Hardware :: Can The LED Cinema 27" Brightness Be Adjusted On A PC
Sep 30, 2010
The Anandtech review seemed to indicate that brightness settings on the new ACD27" are tied to BootCamp. Is anyone using the new ACD27" on a PC and is the brightness being locked an issue?
I recently got a Kanex 15' Mini DisplayPort/USB extension cable. I was a little nervous about the length but as I really needed about 11' I went with that over the 10' one. Well I do like the length but I might end up making do with the 10' one due to some "interesting" issues. The video that I was actually worried about has no issues at all, but the USB is quite a bit flakey at 15'. I've had to very carefully separate it so it is not running next to any power cables. I've also learned that the LED Cinema sends it's Brightness controls over the USB port and this is the first to flake out. Brightness control over USB also tends to flake out more if there is other traffic over USB such as using playing Music on the LED Cinema. Not sure if there are some better cables coming to market that support audio over DisplayPort and might also fix this issue. I quite like my setup even if I have to jiggle cables every now and then to get my brightness control on my monitor to work.
I have setup the 23i cinema display with mac pro. I have connected the USB and firewire cable to mac pro.. and keyboard is attached to back of the display. For some reason I cannot seem to adjust the brightness of the display from the keyboard (though I can do it from the side of the monitor). Neither can I see the brightness slider bar in the display settings. Also while the display is the the power led in the front blinks 3 times, then there is a little pause, and blinks 3 times again. How to fix this brightness control issue with the display. I have reseted PRAM and NVRAM... still nothing has changed. Also note I do not have and options tab for some reason.... (I have tried to plug the display's usb into the back 3 usb of the Macpro... still nothing)
Basically what I want to do is sync my Apple Cinema Display's brightness with my MacBook ambient light brightness control. So when the brightness of my MacBook changes because of ambient lighting, my secondary monitor changes with it. Is this possible? Is there a software that does this?
So, I installed Lion, but here's how I did it. Downloaded from Mac Store. Created new partition. Rebooted and installed the new OS on the new partition Booted into new partition and deleted the old one completely. Now this is all fine except now I only have 300GB from a 1TB drive.
As you can see from the screenshot, I cannot adjust the size of the partitions and when I delete the newly created partition (Macintosh HD) I still cannot make the partition larger in size. Did I do this the wrong way around?
My sound was working fine on my macbook pro until I plugged in my earbuds. Then the sound icon at the top of my screen turned grey, instead of black. It looks like this:
Also, whenever I click the volume button on my computer, a sign comes up that looks like this:
But then whenever I play music or a video on my computer, the sound still comes out! So in the end, it isn't really problem except I can't make the sound softer or louder or mute it. I already tried going on System Preferences and the sound is not on mute.
The brightness goes up when you plug in your MBA, but then over time it just goes up and up. I honestly like my brightness pretty low (rarely more than half, typically at 3-5 notches), but it just keeps on going up and up. I almost never set it above half, but multiple times a day, I notice that it looks pretty high and it's at like 3/4 so I put it it down to about 1/3, but after a while, it's just up again.
Anyone else notice this? What is it, why does it do this? How can I fix it? I don't mind not having auto-brightness (even though I loved it), as long as my screen doesn't keep going up.
I have a newly refurbished emac running the latest OSX 10.9.3. I used to be able to move images from iPhoto to the desktop and using Preview change the file size. I need to do this to upload images of a specific size to a website. Now Preview will not save the adjusted image size. I adjust the size from a 5 meg image to a 1.5 meg image but when I go to upload the image it is still 5 meg. I try saving it before closing it but it doesn't do anything (by the way I hate the new options or lack thereof when it comes to saving in Preview)
Is there a reason why the keyboard short cuts for volume is adjusted with the VERTICAL arrows knowing that the volume bar is HORIZONTAL and that the next song shortcut is with HORIZONTAL arrows knowing that the song are listed VERTICALLY?
