Mac Pro :: Unable To Get QT Playback
Jan 2, 2009When playing a quicktime file (ie. 720x480 pxls / 30fps) it stalls and the playback looks more like a choppy 10 frames per second. Smaller dimensions (320x240) look fine.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Get I7 Video Playback
Oct 20, 2010I purchased it in June and have had this issue from the start. I am getting some artifacting/ghosting effects on the screen at times when watching videos. It happens 3-4 times during an hour or so of playback and resolves itself within a few seconds each time. The effect looks similar to that of poor encoding or something along those lines which is what I thought it was at first, until I tried playing videos that I knew for a fact didn't have this problem. The video pretty much freezes or colors get inverted in some areas, but the audio is not affected. Let me know if you need any additional details.

Aug 3, 2010I'm using a 15" 2.33 GHz Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro, with 3GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM, with Snow Leopard. Western Digital 320GB 7200 drive.
I've recently been having video playback issues, starting within Final Cut Pro. The clip will play fine at first but then stutter and freeze on and off. I have to constantly stop and play to get through it.

Apr 20, 2010Other than Itunes 9.1 breaking outlook syncing on my ipod touch, I cannot close a video when it is running. The X with a circle around it does not close the video anymore. I have to hit escape every time. A reinstall also did not help.

When trying to playback the timeline, for what ever reason... crash! Doesn't happen all the time, and not for any particular reason. Also, when I tried to export the project, it got to that magic 7% and crashed. Export settings were as follows:
-Quicktime Conversion
-H.264
-FR 30
-Limit:2500 KBs
-Key Frame Every 30
-Custom Res:872x480

Jul 14, 2010I've seen many saying that they have payback problems on youtube watching HD videos. But my problem is that the video that I'm streaming, regardless of quality, will often stop while streaming [however the audio continues], then all of a sudden the video fast forwards to catch up to the audio that it is currently playing.

MacBook :: DVD Playback - Sometime Freeze?
Aug 30, 2010Good evening, all. I searched the forum but didn't see anything related to what I'm asking. Does anyone have any problems playing back DVDs? I have to remember to take DVD player out of full-screen playback because it will sometimes freeze and I have to power down. In addition, sometimes while I'm viewing a DVD de-interlaced, the screen is garbled. Switching the de-interlacing off gives me the picture back. I took a picture of what it looked like the one time it locked up on me.

Dec 20, 2010I am new to this forum and have only just brought a MacBook. I transferred video from my mini dv camcorder to my pc using firewire. The data was recorded as an avi. These avi videos play fine my on pc (in windows media player and real player-with sound). However, on my mac, the video is displayed but no sound. The video is played, but there is no sound (just crackling). I have tried realplayer, quicktime, divx and vlc. I have downloaded perian, but this has made no difference. In quicktime, the video is displayed, but no sound. In VLC, there is video, with crackling sound. I have about eight videos and none of them have sound on the mac.

Mar 5, 2009For about a month now I noticed that whenever I'm watching a video on YouTube in HD or when I'm watching a movie trailer on Quicktime at 1080p, the playback lags. Prior to this everything worked well. All the videos I watched played smoothly at any resolution at any quality. I have an iMac with the following specs:
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB of DDR2 SDRRAM
ATI Radeon HD2600 Graphics Card with 256 VRAM
Also, I do not have many windows or applications open when I watch these videos. I have also close to 21GB of hard disk space used up out of about 280.

May 28, 2009I generated a full HD 1920x1080 mp4 video file and tried.playing it back using Quicktime. The playback was very jerky.The same file played beautifully using VLC. So I don't think.it is cpu horsepower issue. playing back mp4 HD materials using Quicktime? Any ideas?

ITunes :: Mac Goes To Sleep While Playback
Apr 21, 2012My Mac goes to sleep even when iTunes is playing. This is pretty ludicrous. Is there anyway to prevent this other than changing my power savings settings to never let my Mac go to sleep? I don't want to do that, I want my computer to go to sleep when I am not using it. This sure seems like a bug. I am running the newest version of iTunes as well as Lion.
My current energy saver settings are:
Computer Sleep: 15 min
Display Sleep: 15 min
Put hard disks to sleep when possible - yes
Wake for network access - yes
Allow power button to put the computer to sleep - yes
Start up automatically after a power failure - no
Restart automatically if the computer freezes - no
Again, I would rather not have to change these settings in order to keep iTunes playing.

Final Cut Pro X :: How To Playback BD-R Disc
Jun 27, 2014I burned a BD-R disc with Final Cut Pro X from the "share" command. Everything looks like it worked. The burner/player is a Samsung SE-506AB/TSBD (a portable burner with a USB plug.) I'm receiving an "unable to open file" from the Quicktime player app. The directory in Finder shows the BD file as AVCHD content. Do I need a separate app? If so, which is it?Â

OS X :: Mac Pro Freezes During Video Playback In Win7
Jun 15, 2009I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with two displays and an NVIDIA 8800 card. I was booted into Windows 7 using bootcamp, the machine froze during video playback, hard rebooted. Blue Screened in Windows, went to restart into OS 10.5.7 and I get the Apple logo and spinning gear, it then flashes briefly and goes to a grey screen. The second monitor never engages. The machine is fully booted as I can connect to it with my laptop through filesharing. I've tried PRAM/SMC reset, removing all the RAM/all external devices, pretty much everything. I've even tried replacing the video card and switching PCI slots, with the same issue still occurring.

My TV (connected to my Macbook for watching films) doesn't do this, and I was wondering if there's any software etc that can emulate this effect. I'm mostly playing back HD content in .mkv files using VLC. I have the Macbook connected to the HDTV via HDMI cable, running at 1920x1080 @ 24hz.

Jan 11, 2010I have a 2 1/2 year old MBP running SL. I recently have been having issues with the dvd drive. I have been trying to convert avi files to dvd. I have tried two different avi files and two different applications (idvd and burn). They do the conversion of the file, but when the disc is completed there seems to be files on the dvd but it cannot play. Sounds like the drive starts up, spins the disk, stops and repeats this till I eject. I get a beachball on the screen as well. Now I have tried known good DVDs and they play with no issues and games like the Sims 3 seem not to have an issue with playing in the drive. I was just trying to figure out if this is hardware related or software (apps or the files I am trying to convert) before my Applecare runs out.

Mar 5, 2012I've got mac 10.6.8 and iTunes 10. I used to be able (on previous computer) to playback music as I imported from the same cd but I have never been able to do so since I upgraded. I have tried all the settings in itunes preferences for when you import a cd but whatever option I choose I cannot play and import at the same time and I know you are meant to be able to. If I start off by playing the cd and then hitting the import cd button it immediatley stops playing. If I start by hitting the import cd button (or change the preference to import when cd is inserted) then the play button is greyed out.

QuickTime :: Different Echo On Audio Playback QT 10.1?
Mar 13, 2012i have been making backup QT movies of a whole bunch of Beta SP tapes using an AJA Ki Pro to record ProRes 422 files. I have used QT7pro to trim these movies and add metadata. Played back on QT7 (7.6.6) they sound find but playing the same movie on QT player 10.1 there is an echo on the audio as if one track has been knocked back about 6 or 7 frames. Using QT7 to set Ch1 and 2 to mono or stereo makes no difference, just spaces the echo out.Â
