Hardware :: Can My Old PC External Speakers Be Used On An IMac
Sep 8, 2010I have Harmon Kardon speakers with a subwoofer that I used on my old PC; it used a Soundblaster card. Can I use the system on the iMac? If so, how?

View 7 Repliesthe external speakers (and the earphones) I use for my i-mac suddenly stopped playing sound from my imac. They do work though when I plug them to the i-pod. My imac speakers work perfectly. Any ideas what's happening?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter re-arranging my set-up, I suddenly have no sound from my external speakers (JBL Creature II). After the first panic, I figured I would try with my MBP. Odly, they work just fine with that. Then i tried with my headphones from my iPhone - no sound at alle. I?ve resetted PR-RAM (twice), and is now stocked - and pissed.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have just bought the Acoustic Energy Aego sat/sub speakers for my 24" iMac...and excellent they are too. A huge improvement on the built in speakers. However, I occasionally get an electronic 'pop' or crackle from the satellites. Only happens occasionally. If I plug the speakers in to my iPod (2nd gen) all is perfect, so I assume the iMac is picking up interference from the mains or network and passing it on. I assume my options are to try a better gangway adapter (or UPS) with noise filtering, or perhaps (but this seems a bit overkill) a USB audio output device rather than using the iMac audio out. I cannot begin to describe just how much better the AE Aego's are, but the interference is annoying...

This happened after I unplugged speakers from outputand plugged in headphones. After done, when I pluggedspeakers back in it stopped working. Headphones no longer
work either. Internal speakers still do, though.I went into preferences and sounds. The external speakers are no longer showing up. Built in output is the only option available. I unplugged everything and turned everything off. Plugged them back in and turned the mac back on. Nothing.
With my iMac, I have Swan M10 external speakers that I love. I also like to use headphones sometimes.
My currrent solution for switching from speakers to headphones (or vice versa) involves physically turning the computer, disconnecting one input in the headphone jack, and putting in the other one.
External speakers stopped working. Verified speakers operating with Iphone. Checked that speakers plugged in correctly. Tried usual power cycling step. External speakers do not show up in sound preferences.

Imac 27" mid-2011 running Maverics 10.9.3 I'm not getting any sound from internal or ext. speakers. I can hear the startup sound when booting up.
System Preferences->Sound only shows Digital Out for OUTPUT and Output Volume is maxed and can't be adjusted. Mute is NOT checked.
I've done an SMC and PRAM reset with no change. I've tried multiple times plugging and unplugging the external speaker cable jack.
I hope I'm not double posting. Have any of the other new iMac owners experienced weird frequencies coming from external speakers that are connected to their iMacs?
For example: I have a set of studio monitors that are hooked up to my iMac using a firewire audio interface. Whenever I'm copying data I get an extremely high-pitched frequency coming from my speakers that sounds like my hard drive spinning. Also, whenever I'm scrolling or moving the magic mouse I get a loud buzzing coming from the speakers (especially when scrolling). None of this stuff happened with my previous 20" iMac C2D. I have experienced this issue with all three of the 27" iMacs that I have gone through thus far (due to the yellow tint issue). Does this sound like something I'm just going to have to live with. All of these high pitched frequencies are driving me batty!
My new 25" HP 2510i monitor arrived today, all is good except from the speaker system, I can either have the iMac's built in speakers used or the built in monitor speakers used. Is it possible to combine them both and use both?
The monitor's audio interface connects to my iMac via the headphone jack on the back of the system.
Can't access external headphone or external speakers. Choice disappeared on output, still there for input.

