Final Cut Pro X :: 10.1.3 - Capture Video From Old Unsupported Tape And Camera

Aug 30, 2014

I have: FCP X 10.1.3

Hi 8 tapes and camera

VHS and SVHS tapes and camera

JVC GY-DV5000U camera and mini DV tapes

Firewire cable

Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter

These tapes and cameras are unsupported in FCP X 10.1.3.

How can I capture (import) the video tape segments onto my Mac OS X version 10.9.4 so that I can edit the video in FCP? Are there special procedures or products that are needed?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Intel Mac :: Can't Capture Video From DV Camera Via Firewire?

May 31, 2012

I'm tryin to transfer video from my Sony DV camera to my iMac, but neither iMovie not Adobe Premiere cannot recognise the device.  They both automatically select my iSight camera as the one and only video source.

When I check the Firewire status in System Profiler I get the message: "Unable to list FireWire devices".

I have tired restarting the software, unplugging the camera, unplugging the firewire cable, restarting my Mac but still no result.

I spent a considerable amount of time Googling for solutions but have not come up with anything that helped.  I have also tried unplugging all other USB devices, restarting the machine, trying again, but still the same issue.

The weird thing is that about a year ago I managed to capture video just fine from the camera into Premiere without any problems.

The only thing that is different now, is that I have Windoes XP installed on my Mac as well. Could this be an issue, with XP "stealing" my firewire connection in some manner?  I'm not sure how this would be possible, but I suppose it could be...

My iMac is a 21.5" with an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz processor.  4GB DDR3 Ram and Mac OS X 10.6.8

iMovie is version 8.0.6 and Premiere is CS4. As I said, I had managed to capture video using the same equpiment about a year ago and the only difference now is that I also have a partition on my Mac with Windows XP (Service pack 3) on it.

Of course, the cable itself could be faulty, but since it hasn't been used in over a year, I doubt that's the issue. I still wanna try anything else, before I buy a new cable.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz processor.

I have a camera with RCA style jacks for power, audio and video. The red RCA jack is used for power, and has its own power supply. Yellow and white RCA jacks provide video and sound, and which I connect to my VCR Input jacks.

I would like to capture the camera's output into my computer.

Do you have a recommended product for this, or link to read about my options. My computer is not new, which may be a complication. But I have a couple of empty bays.

I have searched some forums, but most of what I find is VHS to DVD conversion, which might not be what I am after.

Applications :: Using Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1 Video Capture

Sep 2, 2010

Im trying to Capture videos from a sony dvd camcorder. im using a canopus advanced DV converter (ADVC-110 is the model #). quicktime version 10.0 is installed on this computer.

iMac 6.1 using OS X 10.6.2so this is what happens. i will attempt to capture a video from the camcorder to final cut express hd and during the capture, the video will momentarily freeze on the computer, however the playback on the camcorder continues. the result is that the video freezes while the audio continues to capture (and during playback as well). any ideas on what the problem could be?

i dont use this computer for any software/music downloading or anything like that so viruses are pretty much out of the question. if theres any other information you may need let me know.

Applications :: Best Way To Capture Video Using Final Cut Express On IMac?

Sep 16, 2010

I want to capture about 30 hours of DV tapes from my camcorder using Final Cut Express on my new iMac and was hoping to find the optimum configuration for doing so.

I'm using the Firewire port to connect to the camcorder. So then the question is: which hard disk to use for the capture scratch? Since the iMac has only one Firewire port, and that's used for the camcorder, the only choices are the internal Serial ATA 7200 rpm drive and an external drive connected via USB 2.0.

I wanted to avoid using the internal drive because it's the system drive and especially to avoid the significant internal heat build-up, but when I connect a 7200 rpm Seagate FreeAgent disk via USB, I'm consistently getting dropped frames.

So I've resorted to using the internal drive for now, and when I'm done, I may copy/move them off to the external drive, but I still would prefer to capture directly to the external drive (without the dropped frames though).

Power Mac G5 :: Audio Capture (cassette Tape) And Convert To MP3

Oct 5, 2007

I've been doing some searching and can't find any threads regarding capturing audio (cassette tape) to a mac. Wanted to rip some old school tunes from some tapes and convert to MP3. I connected an old tape deck to my G5 via ADS Pyro A/V Link (RCA audio input to Pyro, firewire connection out to G5), that doesn't seem to work. I've also tried connecting to my iMic USB, but that's not picking up any audio either. I've tried using QT audio recording, iMovie, FCP, and Analogue Ripper with no luck. They recognize the Pyro and iMic, but not picking up audio.

Now I know it's not the tape as when I use my iBook to capture (fcp5) it's fine. I know I could use the iBook but I've been having problems with it in other forms so I can't rely on that working forwver and once/when it dies, I'll be stuck. I've tried all the usuals: rebooting, different cam to transfer, different cables, re-instaling FCP and I'm still scratching my head.

