View 4 RepliesI have a 13" 2010 MBP. When my headphones are plugged into the jack, and no sound is being outputted, the headphone jack seems to "turn off". If I want to do something that outputs a sound, like emptying the trash, there is a 3 second delay from when the trash is emptied to when the sound is played.

just making sure I reach out to all potentially helpful forums (just posted iPod.tune forum) here's my sad story: $400 Shure earbuds went out in one channel for the entire warranty period (2 yers) I think they replaced them 3 times. I was so frustrated I recently bought the Sennheiser IE8. In less than a month the sound seriously diminished in both channels, especially the left. Yes, I can return them under warranty but my Q is: why is this happening. I'm a librarian, not using them in a sports environment. I wear the buds around my neck with the iPod in holder......do you think I keep causing these dysfunctions or what?

I have had this issue with my address book for a while in that it creates new entries with just an email address as the actual entry and then hundreds of other email addresses from address book as this entry's additional email addresses.
At the same time I had an issue with Apple Mail that I thought was unrelated but now I am not that sure anymore. When I turn Apple Mail on, it sends out emails that look like an endless chain of responses (spam) to the same email that advertises all kinds of stuff.
When I first noticed the issue I turned Mail off (a year ago). After updating to Lion I tried to use mail again but had the same issue and have not been using it since. But I appear to still find new entries in my address book all the time.
I ran some software (ClamX) but wasn't able to find any malware so far. I can't imagine someone hacking into my machine and doing all this my hand. For what?
So I am wondering whether anyone has had similar symptoms on their Mac?

On my 2.66 GHz iMac, I can't get it to accept input from the mic that's part of my headphones. I have gone to Sound in the System Preferences and changed from the Internal Microphone to the Line In selection (see pic) but I get nothing. What am I doing wrong?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI seam to be having a problem with my head phone not working when I plug it int he head phone jack on the Mac Pro. Every time I try, it either play out of the internal speaker or directly out to my Karmon Soundstick II speaker. I try going to the preferences change sound output but doesn't seam to work?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI looked in the Sounds preference pane in System Preferences, but there is no option to override this. I want the computer to use the built-in mic on my MacBook Pro, but I want to be able to use my headphones (which have a built in microphone). I have to hold the mic up to my mouth practically, but with the built in mic I don't have to. I have played with the input volume in System Preferences for each option; still doesn't work how I like it. This is for video chat in iChat.

I am considering making the switch from PC to Mac, the desktop switch is easy, I would simply replace my Dell with an iMac, but I also need a portable computer (running OS-X not iOS) to replace my netbook. I will be using it for Internet access, light audio editing and streaming with Audacity, QuickTime and VLC (Ogg, FLAC, etc), some light spreadsheet work (I will switch to Numbers), heavy writing (I will switch to Pages), Sykpe, iCal, Mail, and Google Earth. I need to check the output of the headphone/lineout port, to see if it can drive the monitors that I use for linguistics. (16 Ohm Beyerdynamic DT100 and 24 Ohm Sony MDR-XB700). I have looked around but I cannot find any detailed specifications for the headphone/lineout on the MacBook Air 11.6, the Apple Technical Specifications simply list the port as "Headphone Minijack". If any of you have low impedance headphones with large drivers and could spare the time to plug them in and let me know what the volume is like.

View 20 Replies View RelatedIts been going for a while now and finally the right channel of audio has fully cut out from the headphone jack. This is a huge bummer. I mean the laptops 3 years old so its not to bad. I mean its taken a beating over the years. Its just that I use it to listen to music and audio out for watching dvds, so its no good for that anymore. I have an external audio card but thats no good for when I am mobile and I use the laptop all over the place. Is there a way to fix this or would it need a whole logic board replacement? Can I use a audio card that fits into those card slots on the left hand side of the Powerbook. What are those cards called again?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a Headroom Headphone Total Bithead mobile Amp., 2.66 MacPro, and Sennheiser HD650's (that are hard to drive). The amp. has a high and low gain switch. The low gain sounds better, but I can't get enough vol. when on low gain. I've got iTunes level up as high as it can go. I've played around with Sound prefs. and the Audio/Midi sound levels. They all seem to actually be the same vol. control.
I also see that iTunes, under "Get Info" has an individual vol. adjustment, but I'm not sure if I really want the sound files to be pumped up for when I use them on my iPhone.
I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro and while I think it's cool that I can use iPhone headphones with it I miss using my old school analog headset with a boom. I use skype for calls and find that people have a hard time hearing me with iPhone headphones. Is anyone aware of a splitter for that jack so that I can connect a headphone line and a mic line? I've seen lots of solutions that have a built in mic but I was hoping that there's simply a splitter out there somewhere.

The problem now is my headphone jack does not work. I have my MBP closed with externals plugged and only to have the internal speakers working.
I upgraded to 10A432 last week. Today I plug in my headphones and to my surprise they dont work. If the headphones are plugged in audio comes out of computer speaker. Under Sound in Syspref it doesn't see the headphone. My mac is still under the 90 day warranty but I am studying in Purdue and don't know where the nearest apple store is.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI went to plug my headphones into my Macbook and I noticed that the tip of the plug was glowing red, when I turned to look at the side of the computer I nonticed that there was a red light being emitted from the headphone port and the sound icon on the menu bar was grayed out. Is there actually a light in there? What does it mean? I'm uploading pictures right now, they'll be up in a few minutes. My MacBook is a late-2007 White MacBook running 10.6.1.

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust wondering does anybody else have a problem with the bad connection from the headphone jack on their Mac? It won't hold in any jack i plug into it and plays audio through the internal speakers unless the connection is pushed right in. It's not exactly the worst thing that could go wrong with your Mac but very annoying all the same!
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy 13" 4 year old macbook's headphone jack hasn't been working for the last week. I had been using a messed up cord (the adaptor part was bent) to plug it into speakers, and eventually it misplaced or bent something in the headphone jack. This is the important part, the headphone jack still works. If i put in headphones and push the headphone connector thing (sorry I don't know the word) forward (towards the screen) it recognizes and works. This leads me to believe the headphone jack has been knocked out of place or there is something bent in there. Is there any potential fix because I have a lot of plane flights coming up and don't want to be stuck with just the music on my iPod.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a pair of in ear headphones, Shure SE530's, to use with my Macbook Pro. The problem is that it has a very low impedance rating so even at 2 ticks on the volume, the sound level in the headphones would almost be deafening. I know that the internal speakers and headphones have different volume settings but I was wondering if there was a way to cap the headphone volume range similar to a ipod limiter. Where if I cap the headphone volume at like 6 ticks, it'd stretch out the whole range from mute to that level?
