I burned a BD-R disc with Final Cut Pro X from the "share" command. Everything looks like it worked. The burner/player is a Samsung SE-506AB/TSBD (a portable burner with a USB plug.) I'm receiving an "unable to open file" from the Quicktime player app. The directory in Finder shows the BD file as AVCHD content. Do I need a separate app? If so, which is it?

I´m cutting music videos and while the external video (BM Intensity Extreme via HDMI) is only delayed 2-3 frames, it is virtually useless...
Basically i started a new project on final cut, just as always my import settings remained the same as i always use. My playback screen in the window and full screen plays back footage that does not fit the screen, i also exported a sample and the same thing happened where the video does not fit the screen.

When trying to playback the timeline, for what ever reason... crash! Doesn't happen all the time, and not for any particular reason. Also, when I tried to export the project, it got to that magic 7% and crashed. Export settings were as follows:
-Quicktime Conversion
-H.264
-FR 30
-Limit:2500 KBs
-Key Frame Every 30
-Custom Res:872x480

When I export the sequence I edited with quicktime, the playback video is very different from what I edited on the timeline. The playback has the clips with ins and outs that are way off than what I cut, and some of the clips don't show at all or have changed transitions. However when I play in the timeline in FCP, the sequence is fine, just the way I cut it.
The source of the clips was one long .mov that I cut into clips for the timeline. Everything has gone smoothly but the exported .mov is just so different. How can I get the time codes of the clips to be the same in the exported .movs? I just want the quicktime .mov to represent my edit exactly. can I play within the FCP player window and Log and Capture?

In FCPX 10.1.3 I was able to set in Preferences the Playback Quality to High Quality. I just purchased FCPx 10.1.4. It has NO such High Quality Option for Playback Quality.
Now all my still clips are blurred badly. Is there an option to set a High Quality Playback Option. Or can I download 10.1.3, the level where that worked ?

I have 12x3 minute music videos (about 300 mb. each) which I want to burn onto one DVD.
I am unsure of the correct method. I have tried using Toast but it didn't work.
The 12 videos have all been exported using Quicktime conversion and were shot in HDV
I have never been able to understand the setting up of scratch discs when working from multiple external HDDs? I am using final cut pro 7 to edit 2 projects at the moment, each of which are on separate external hard drives.
I was under the impression that you set the scratch disc folder on the imac itself and obviously set up the projects to direct to that folder. Is this true? Do ALL fcp projects go to same folder?
What I am also confused about is whether or not I should be setting separate scratch disc folders for each project in each external HDD? I need to take my HDDs home to use on MacBook Pro, I'm currently editing on iMac.
I set up scratch folder in one of the HDDs and finished the project and then set up new project and new scratch disc in other HDD and it appears to keep the setting for both projects!?

Please take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.

Well, my question is very simple: I have a MBA and this other laptop from work, a crappy HP which is old as hell. I'm planning to use Remote Disc to reinstall my Leopard, since the upgrade to 10.5.3 really screwed things here, and I can't figure out why. Point is: instead of running all Leopard installation thru Remote Disc, I would prefer to share Leopard disc 1 over Remote Disc and restore it to a partition on my external HD, making a clone of it, which would install *much* faster. Has anyone tried anything like this? There's any Windows program which allows me to rip a Mac DVD to a Mac partition?

My G-4 startup disc is full and now the computer won't start up. I am told to put a startup disc in the drive and restart from it, but I cannot get the disc drive to open. I have tried everything, including copying over to external hard drive. I read that if you hold the mouse button down, the disc drive will open, but this hasn't worked.

When I tried to install it, it just spins the disc for a minute, makes the noise like it's trying to read it and then spits it out. All other discs work fine with my MBP so I know it is not the disc drive itself. I have all software "up to date." My brother installed SL on both of his MBs, one newer than mine and one older, just fine (with the same disc). I haven't seen anything out there with this issue so I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone knows how to resolve this issue (beyond taking it back to Apple and exchanging).

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo last night, my Macbook started to show a folder icon with a question mark on it when I tried to boot it up. I tried to restart a couple different ways, using the Install disc, and when nothing worked, decided to reinstall OS X entirely.
Well, after the first disk finished installing, it said to restart the computer and be prepared with disc 2. Unfortunately, after the restart, I just get a blank gray screen, while my optical drive makes short repetitive noises.
Any advice on how to get the reinstall to work right?
For some reason my opitcal drive wont let me insert any disc. theres nothing in it cause when i tried to put a disc in it wouldnt hit anything!? i have no idea. If it helps i have a macbook, i bought in early 2009, Mac OSX 10.5.8!

I am trying to burn a DVD of files I want to back up from my computer, and it gives me this error when I try to burn a DVD from the folder that my files are in. Finder gives no mention that there is a DVD in the DVD-drive, but it does pop-up with a message recognizing that a DVD was inserted initially. My drive has been working fine in the past, so this is something that has just recently happened to my computer. Does anyone have any ideas about this? My computer specifications are in my signature below and I'm running leopard 10.5.6.
The specific error message that I get is this "the disc could not be used because the disc drive is not supported." I did a google of this, but the results turned up stuff relating to 10.3 and 10.4, neither of which being relevant to my situation

When playing a quicktime file (ie. 720x480 pxls / 30fps) it stalls and the playback looks more like a choppy 10 frames per second. Smaller dimensions (320x240) look fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedGood evening, all. I searched the forum but didn't see anything related to what I'm asking. Does anyone have any problems playing back DVDs? I have to remember to take DVD player out of full-screen playback because it will sometimes freeze and I have to power down. In addition, sometimes while I'm viewing a DVD de-interlaced, the screen is garbled. Switching the de-interlacing off gives me the picture back. I took a picture of what it looked like the one time it locked up on me.

These avi videos play fine my on pc (in windows media player and real player-with sound). However, on my mac, the video is displayed but no sound. The video is played, but there is no sound (just crackling). I have tried realplayer, quicktime, divx and vlc. I have downloaded perian, but this has made no difference. In quicktime, the video is displayed, but no sound. In VLC, there is video, with crackling sound. I have about eight videos and none of them have sound on the mac.
