping to the Matrix where the junior high bullies can't hurt them so all Google results yield ching-chonganese text falling. What I really want is a screensaver that looks like it's running a command line level operation.
I searched and didnt find any feedback in regards to G-Technology 1TB G-DRIVE High-Performance Hard Drive that I found on Apple.com Anyone currently using this external drive or recommend others?
I had been wondering if the new Airs use the same battery technology as the newer MBPs, namely the 1000 charge cycle rating. I assumed not since apple didn't explicitly talk about how amazing the new Air's battery was. Anyway, I finally found this buried in Apple's battery page [URL:...] Quote: The built-in battery of the MacBook Air is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at up to 750 full charge and discharge cycles. The built-in battery in the new 13-, 15-, and 17-inch MacBook Pro is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles. So I guess it's a mixed bag...not quite up to the level of the MBPs, but certainly better than the old batteries.
For the MBA, the Dell Adamo is now a direct competitor. Do you think Apple is possibly keeping the same technology, and just working to make it thinner? or do you think they will keep the same height/weight, and upgrade the parts?
I'm thinking about buying the new MacBook pro, the 15 inch i7 to be specific, and this thought just came to my head. USB 3.0. Will Apple likely adapt to this technology soon? I know it's dumb to always wait for the next computer just because the specs are not caught up. If everyone did this, no one would ever buy a computer, but I'm going to own this laptop for a long time, and am I really going to want to own something that will be missing USB 3.0 when that becomes the standard in a year?
I've been thinking lately, the pentium 3 architecture was pretty solid. I mean look what its brought us now, the core duo and core 2 duo architecture are both heavily based off of this design and obviously leave powerpc in the dust. I think the problem is that the SIMD instructions on the pentium 3 weren't heavily pushed in benchmarks, whereas everything done with the G4 was almost always altivec enhanced. Lets look at some articles as well [URL:...] Seems to come to the same conclusion i'm thinking , Also this article goes a bit more in depth so you can see the architectures of the day [URL:....] So I'm not sure, was it all just the buzz of the day? I mean sure, apple may have had the better operating systems, but was it just steve jobs candy coating things to make us think we had the better hardware as well?
I'm usually just a reader and not a contributer here at macrumours, but a few days ago i watched Machete, Robert Rodriguez's new movie. Amongst all the exaggerated violence, I couldn't help but notice that Jessica Alba's Macbook Pro in the movie has many of the new design traits as the Macbook Air. The most noticeable of these is the white surrounding around the screen. This discovery alone prompted me to register here and post this. Here are three snapshots from the movie to prove my point. So could this possibly be the design for a 2011 Macbook Pro release? And will this mean the new MBP will sport MBA features such as instant on technology?
I was watching Apple's event on quicktime , and the whole 1:30 hour show streamed with no pre-downloading on my slow internet connection(512kbs at best) while youtube videos of 5 and 10 min will take very long time to load, actually they won't stream ever, all the time they will need to be downloaded at first, this goes for html5 AND flash. what is this technology apple is using to stream video? Why can't other websites utilize it as it is much more convenient? can you benefit using it on your own personal website?
I was just thinking it would be great to find an application or utility for OS X that could dim the desktop / other running Apps (if any) and just show the active Application in full 'brightness'.
Could help to concentrate on whatever I'm working on rather than letting my eyes wonder which, more often than not - causes me to loose focus what I'm really trying to work on.
I noticed after my initial install yesterday that the firewall does not appear to be on by default. Just throwing it out there so people can take action to activate the firewall.
I haven't checked to see if ipfw is doing anything out of the box, but I imagine not.
I just bought myself a second monitor, and I was wondering if there was a way to, say, keep iTunes visualizer full-screen while browsing the web on the other monitor. Basically, is there a way to keep two windows/programs active at the same time?
I have 4 emails that I check easily with my iPod Touch and I think its pretty easy to check it in mail on my dock but I was wondering if you can put more than two emails on it. Pictures would help if you know.
Is there a way to close all but the active windows in Mac apps (I'm running 10.6.5). I often end up having 10 Safari screens open and it would be great to be able to close all but the current one I'm looking at.
My bluetooth mouse ran out of battery and I was trying to do some keyboard only navigation. Somehow I turned on an option that places a totally annoying black box or rectangle around whatever item is active and has focus. This could be an icon in the finder or text in a warning box.
I tried to take a screenshot for clarity, but the act of taking the screenshot seems to move the box before the shot is taken.
Any idea how I can undo this?!? I'm thinking it's a Universal Access item, but I can't find any setting that changes it. I'm running Tiger with latest updates.
I would like to change my Active Indicator. How do I do that? I don't want to have a dot for the Indicator. I seen people have like a full circle for the active indicator.
Is there a way to keep dashboard active all the time? What i mean is, everytime i click on the dashboard icon it shows-up on the screen and the other programs running on the background just fades. And if i switch to any other programs/applications dashboard does not show-up anymore.
To be more concise, i would like to have it at my screen all the time without having to click it (of course i do have to click for the first time ). Is it possible?
Is there an app that will keep a webpage active? My work email logs me off if I'm not actively doing something in email about every 5 minutes with no activity. It's annoying to have to constantly log in again, if I'm surfing the web.
Can I use a 10.6.1 install disc to "active install" on a 10.5.6 mac? The support told me to active install, but we can't find the original install disc, but have the new one.
I want to be able to delete whatever file I have active...like if I open a txt file in Textedit and I see that I do not need it Id like to be able to delete it right then and there. I know I can close it then select it and send it to trash with Command + Delete but thats more work then I'd like and take to much ime...anyone know>? osx 10.4.11
Hey everyone, i'm starting to learn active directory in windows server 2003 but what i want to do with parallels if possible is setup a XP VM so i can see the effect of the changes/rules i setup in active directory.
Is this possible within Parallels or is it a pipe dream as it would be a fantastic learning tool.
The hardware it would be running on is a 24inch 1st gen iMac with 2GB of Ram.
What do you guys think and if it can be done what do i need to make sure of when it comes to setting up parallels?
I installed vista on my macbook used Parallels, but my problem is the sound not active in the windows vista. Could anyone help me to activate the sound in my windows vista?
