Hardware :: Notebook Sleeves
Nov 15, 2008
I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this or not but here it goes anyway. I just purchased at new 15" MBP and I want to get a sleeve so its a little more protected in my briefcase. From what I've been reading it doesn't sound like there are any out there that actually fit the new models properly. Has anyone purchased a sleeve and had that experience with the new model? Or does anyone have an idea if there is a brand that fits and protects? Or when a sleeve for the new models will be available?

Wanting to get a sleeve ordered for my 13.3" MBA that I am waiting for from apple. Looking to get something MBA specific to use inside my main bag. I am assuming most companies will continue with their MBA sleeves from the previous gen for the 13.3 as the size differences are small? Any recommendations? Preferably not USA based as they all charge ridiculous shipping to the UK, SFbags etc

Can someone point out some good websites or brands that make some reasonably prices but nice designer sleeves (more-so minimalistic or so, but I'm willing to check out anything). The last case I got was from Isis but they claim they're out of stock of all 3 choices I had asked for, and Etsy doesn't make 17" sleeves (or even 15, only 13). I need them for 17".

Longtime lurker and future MBP Arrandale owner (feels good to say it out loud). This will be my first MBP, but I got a small question about the cases/sleeves which is being sold by the Apple store. If the MBP comes out this week, will the current cases/sleeves fit the (new) MBP exactly? I want to buy a case or sleeve.

I'm looking to get a good form-fitting padded sleeve for the New MacBook Air 13". I care little about space on the bag for other items, but more for something that doesn't add much size to the machine itself when carried. Some good suggestions for the 11" here, but anybody have opinions on 13" designs?

I know, I know, another thread asking for advice. I've read through the forums, and I'm not really finding what I'm looking for. I'm seeing most of the sleeves on Amazon are listed as being for the other Macbook (the unibody aluminum one) I want a snug fit, and the power adapter shouldn't be factored into this decision, as I don't want a messenger bag, I will carry my Macbook in my backpack, so we're good there. Price range is under $40 USD including shipping. I was at the Apple store last week, and I looked at the Paul Frank ones, I don't need a designer case, I want one that will protect it, and that's about it.

Do you use a notebook along with your Mac Pro?
If yes, what notebook do you use?
What percentage of time do you spend on each?
My Mac Pro does the heavy lifting of course, superb for Photo/Movie editing, Server, file management etc ....
Why did I make this post? Well, I have a MacBook Air as well and because it's so damn light, small and easy to use anywhere I find myself using it for 80-90% of my work....
I sort of feel guilty not using my Mac Pro more, but hey, it's summer time, I don't have to work at a desk and the Air gives me a lot of freedom, I don't enjoy working at a desk as much as I used to, although you tend to be much more organized working from a desk ...

i have an iMac G3 17" running OS 10.2.8- my question is: by connecting my Mac to my WindowsXPHome netbook, with a USB cable, can I transfer files from my mac to my netbook. i would only be transferring .pdf,.jpg,.tiff. only file formats for which i have programs on the netbook which open those file formats. i need to know if this is possible before i buy a double ended USB2 cable for this purpose.

Simple question: what's the most secure notebook lock of those that are widely available (points for it being available on Amazon or Newegg). I bought the Kensington Microsaver Keyed Twin Notebook Lock (two locks; I'm locking a hard drive as well) and the Kensington Combosaver Combination Notebook Lock Ultra to test out and (eventually) send back to Amazon. Links here for reference:

Obviously tubular locks can be picked by industrious thieves (or just about anyone). Does the same hold true for this particular combo lock? I'd much prefer a combo lock if I knew that it was absolutely secure (minus the combo falling into the wrong hands, of course), but some combo locks can be picked even more easily than tubular locks.
Anyway, my point is that I'd like a lock that acts as slightly more than a mere sight deterrent, and actually could stop a thief from taking my laptop/hard drive. Again, I'm looking for something that fits into the standard security slot and can be bought through Amazon or Newegg or another such retailer. Obviously I'm not expecting magic, since industrial solutions are very expensive, but I'd like to fully explore my options.

I currently have lecture notes including audio saved in notebook layout in Word 2008 on my Mac. I am trying to send in an email just the text of the document - however when I copy and paste the text the email becomes too large because it seems to take the whole size of the document (e.g. text plus audio) which is sometimes as long as 8 hours worth of audio. Is there a simple way to copy just the text? I have tried converting the document into a different layout within Word (e.g. print layout) but this always ends up with Word crashing.

I dont call this for good, but it shows what is possible and that others work an Core i7-980X laptop while we get only C2D chips.
6 vs. 2 Cores for equal prices (sure not egual quality and it's very ugly) and Apple is still cool and thinks we are all happy with our mac's.
If this six core could run OSX, I would think about it. But I still hope for a 17"MBP with 4 cores.

Does anyone know if I can load Leopard on my notebook - it is currently running 10.3.9 - it has a 1.33 processor - according to what I found in the leopard info it should work but I tried for over 8 hrs yesterday - and all it does is sit there and spin with the little color wheel - I am getting very frustrated - I started all of this because my wife bought me an Ipod touch - which after several hours I figured out was useless without a system upgrade - so I decided after spending the money for Leopard I might as well upgrade to an Iphone instead of just the ipod - but now I am regretting it all - $460+ for a phone and case and $129 for the system that as of yet still doesn't work and I talked with the guy who usually upgrade my macs and he said 2 hrs per machine at $95/hr to load the upgrade and ooh yeah make sure your whole computer is backed up because leopard has been known to wipe everything out?

Just wanted to start a thread here to say I came up with an exciting skin for my precious 11.6" MacBook Air. Even though I lucked out with the 50% discount at ZAGG on their Cyber Monday sale to pick up a plain invisibleSHIELD, I returned it unused when I came up with this concept. I'll be posting the usable skin images on ZAGG's Custom Skin Designer page as soon as I receive the final ZAGGskin product from them (hopefully before this weekend), apply it on my Air, and take some shots with it. My last skinmod with a Leica camera skin on my iPhone 4 was well-received enough to be picked up by Gizmodo on their blog post. In the meantime, this is a Photoshop mockup of what it will look like.

did a clean install of Snow Leopard on my 2007 Macbook, it appears all went well. However, my MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 will not connect via Bluetooth. Based on a search elsewhere I installed the SL compatible MS Intellipoint software for the Mac but it will not work. It is "on" and "discoverable" but will not connect.
Anyone else have this mouse (or another BT notebook mouse, even) and get it working?
