OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Webcam Controlled Remotely Via A Trojan/virus?
Apr 10, 2012
I noticed a couple times that the green light has been coming on for my webcam on my iMac. Are there any known trojans/viruses that can do this? Is there a way to determine if this is indeed occurring?Â

I keep getting messages like this. I am under the impression a host has created a carbon framework.
I just got the 15" henge dock last week [URL]. I hooked it up and working fine. the power, keyboard and mouse are attached. while docked, MBP is in sleep mode, and pressing the keyboard will wake it up.My macbook is connected to remote access via internet, i use logmein. However, while the monitor is turn off, is there anyway to wake the macbookpro and remotely controlled via internet?I think i was able to wake it up but it wont connect, since it looks like you need physically touch the keyboard or mouse to wake up the macbook pro.Â
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), docked with henge dock
So, it seems that it is in fact possible to get a virus/trojan on a Mac, I am using Sophos Anti Virus as I noticed my iMac is running way slow. It's a fairly new machine with 8GB RAM and 2 TB HD so should be fine. Turns out several copies of Troj/PDFJs-ON (files are report.zip, report.pdf. One was removed by Sophos, the other needs to be removed manually. However, according to Adobe, the fix is a patch to the Adobe Reader, but I don't use or have Adobe Reader. I do have other Adobe products. What can I do?
My iMac constantly tried to open Mail when I wake it from sleep and I have to force quit, and it just randomly started a screensaver even though the screensaver is disabled in system preferences.
For the past week or so, people from my mailing list in Eudora have received a series of crude spam emails from my address containing links to porn sites. A couple of them have sent me copies of the messages. I have the original MacBook Pro, core duo running 10.5.6 and I use Eudora 6.2 as my email client.
How can I check if I have the Reverse Trojan Virus on my iMac? Lately I was ping by Adobe to install an upgrade. Given the press about this virus I was wondering if I just loaded it when I updated the Adobe Reader software.
I think that someone else can read my emails from my mac computer. There are some informations outside which can only come from my emails. Is there a apple tool to check for trojan, virus or other software. I think someone installed the eblaster software on my mac as i was away.
Info: MacBook Air (11-INCH, MID 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
How can I tell if my computer has been infected with this latest Trojan (or with any Trojan)? I did install the latest update to Java when I was told by my iMac that new software was available for my computer, which was just 2 or 3 days ago (first week of April). Now it is being said that there was a Java Trojan.Â
I´m a OS X 10.5.8. user. Now my iMac is infected with the flashback trojan. Especially my gmx mail-account is forwarding spam-massages. What do I have to do?
If 10.5 is up to date, is it vunerable to the Flashback.G Trojan that was reported on 2/24? All of the news items about this speak only of 10.6 or 10.7. They imply that if OS X is up to date, then there are no worries.Â
I just recently updated to 10.6.3 which, as far as I know does not have built-in protection from stuff like Flashback Trojan. When I click on "Software Update" all I get is an inactive, blank screen. I was told that if I clicked on that I would be able to download Apple's patch preventing this from infecting my iMac.
I'm getting the following report from LS on startup: ".sunupdate wants to connect to the following... then followed by a series of nonsense URLs: vxvhwcixcxqxd.com; stxeapbewbblp.com; and tygoiuoigwodd.com and then all again as .info/.net. What's going on?I've denied those connections in LS, but am now worried as I've heard about the Flashback trojan. I've also run through the Terminal commands to check and see if I'm infected, but those come back clean (or at least the instructions I followed for the '.K' version did... I don't know of any other check for other kinds).I've also written down the info for IP addresses, rev DNS names, process numbers, etc. that came along with the LS alert. But thought I'd better find out if it's a worry before typing in all that info.
Apparently my mac is holding a Windows Trojan. It probably got on my mac through a USB device when uploading things to desktop. The file itself hasn't been touched since 2006...pretty darn old usb/trojan.  I have both Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Sophos (installed after Kaspersky was unable to disenfect) which apparently quarantined the file but can not be deleted. The file autorun.exe is hidden in a folder RECYCLER in the desktop. I've used the Terminal to show the file. I've checked its info and it's already unlocked and privilege is Read & Write.  Whenever I throw the whole folder into the trash and attempt to empty, I receive error message "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items." If I drag the file seperate from folder into the trash, I receive the prompt to enter my security question (was never prompted this for any other file). After entering password, it makes the sound that something went it. The Trash however is empty, and the file remains in the RECYCLER folder in the desktop. Â
1) Is there a way to make safari start a new tab when opening a link on the next tab you're watching instead of the last one?
2) When I read mails on my iPhone they don't "always" appear as read on the Mail app, is there a way to fix this? (Using Yahoo and Hotmail accounts)
3) And finally, is there a way to set a password just for when someone tries to log in remotely to my mac? I found that you could set one for start up or after going to sleep or screensaver but I don't want the password when someone enters physically to the mac but over the internet, can that be done?
I just wrote a long detailed account of what's happening, and the hacker sent me somewhere else when I tried to post it. Now I have to start all over. Here are the facts:I'm normal and don't do anything weird on my computer. I have a G4 powerbook with Tiger and Vonage (not sure if that's considered a router) and an ethernet connection. I know how to set up all my preferences, I don't want to share anything. I want to use my computer and my internet by myself. It always starts out with my network config changing to "Internal Modem." Then my location changes, then my (LOCKED) system preferences are unlocked. The "Network Time" box will be checked. My firewall keeps getting turned off. My IP Net Sentry is suddenly set up to receive packages, and there are hundreds of scripts and Python and Network time, users named "Other", etc.
I need to stream a video of my choosing using amsn in OsX. I found an app named macam that is suposed to do just that, among other things. I followed the intructions but I just can't get it to recognize the dummy webcams.
What is the general compatibility of OSX with webcams? I have an old Logitech Quickcam pro and a creative webcam and am wondering if these will work with the Mac Mini I plan to purchase soon. Does OSX have a generic driver model that work with most webcams?
I have an external webcam that I would like to use instead of the webcam built in to the iMac. For audio, I can go to System Preferences -> Sound -> Input and select a device for sound input. With video though, there is no such option I can find. I can manually select the webcam when I use FaceTime or Skype, but I have to manually go into the preferences for each application every single time I open it. Neither application nor the operating system has a way of setting a default webcam that I can find.
I have a parental controlled user setup on a brand new mac mini running Lion. When initiating or receiving a FaceTime call as the parental controlled user, the connection rings, but after trying to connect the call fails. When the mac mini user is a normal user (not parental controlled), it works fine. The parental controlled user has their own apple id / email address. Under the parental controls it is set to unlimited web access.