OS X :: Image Capture Not Recognizing All The Files On Camera?

Oct 10, 2007

I am having problems with Image Capture not recognizing all the files on my camera (and recognizing photos that have long since been deleted). So I just took a few pictures to test out and see if I could get it to work right. I plugged in my camera and opened up image capture. I clicked download all. It downloaded two pictures that are not even on my camera (I double checked to make sure) and they were deleted weeks ago. And it's not recognizing the pictures I just took. There are about 23 pictures and it's not recognizing any of them just the two pictures that were deleted a while back. What's going on here? I'm new to Mac by the way.

MacBook Pro :: Tape Securing Fan To Heatsink / Electrical Tape?

Jul 4, 2010

I have a MacBook Pro 15" - Model A1226 (Santa Rosa, circa 2007). I need to replace my right fan. AppleCare just expired (of course). But replacing the fan should be pretty easy, I think.

The only question is about the tape securing the fan to the heatsink. On the old fan it looks like electrical tape, but on the "sticky" side, it looks like there is a bit of copper (?) in the middle.

So my assumption is that regular old electrical tape is not appropriate, but some special kind of electrical tape. What type of tape is that?

Have just finished movie on MacAir with material from camcorder's hard drive. No problem in transferring material from the brand new camera.  I have older digital material recorded on tape cassettes by Sony videocam which I would like to re-work with iMovie11.  The iMovi11 manual says transfer to the Air requires a FireWire connection.  I still have the older digital camera and the cables that came with it but neither the Air nor my Toshiba laptop have FireWire ports.  Any thoughts on how to effect a transfer?

Software :: Image Capture Does Not Allow Downloads From Digital Camera?

Aug 23, 2010

On my Mac running Leopard 10.5, Image Capture has Preferences that allow me to choose an option that opens Image Capture when a USB digital camera is attached. That's gone on my new Mac with Snow Leopard. I never needed camera software to make this work, and unfortunately I have a Canon camera and Canon does not make drivers or software for Snow Leopard. So, how does one get Image Capture to open and download images from a digital camera? Did Apple dumb-down Image Capture like they did to iMovie?

Hardware :: Image Capture Not Recognize Sony Camera

Feb 28, 2008

Bought new Mac Mini and have been using it for two weeks with no problem. Until now.

Plugged in my Sony camera which has worked with the old G4 Quicksilver for the last 4 years. iPhoto didn't open, so I checked Image Capture, which says "No device connected"... Checked leads, restarted etc, still the same.

Took the MemoryStick out of the camera and put it in a card reader and iPhoto opened immediately.

Swapped USB sockets. Checked System Profiler; no camera shows as connected.

Any suggestions as to how to get the Sony working again from its cradle? It seems to be connected in the cradle because it's charging OK.

Final Cut Pro X :: 10.1.3 Does Not See Camera Archives?

Aug 23, 2014

I have tried to use the "camera archive functionality" for the first time and got a problem, I can't solve myself:

I plugged a SD-Card with content of my Panasonic SD 909 into my Mac and opened FCPX. Then I went to the "Import Media"-Window. The card is shown twice. I think, this is, because it contains different media. Some clips shot in Panasonics "iFrame"-Mode (which leads to h.264), some shots in the well-known AVCHD-mode. First is shown in the one camera-card, second in the other. Importing media from this card(s) into an FCPX event works without problems.

No I activated one of the two cards in the upper right panel and clicked on "create archive" (or similar, I use the german translation). A window pops up where I can choose the destination for the archive (I have chosen my desktop first). I did not activate the option "create favorite" for now and started processing.

It took a long while (about 18 GB of data), but then the archive was created and in the finder, I can see it on my desktop. Annotation: Selecting the first or second camera-card for archiving leads to the same result. In both cases a archive was generated which stores both contens (approved by examining the package size and content in the finder).

But now, the problem(s):When I go to the import window in FCPX again, the archive is not visible. It does not appear in the left panel of the import media-Window. Not as a camera, not as a device, not as an archive. Restarting FCPX and even my Mac does not solve this.I can navigate to the archive via choosing my harddisk/desktop in the left panel and can see it in the "choose media section" in the bottom of the window. It behaves like a folder there. When I open this folder, I only see the h.264-media, but no AVCHD-Clips. This happens, regardless which card I have choosen when generating the archive (tried it with both, and - as said - both ways result in the same archive).

What am I doing wrong? I know, in older versions of FCPX, archives had to be stored in a special folder inside the movie-folder of my user, but this has changed with 10.1.2 and the folder is not there any longer. Is there an other place for the archives? I thought, starting with 10.1.2 it's no matter, where to store them...

Or is this a bug in FCPX (10.1.3)?

If this is on interest, my OS is 10.9.4, the complete system nearly a "virgin" (fresh complete install).

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
