Hardware :: AEBS On Company Network (with Guest Feature)

Jan 6, 2010

We're looking to install 3 WAP in our new office. The alternative to a AEBS set up would be Cisco's WAP4410N WAP. It's a smaller office (about 35 people), but we'll be divided amongst three floors, so 3 separate devices. It's a PC server with mostly PC devices connecting to the wireless network. I'd like to have an integrated wireless network, which I know the AEBS can do. I also like the dual-band function of the AEBS, since there are plenty of older machines that are used in the office. But what I really like about it is the Guest feature.

Our clients are usually just allocated to one area (like conference rooms) in the past, but now they are somewhat dispersed through out. Having the Guest network extend everywhere that the Company network is would be great, and we wouldn't have to buy secondary WAPs to do this. However, the router/firewall function would have to be turned off on the AEBS so that our main DC was still handing out IPs, and I don't know if this or bridging the three AEBS together would remove the functionality of the Guest feature.

Hardware :: Guest Network Feature On Time Capsules?

Jan 17, 2010

I have the original Time Capsule, so I can't try this out. I have a Nintendo DS which cannot access WPA encrypted networks, so I wondered if I could get a newer Time Capsule and create a guest network for the DS which would be encrypted by WEP.I saw something that said guest networks could only use WPA or WPA2, so that is why I am wondering.

Hardware :: Guest Sharing Alternative In Older AEBS

Aug 3, 2009

So I have an AEBS that's about 1.5 yrs old. I really like the guest sharing application for a current set up I'd like to make, but I realize that it's not available with my model. Essentially, there is someone that lives in the apartment below me that wants to share the internet with me. I could use the extra cash, but I have all my media and data connected to my AEBS. Now I realize that you can password protect your HDs (which I do) but I really just don't want my neighbor on my network. Are there any alternatives? I have an old 802.11g Airport Express that I was going to connect wirelessly to the AEBS so my printer could connect to it, so that may be an option. What set ups or suggestions do you all have?

OS X :: Guest Account Feature On Leopard

Feb 2, 2010

I really like the guest account feature that Leopard (and I'm assuming Snow Leopard) provides. I just got my first Macbook Pro, about a year old running Leopard, part of a client deal (you Mac people just got another application developer interested ). I am getting rid of a few of my other computers on craigslist in the coming weeks and my girlfriend always wants to check her facebook. I'd prefer not to have her accidentally close something important so I setup & configured the guest account. I installed the server admin tools to fully customize the dock/etc.

Two questions however:
1: Thus far the guest account cannot access HTTPS (secure sites) websites. Not in Safari or Google Chrome. I've tried googling for about 30 minutes and have come up blank.
2: Without overwriting the default profile setup (incase I ever want to create new profiles). Is there a way to set a few default things for the Guest user? For instance, I know it wipes everything on close. I want it to remember that Google Chrome & Safari have run before (annoying that it asks "do you want this to be the default browser?. Or running the initial safari video).

OS X :: New AEBS - Network Connecting Macbook 2.4 Running OS 10.5.6

Mar 12, 2009

I just got the new AEBS and I set up a new network connecting my Macbook 2.4 running os 10.5.6. I am trying to share the printer with my pc. All the instructions say its real easy and all I have to do is install Bonjour for Windows located on the Airport Utility CD. I can't find that software anywhere. I installed airport utility on the pc but I can't figure out how to share this printer. Also, there now seems to be a clock counting time next to the airport symbol on the top of my screen. What is that all about?

Hardware :: Set Up A Guest Network With 1st Gen TC + Router?

Mar 6, 2009

My current setup is a first gen TC running at 802.11n 5GHz with a Linksys WRT54GS in bridge mode broadcasting 802.11b/g. Both are WPA2 networks, and the setup has been great so far.

When the new AEBS/TC came out, I was looking at the guest network capability and that's got me wondering if there's any way I can create such a network with my setup. I would love to have a network for my DS and PSP to be able to join and would preferably like to have it unsecured to avoid connection issues.

