OK so I didn't complain in 10.4 too much but why in the name of god they could't fix that issue in 10.5? You can click as much as you want in preferences and still after restart its coming back to defoult...I hate when my screen goes dark when power adapter is on. Anyone have this issue???
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. (I feel like I know a decent amount about my MBP and about a/v matters, so, I feel a bit dumb for not knowing the answer to this.)
I have an external monitor (Samsung 2223w) monitor connected to my MBP via DVI. The MBP is shut.
Is there a way that I can reduce the brightness of the external monitor quickly with software? Of course, I can manually reduce brightness by clicking the buttons on the side of the monitor and navigating through the menus. But is there a way that I can set a keystroke to do the same?
The brightness goes up when you plug in your MBA, but then over time it just goes up and up. I honestly like my brightness pretty low (rarely more than half, typically at 3-5 notches), but it just keeps on going up and up. I almost never set it above half, but multiple times a day, I notice that it looks pretty high and it's at like 3/4 so I put it it down to about 1/3, but after a while, it's just up again.
Anyone else notice this? What is it, why does it do this? How can I fix it? I don't mind not having auto-brightness (even though I loved it), as long as my screen doesn't keep going up.
So I installed Vista 64 bit on my Macbook Pro (Santa Rosa), I installed most of the drivers I can find, but I cant get the screen brightness buttons to work (F1 and F2)
I have dual ACD's. How do I make it so that both screens have the same brightness? If I adjust the brightness in the display settings it adjusts the main screen, but then not the other one. How do I make them the same?
I went to Best Buy yesterday and they just got the new imacs in and had on display side by side. The 21.5 display was not as bright and vibrant as the 27 display. The apple and best buy guys could not tell me why the difference. The settings were checked and found to be the same for both machines. I was going to get the 21.5 but now not so sure. I definitely like the brighter 27 better. Is this normal? Why is the 27 brighter? Has anyone else noticed the difference?
I sincerely have no idea how to describe this, but... FF users, is it just me or does smooth scrolling feel laggy? Especially when compared to Safari, which has this really nice preciseness to it when you're scrolling with the Macbook Pro trackpad. Does anybody know how to reduce the lag?
I already know about reducing file size through print pdf, but from my experience this has not done too much to actually reduce the size. I was wondering if there is any other way to do this that is similarly easy and free? More importantly, how about the ability to reduce a word document or text edit without converting the file into a pdf? I have massive word files and would really like to reduce the size they take up, but really do not want to lose the ability work in the document
I have one two-hour file in mp3 format and one three-hour file. These are radio shows, so no music or anything, just talking. Now that I have the files, I want to get them as small as possible without making them unlistenable. What program can I use to reduce them?
Is anyone else having problems enlarging an image or reducing it? When I first got my Aluminum Macbook, it seemed easier. Now it either goes too big or too small.
Not sure if it my camera or my computer (more than likely the operator) but when I go to send pictures the picture size is so large that I can only send one at a time and even then some people can not receive them. What do I need to do to reduce the size of the pictures?
I recently purchased a secondhand macbook pro with os x 10.5. The only problem is that it's filled with the previous users junk (about 70% of which is porn, lmao). I would like to do sort of a wholesale delete and reduce the HD down to just the OS.
This wouldn't be a problem if I had the actual DVD, but unfortunatley the one he gave me is damaged beyond repair. I don't have the money to buy a new copy and I can't bring myself to pirate mp3's let alone an operating system.
In short, is there a way to restore the OS to factory condition without the use of the OEM dvd.
I'm wondering if there is a way to reduce the minimum sound volume on osx. I have the feeling that the gap from mute (zero volume, not the "mute" key) to the first level is huge, like 0-25%, and then the 15 others increase only gradually, and I'd like to sorta "recalibrate" this...
I have a new mid-2009 iMac 24 inch 2.66GHz. I work in a quiet environment and most of the time the computer is idling along. iStat returns the following fan speeds: CPU 1200 HDD 1600 ODD 800
Even when I drive the iMac a bit harder - 100% CPU for an hour and a half - the temps only rise as follows: CPU 60 C Northbridge 68 C Power Supply 71 C and the fan speeds do not increase.
I value silence, and it seems to be unnecessary for the fans to running at this speed when they are not needed most of the time - when the computer is not under any load. With the iMac everything is right in front of your face. I heard about iMac Fan Control and installed it, but there is no possibility to set lower-than-standard fan speeds, except for the HD which can be set to 1200 instead of 1600. However, the ODD minimum speed increases to 1000 from 800.
My 'right-click' window has become huge and unwieldy because of a Canon website link at the end that I can't find a way to get rid of (see attached image).
How do I remove or shorten this link (I'd prefer to totally remove it)?
I was wondering if there are any ways to lower system temperature on MBP? My machine would get hot (particular the left side) even though I am just doing simple tasks like surfing and word processing.
I went to Apple store yesterday. I want a new MBA badly. Only problem is the memory of current model is 2G only not expandable. The guy in the shop has no idea when new MBA will be released.
I was looking at new 13" or 15" Macbook Pro, I like it, and wonder since I don't use DVD that much, is it possible to take the drive out and reduce weight a lot?
I have an Mid-2009 13 Inch Macbook pro. I decided to upgrade my memory to 4 gigs using thirdparty memory. However, I have noticed that the amount of Wired memory usage has gone up a quite bit. My Wired memory usuage usually goes as much as 900 mbs and this is outrageous because I don't particularly open any major applications. My Kernel Task right now sits at 397 MBs, which is huge as well.
I find that with one firefox or chrome browser open, I can easily use over 90% of my 4 gig ram and that's when watching you tube becomes very difficult 9freezes a lot.I understand that I never had this problem with Windows, or even when I run bootcamp.
Here is a print out of my processes:
Active Memory: 1.91 GB Free Memory: 1.02 GB Wired Memory: 853.4 MB Used Memory: 2.98 GB

Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Mid 2009 13 inch
I am having trouble getting a mail pdf attachment to be accepted by my server. I am looking for a way to reduce the digital size of the pdf (report) so that it will be a size acceptable to my server (tds). How can that be done? What steps should I take?
Info: MacBook, iOS 5.1.1, also have a new desktop MAC
Is there a way to reduce the size of icons, in a folder's panel shown in the Dock? What I mean is this: The icons in the Dock itself are okay, but when I click on the Apps folder which is standing in the Dock, its content is shown as a huge panel of large icons. The icon size is exagerated to my taste. I didn't found any options about this, in the Dock preferences control panel. Can we change the icon size there?
I zipped a .doc file to upload to a job website as the file size was too large (would only accept 100kb max). Now it tells me that the .zip file ext will not be accepted by the website and so I tried to change the file name in the hope that this would be accepted. Unfortunately it does not seem to want to upload this and I am a bit stuck on solutions. I cannot reduce the file size by removing some info from the document as you can understand.