i'm hoping someone can help me out on this little problemmy usual set up is a pair of speakers connected with jacks via an m-audio usb audio interface, with an external monitor connected via mini-dvi to dvi.now for some reason my audio interface has randomly broken (on a side note, could a power cut have somehow broken a usb peripheral connected to my macbook whilst it was asleep?) so i've hooked up my speakers to the line out to rca. Now for some reason, when i plug the mini dvi connector into my macbook i get an incredible amount of hum. not just a little, alot!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date. Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue: After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes. The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect. If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.
When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility. You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.
I had audio coming out my external speakers.
Then I fiddled with both Soundflower and Audacity for some audio recording.
I have since then uninstalled both but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get audio coming out my external speakers again.
Everything is coming thru my imac speakers.
Apple>Sys Pref> Sound> give me no options to direct audio to external speakers.
I have bought a set of external wireless speakers to listen to iTunes while outside. If I plug my iPod into the wireless transmitter jack they work great. The problem is getting the speakers to work using iTunes on my iMac. If I plug the wireless transmitter jack into the headphones socket of the iMac I get no sound.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Logitech Z4speakers which have worked just fine, but suddenly (after itunes 8.1.1 upgrade and 10.5.6 upgrade) they no longer show up in sys prefs. I see that this is not an unknown problem, but I can't find a solution anywhere!
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to Lion, there seems to be very little sound coming from my external speakers. Speakers work with other devices but not so much with MacBook Pro. In iTunes, the volumn slider is maxed out with the speaker volumn on the keyboard maxed out too. Used to blast out the house, but not now.
Don't know if it's as a result of the upgrade or not. I did a PRAM reset but still nothing.

Party tomorrow night. I can stream music from my Imac computer to Apple TV (attached to my hifi system).
I'd like to have the imac speakers (external speakers) playing at the same time as the applt TV speakers. Seems that's possible in itunes by simply selecting both speakers.... however....
There is a sync issue.
The Apple TV is probably 1/3 second out of sync with the imac. I'm going to hardwire the apple TV to the router (the Mac is already hardwired to a router) which should help.
I've tried wireless connection from Mac to router to Apple TV and it makes the delay worse. Seems I really need to somehow insert a delay the signal frmo the Mac to the Mac's external speakers....
Is that even possible or am I wasting my time thinking about using both speaker systems concurrently?

Mac OS X (10.7.1)
Just set up a new Mac Pro (8-core) and plugged in my old M-Audio powered speakers (about 10yrs old but still going strong!). I use a mini-jack splitter cable that outputs stereo RCA to the speakers, plugged into the speaker port on the nMP. There is a constant, low hum coming out of one of the speakers; it sounds a little like CPU noise and it is NOT affected by volume settings from the Mac or the speaker knob. It's the right-side speaker which is unpowered, connected to the left unit via speaker wire (the left unit has the power switch and audio inputs and is not affected.)
I've tried moving the speaker wire up and away from power cables (two Dell monitors directly next to the speakers) but that doesn't work; it doesn't sound quite like a DC hum anyway though. The speakers aren't heavily shielded (they usually pick up interference from an iPhone placed too close) so maybe it's always going to be an issue. I used to have them plugged into a 2006 Mac Pro via an analog mixer which I've removed from the chain.
I have my G5 set up with a harmon kardon speakers and all is fine. From my office there are cables to another room where I can attach speakers. I know that I could have used airport extreme to connect other speakers but can anyone tell me how I can connect the other speakers (via) the cable to my mac. I would like to be able to hear the same music in this room.

Does anyone know how one can use both the internal laptop speakers AND the external speakers connected through the 3.5mm audio port? My speakers are spread around the room and this would be a good way to get a more '3D feel' of the music.
I have my MBP connected to the internet using my WIFI at home (wich is still windows operated, I'm sorry)
I have bought the airport express in order to listen to I tunes music through my marantz loudspeakers. The AE is installed and shows a green light, i tunes however doesn't show the antenna symbol and there no way I can select external audio.
I've just purchased a new sr macbook pro 2.4 ghz. when i plug the macbook pro to external speakers, the quality is really bad, no bass, just high tones. I allready checked the equalizer in Itunes and I turned the bass all the way up, but the sound was still horrible...
When I connect my macbook pro to a tv (via dvi to video adaptor) The sound of the external speakers goes even worse. The adapter causes like a weird tone in the bass...
does anyone know how to fix this?
One of the problems that myself and i'm sure many others have come across is getting audio to go to external speakers via the audio jack.
When i plug it in it says a device has been plugged into the audio jack and when i go into it, it brings up the line in tab, so just wondering if there was a solution yet or do we just have to put up with inbuilt speakers on our macs?
Okay, So i have my Unibody Macbook Pro (late 2009) hooked up to external speakers (RCA Home Theater system with a standard audio cable). Everything works fine and there is no buzz or sound except for the music of course until I plug my printer in. I know the obvious solution is to unplug the printer when listening to music but the printer is shared and other people print off of it etc. and I was wondering if anyone knew why this happens.
