Sep 23, 2009A lot of times, when I close the flash intense web sites, my fans won't stop running until I go into activity monitor and force quit flash. This is very irritating and kills my battery life. I feel like I am constantly playing the sims 3 even if I am not doing anything. Also, are there varying levels of how much flash you're using? For example, if you're on youtube is that just as bad as being on macrumors and looking at flash based ad banners?

OS X :: Malware/Network Activity Is Constantly Running Even Browser Closed?
Aug 15, 2010I'm running an Intego X6 full scan right now, but something is amiss:
1. Activity Monitor shows 19 packets in/sec, 22 packets out/sec, currently at 26024 packets in and 24996 out since rebooting maybe 10 minutes ago)
2. iStat shows 4k in/out per sec
3. My router's activity light incessantly blinks
4. My router won't light up at the initial login, so the issue only happens with my current user account
When disabling all internet activity through Intego's firewall, my router also stops. Amusingly, Activity Monitor continues to show packets being sent and received. (I didn't see anything in Activity Monitor that would show me which process(es) are using the network as well...)
I can't seem to find any PID or process names out of the ordinary, but usually there should be no activity when there's no activity.
I do keep OS X updated as often as possible, but that doesn't mean something wicked this way comes...
Are there apps I can use that will tell me what process is sending these mystery packets?
Mac Pro :: Fans Running Fast At Idle / Little Gap Between Closed Door And Outer Case
May 7, 2008just received my new MP and noticed the same thing with the 08 Modell which is that the door sits slightly offset on the case meaning theres a little gap about 0,5mm between the closed door and the outer case.
Second my fans "boostA & boostB" are spinning at 1100rpm at idle I thought they should normally idle at around 800rpm? (I read at least)

I hooked it up and working fine. the power, keyboard and mouse are attached. while docked, MBP is in sleep mode, and pressing the keyboard will wake it up.My macbook is connected to remote access via internet, i use logmein. However, while the monitor is turn off, is there anyway to wake the macbookpro and remotely controlled via internet?I think i was able to wake it up but it wont connect, since it looks like you need physically touch the keyboard or mouse to wake up the macbook pro.

Jun 4, 2012I have an 13" MBP that I ordered new in April, 2012. It is running Lion. I have an external monitor that is capable of 1440x900 resolution. I have an external keyboard and trackpad hooked up, and I like to close my MBP up and stick it in a BookArc. I want to be able to have the internal display disabled and to have the MBP only allow me to put windows on the external display, so long as the lid is closed. I also want to be sure that I am taking advantage of the resolutions available on my external monitor, which are higher than those supported by the internal display (specifically 1440x900).
This doesn't seem to work because I either have to allow the MBP to continue to draw my desktop across both screens (internal and external), OR use the "mirror displays" mode, which restricts my resolution of my external monitor. This means I either forgoe the additional resolution benefits of my external monitor, or I end up with windows that fall off-the-cliff, so to speak, because they are drawn in the portion of the desktop that would be shown on my internal display (which is closed).
I've read the community support pages on using the MBP with an external monitor, most relevantly, this page. It simply recommends using the "mirror displays" option. However, this option, as I mentioned above, doesn't allow me to make use of the additional resolution, and my external display looks bad. how to keep the 13" MBP in closed clamshell position, with the internal display disabled, and use my external monitor at resolutions higher than those allowed by the 13" MBP but which are available to my external monitor when not in "mirror displays" mode?

Oct 1, 2009I just wrote a long detailed account of what's happening, and the hacker sent me somewhere else when I tried to post it. Now I have to start all over. Here are the facts:I'm normal and don't do anything weird on my computer. I have a G4 powerbook with Tiger and Vonage (not sure if that's considered a router) and an ethernet connection. I know how to set up all my preferences, I don't want to share anything. I want to use my computer and my internet by myself. It always starts out with my network config changing to "Internal Modem." Then my location changes, then my (LOCKED) system preferences are unlocked. The "Network Time" box will be checked. My firewall keeps getting turned off. My IP Net Sentry is suddenly set up to receive packages, and there are hundreds of scripts and Python and Network time, users named "Other", etc.

Feb 11, 2007Recently i've added a Panasonic CRT to my setup running dual screen on my iBook G4 (latest rev.) Just wondering if it's safe to run lid closed mode on it. I know that it's capable (even though it's not supposed to be.) Would i run into severe problems if I did this as far as screen damage? I'm not sure if the heat comes through the keyboard and would create pixel problems.

When the mac mini user is a normal user (not parental controlled), it works fine. The parental controlled user has their own apple id / email address. Under the parental controls it is set to unlimited web access.

Nov 1, 2010I'm new to the whole Apple scene, been using (and still am using) Windows up to this point but now that I've saved up some cash I want to make the switch. Running a 4-year old Windows desktop and 1-year old Windows netbook right now, sick and tired of this!
I'm a photographer, so I need a computer that can edit photos and video and not just to browse. I spend 5 days a week at my University and the weekends at home, so there is a little issue with the mobility. I have over 30GB of music by the way. Budget allowing, I can get the [ MC511ZP/A - iMac 27"/2.8 ghz Intel Core i5 /4 GB/1 TB HD/ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1 TB ] as an iMac, or the [ MC373LL/A - MBP 15" 2.66 Ghz i7/4 GB/ 500 GB HD/ 512 MB GDDR3 Intel HD ] if I were to get a Macbook Pro.
Given the circumstances, would it be more reasonable for me to get the MBP+iPad so that I could have a powerful computer I could easily move between my two houses while at the same time having a super-mobile tablet to use in school and for non-heavy duty computing activities, the MBP+iPod Touch which would be the same concept as the iPad but then I'd have to use the MBP for e-mailing and web browsing and just stick to having mobile music, or the 27" iMac which gives me the most bang for the buck and a really pretty screen while having the iPad as my mobile computer although it would mean I would have to go 2-3 days a week with only my iPad as a computer excepting long vacations when I would just take my iMac back to our family house?

Jun 4, 2014My Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

Sep 30, 2010I have a late 2008 unibody macbook connected to a brand new Samsung monitor via a displayport to DVI cable and everything works great until I shut my macbook. The external monitor continues to work fine but my wireless seems to lose connection, my desk is approximately 15 feet from a wireless repeater and Airport appears to have a full signal but it will act as if there is a bad connection until I open my macbook back up and then the internet works fine.
I was talking to a friend and he mentioned that some displayport to DVI cables do not have sufficient shielding therefore interfering with the wireless signal but if that was the issue it should be effecting the wireless signal at all times, not just when the macbook is closed.

Nov 15, 2007On every MB I've used since they first came out, you could hook the audio and video up, close the lid, and if it went into sleep mode, the Apple Remote would trigger a "wake up" for mediacenter purposes on a TV/stereo. My SR MB w/ 10.5 doesn't do it. As soon as the lid closes, it's asleep no matter how I toggle the view between screen and external port. Front Row doesn't wake it anymore. Anyone else having this problem? I wanted to find out before calling and asking.