I'm well aware that my TC doesn't have the proper hardware to do that by itself, but is there any way I can create a guest network to allow access to the Internet but not any networked computers on the main network? Would I need a seperate router to do this, or would my current setup be sufficient? What settings would I need, or can this even be done?

Come to think of it, would it just be easier for me to setup an additional gateway using a third router, hide the SSID and have it unsecured? (Although I'd be afraid of compromising my network's security with this method.)

OS X :: No Access For Network Connection For Guest Account

Mar 1, 2010

After creating a guest account I noticed that anyone uses that account can use my (remembered) secured network connection. Normally, in my network settings, remembering used networks option is checked. When I look into the keychain, I see two entries for my network name. One is in my logins section and the other is in the system section. I suppose, the guest uses the entry which is in the system section. If I delete the entry which is in system section, it is been created again on next connection.

If I do not want any guest to use my network connection, I am having to cancel the remembering used network option and select disconnect on logging out option in airport advanced settings. But; if do this, I am having to select my network and type its password every time I login. I simply want if a guest uses the Guest Account, he wouldn't able to use my network connection without entering the correct password. Is it possible?

OS X :: Any Way To Allow Temporary WiFi Access (Guest Network)

Sep 6, 2010

I have an Airport Extreme base station and am curious if there is anyway to allow temporary access to my wifi signal its configured with a WPA passcode. I have neighbors that come over and use my wifi but then continue to use it when they return to their homes, is there anyway for me to allow them temporary access or create some kind of guest network that I could turn off when they leave? I HATE having to change the administrative password when they leave because I have to re-enter it on all of my devices.

Hardware :: New Time Capsule - Dual Network - ONLINE FILE SHARE And Guest Networking

Mar 3, 2009

1. Dual networking. You can run N on 5.0 ghz and at the same time run A/B/G whatever on 2.4 ghz for legacy devices such as the iPhone. No speed hit.

2. Easy to use guest mode which will open up one of the frequencies for use as a password less (optionally you can add a password) access to the net but locking off your computers, printer etc. on the other encrypted frequency. Great for having friends over and getting them on your network without having to open it up to attack or having to give out huge passwords for them to enter.

3. If you have MobileMe then the new Time Capsule FILE SHARES EVERYTHING OFF THE ENTIRE DRIVE TO THE NET!

Applications :: What Is The Best Business Software For My Company

Mar 16, 2009

I own a small lighting rental company that rents mainly to the film industry. I am looking for some software that will assist in making invoices as well as to keep our business more organized in general (accounting, expenses, etc).

My main issue right now is that I spend all day writing up invoices manually. One piece of equipment may contain 20 accessories (all with different rental rates) so I really need a program that has excellent "autofill" functions within it's invoicing. Some of my competitors use "Peachtree" but I don't believe they make one for MAC. I would prefer not to have to run something on Virtual PC.

The other factor is that I have only one other business partner who runs the company with me. Since we often bring in jobs through our two remote workstations (laptops) we need software that we can synch together throughout the day. Basically, we need our two laptops to be in communication so that whatever expenses/invoices/etc my partner enters into his laptop will be reflected on my computer as well.

MacBook Pro :: Company Which Will Coat Top Case Black?

Apr 4, 2012

I type with two fingers and must look often at the keyboard. My three year old Black MacBook is easy on the eyes.  Because it's all black, no problem looking at the keyboard. The MacBookPro has the shiny metal on the top case and around the keys.   Because of retinal fatigue when looking at the KB, one gets afterimages and it's uncomfortable to look at contrasting items.  I'm still using only a three year old black Mac Book for this reason.   It's just wrong to have shiny bright metal reflecting in one's face.

Is there a company which will make the metallic top of the MBP be black ?   If not, muliple black electrical tapestrips would be cheap short-term solution. Because Apple is not contemplating a Black MacBookPro.
