I have had this macbook pro since Dec 27, 2008, and I decided to try my dvd drive to burn dvds for the first time today. I was using Toast 10 to burn my dvd, but it failed halfway through (SENSE KEY ERROR) and my drive wouldn't eject it! It was making funny noises inside the drive, so I decided to restart and presto! It popped out, turns out after that fiasco it stopped accepting any cds/dvd's I throw at it (It spins the disc 3 times then ejects it). I have tried resetting the PMU and Repairing disk permissions and both of them had no effect whatsoever.
I noticed that my Mini isn't accepting CDs, and when I look inside it appears that a thing piece of paper or cardboard is inserted in there (possibly stuck to the last CD I inserted, which of course didn't operate.) If I'm right, is this something I can fix myself by opening the case? If I decide I don't care because I almost never use CDs anyway, can I just leave it inside the Mini or will that cause some kind of problem over time?
I downloaded Adium last night and everything worked fine. I tried to sign in this morning and is just keeps asking me for my password for both my MSN and AIM accounts. I have tried both passwords multiple times and they are both correct. I have no idea why it doesn't want to sign in.
terminal isn't working. It's not accepting any of my commands or even recognizing them as such. And it just opens up to a blank terminal window. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't it supposed to open usr/bin/login?
I can no longer install software or access preferences that require me to type in my name and password. Everything was working fine until today. My password still works during startup, but my screensaver does not accept the password.
Yesterday I created a user using dscl in the terminal. I am assuming my troubles are related to that.
I found a free way to use hotmail email address on Mail and its worked very well EXCEPT my last software update. Now, it will send emails happily, but it refuses to receive emails. The program I use is HttpMail Plugin Version Leopard 1.53 (by daniel parnell). Its worked up till this last update on software. Any solutions?
Ok so opened Directory Utility, unlocked it and then selected Enable Root User and set a password, locked Directory Utility opened terminal and typed sudo root.
When I entered the password I set I just get "Sorry, try again". Have tried going back into Directory Utility and changing the password but get the same thing.
I can't use my MacBook air because that writing me that password is incorrect, but I'm sure that I'm typing a right password. I got many information that I need on that!
My now old MobileMe is not accepting my password, so I can't get in to manually change my account to iCloud on my 10.6.8. It doesn't give me the option to reset my password...I'm just denied access..
I have the correct password obviously because I'm logged in here. Haven't changed a thing recently but it stopped working. I have tried rebooting, using multiple WiFi networks, and various other things.
I have some contacts in my Address book that won't save any changes I make to them.
For example: Address book shows for a contact name. when I replace it with their real name and de-press the edit button, close out of the application and restart, none of my changes are saved.
I have just bought a macBook Pro running Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.0) and have attempted to connect to the internet via the AirPort to connect to my Wireless Router. I am already using the router/modem to connect my two other windows computers to the internet but when I try to connect using my MacBook it won't accept my password. I have tried all passwords used previously, but to no avail.
i have recently started to use Entourage, but when i try to access my Yahoo email it tells me that the username and password are incorrect. After double checking it problem continued. i used the [URL] for the pop server address and [URL] for the smtp address.
I have updated from Tiger to 10.5.5. Everything works well EXCEPT: my ISP will not accept word document attachments or iPhoto. It will accept Text Edit document attachments. Using my ISP's web mail site to compose an email has the same problem. What can I do to fix this?
iCloud mail is not working, not accepting my password, can't sign in on any iOS device or via iCloud.com, this is a nightmare as I am self employed and this is my primary email.
for some reason after the last time i did a shutdown the mac now does not start up. I enter the password ,( correctly , i checked for caps lock etc..) it seems to accept it and then it blinks and takes me back to the login . The same thing happens on the guest account I had set up. different password entered correctly. OS is the lastest 10.7 with all the updates.
However i have tried to download some software to use "face time" and it requires my password... I am 100% sure i am entering the correct password but it is not accepted, any ideas?
Simple, I have a file on the desktop and I want to copy it to a folder in my external drive.Â
The Problem Instead of pasting the file in the selected folder it is pasting it in the root directory. It does this with my external drive as well as my internal mac drive. Never have seen this before.

I've been having lots of issues with my iMac in the past week.Mail doesn't seem to be working correctly. I'll find messages that are many hours late. Messages that I see on my phone are not up to date on my iMac.We pages are showing up as script, no content, no pictures. Facebook shows up with no pictures.Memory isn't an issue and I've checked the internet connection and mail settings. I am also up to date with apple updates.

I have a mac pro running Leopard with Time Machine backup on an external 500GB FREECOM drive. My issue is that I cannot boot my mac while the drive is connect, because it seems it tries to boot from the external drive and it starts displaying a flashing folder with a question mark in it. So everytime I need to fire up my machine, I need to disconnect the external drive > boot > connect the external drive.
Valve Software this week quietly began accepting applications for a forthcoming beta program aimed at testing its highly-anticipated Steam for Mac online gaming service, several AppleInsider readers have discovered."We are going to conduct a closed beta for testing of the Mac client and Mac versions of Valve games," the company wrote on its website. "Participants will be selected to provide broad coverage of testing criteria. Please be honest in your answers as we need to test all types of users, systems, and software configurations."
My Mac Book Pro just stopped accepting commands, the screen is freezing on a black screen and the keys have no bearing on the situation. The only way I can get it to stop is pull the battery out. It has been acting funny lately.

I have an Apple Macbook from late 2006 that is running Leopard. My hard drive space has been disappearing for no apparent reason. I noticed the biggest jump this morning. Last night I had 9GB left on my Hard Drive. Now I have 3.7GB left. Can anyone explain why this is going on and/or how i could fix it?
I restarted my computer and i now have 6GB left. But i want to know where that other 3GB went.
When I leave iPhoto open for extended periods (which i'd like to do most of the time) it seems to hit the HDD pretty hard, constantly, slowing some stuff (particularly time machine backups!) considerably. I'm on an '08 imac, 2.8ghz, 4GB ram, 8800GT.. Snow Leopard.. It runs fine other than that.. I do have a 42GB library, 246 of the files are movies. A lot of the photos are RAW. Anyone experienced similar? And is there some way to stop it?
The default behaviour of Macs seems to be to wake up from sleep whenever a USB device is disconnected or switched off. This is not very helpful for how I like to operate. I want to keep most of my files on an external USB drive without power-down feature so that I have fast access to them at the click of a mouse button (don't want to wait for the drive to spin up as can happen frequently if your drive has the power-down feature). However, I like to sleep my Mac several times a day, and when doing so would like to switch off the external USB HD until I get back. So you see the annoyance, but perhaps there is a way to disable this wakeup feature of Leopard. I'd be happy to learn it from you!
I just added a 1 Terabyte drive for both backup and regular file storage. I partioned the drive so I would have a volume purely for backup. Backing up to the drive was taking forever, i searched and found index is the problem. I also found a couple ways to stop indexing. I utilized the touch function, but the .metadata_never_index doesn't seem to take at all. I have since utilized the sudo mdutil function for just the backup volume and this works. However..... Will this permanently leave indexing off on this volume? The drive backs up my laptop so it's disconnected frequently. Also does anyone have a guess to why the never index function didn't work? The syntax looked to be perfect.
My Imac has been running super slow and the hard drive will not stop writing. Current Specs running 10.7.3, 2.8 Ghz Intel i5, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3. I have had it for less than a year bought refurbed from the online store, I wiped the hard drive once before but it did not help at all, I am currently running parallels but the problem existed before that. I also have an external hard drive but makes no difference in whether it is hooked up or not