Although I've been using using iTunes since the very beginning, I just cannot get used to this reverse logic...I often use it "live" for parties and so scared to switch song instead of volume that I keep using the trackpad instead!
So I installed Vista 64 bit on my Macbook Pro (Santa Rosa), I installed most of the drivers I can find, but I cant get the screen brightness buttons to work (F1 and F2)
I have dual ACD's. How do I make it so that both screens have the same brightness? If I adjust the brightness in the display settings it adjusts the main screen, but then not the other one. How do I make them the same?
I went to Best Buy yesterday and they just got the new imacs in and had on display side by side. The 21.5 display was not as bright and vibrant as the 27 display. The apple and best buy guys could not tell me why the difference. The settings were checked and found to be the same for both machines. I was going to get the 21.5 but now not so sure. I definitely like the brighter 27 better. Is this normal? Why is the 27 brighter? Has anyone else noticed the difference?
I am actually trying to decide if to get the old 30" cinema display or not.I'm a graphic designer and my fear is that apple will never make a matte display...Here in Italy it's still sold in the apple store. I have the unibody macbook pro, and so I've been reading through reviews now for a week ... my biggest concern is the dual-link dvi adapter... I still see posts (August or September 2010) with people experiencing issues, even with the firmware 1.3!I wanted to ask you people if I should go for it or dig the 27 inch even though it's glossy... I have a few people in the office (also graphic designers) working on iMacs and got used to the glossy.
I am thinking of updating my home studio setup which is currently running a Macbook pro 13" 2.26 with 4gb of ram. I was first thinking of upgrading to an iMac with a 3.06Ghz processor and 27" display. However, I now think I might be ok staying with my MacBook and upgrading to one of the two displays;- The 30" Cinema display- Or the 24" Cinema LED displayAt nearly half the price I am leaning towards the 24" display. I am using logic and ableton. What does everyone think and anyone had any experiences running logic and or ableton with a MacBook and display.
for my macbook pro, it has a button that will kill the keyboard light, then restore it when pressed again, i need a button, or an app with a hot key, that does the same thing for the LCD backlight, i often leave the machine on and that requires the lid being open, so i have to hold down the dim button until it goes out, then restore it the same way, so thats what im looking for any ideas?
OK so I didn't complain in 10.4 too much but why in the name of god they could't fix that issue in 10.5? You can click as much as you want in preferences and still after restart its coming back to defoult...I hate when my screen goes dark when power adapter is on. Anyone have this issue???
My Apple ADC Studio Display has decided to stop all of it USB ports from working and as anyone who knows about these monitors you need to connect the monitor to a USB port to get the Brightness control to work, are there any apps out there which can control the brightness of the monitor up or down. I have played around with Calibration but I still cannot change the brightness of the screen. I have searched around for some solutions but all I have found is brightness controls which turn down the brightness but do not allow you to adjust the brightness up
My Macbook Air is doing something pretty strange..
This is as far as my brightness will go up. This is using the keyboard brightness thing on F1 and F2. When I go into the system preferences, I can drag the brightness to the top, but as soon as I release the mouse, it automatically flicks back to where it was before without getting any brighter.
Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause?
The model number of my macbook is A1342 if that helps.
I recently bought a new Kensington Slimtype keyboard for my PowerMac G4 (dual 867mhz); it's running Leopard and everything other than this is working beautifully. For some reason, whenever it goes to sleep, it turns the brightness down to it's lowest setting - not a huge problem, I just turn it back up. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if they are, how did they rectify it?
I have a Macbook Pro 13.3 ", only a few months old. When I use this, whether I use the word, web surfing etc then adjust the brightness of the screen itself from strong to weak and back, all the time. This happens both when connected power and do not. And no, it's not that it goes into power saving mode, this occurs during use.
The brightness is turned all the way off on my MacBook pro and the only way to turn it back up is through system preferences. But I cant see it and everytime I push the brightness control keys it makes a beeping noise. And won't do work.
