Applications :: Office Not Working After Upgrade?
Feb 12, 2009
I mistakenly installed microsoft office 2004 (Upgrade edition), which requires office 2001 for it to work, onto my computer before discovering it wasn't the actual package. I then removed it (or thought I did) so I could install Microsoft Office 2004. When I try to open any of the office applications I'm told that I need to locate microsoft office 2001 because it thinks it is still the upgrade

I am trying to upgrade Office 2004 to version 11.5.6. I am current in Office upgrades but when I try this upgrade the installer hangs and I get the "not responding" message. I have tried both auto and manual installs and turned off and on the computer.

I purchased Office 2008 for Mac from the Apple store at the end of August and as part of the Technology Guarantee, I'm eligible for a free upgrade to Office 2011. Purchase a qualifying Office 2008 for Mac product between Aug. 1, 2010, and Nov. 30, 2010, and you will be eligible to download Office for Mac 2011 at no additional cost* when it becomes available. My question is...should I do it? Does anyone have any experience or insight into Office 2011? Also...I'm not sure if this should be a determining factor, but my purchased copy of Office 2008 came with three product keys. Apparently if I upgrade to 2011, I only get one product key. Big deal?

Okay, so we were forced to upgrade to Office 2008 so we could use the new Entourage, but we still want to use Word 2004 as our default for opening .doc documents.
You can go into the Get Info window all day long, set it and CHANGE ALL, but it doesn't work. Have tried this on various Macs, we're mostly still running Leopard, a few on Snow Leopard.

I do the Sp1 update and the april 14th update 12.1.7 I think it is, it stops running. It keeps asking to update then close cuz it says nothing to update and then there is nothing so I do it again same thing. Just doesn't open. And I googled and I know a lot of people have had this problem. I also deleted the 2 files that most ppl said should work but when I put in my serial key after I deleted it the "continue" button doesn't take it to next page. It keeps getting clicked but it doesn't respond.

I've been using Office X for some time. I bought Office 2004 for Mac (Student Teacher Edition) from a friend who upgraded last May. I got the manual and the Product ID with it. I never got around to Installing it, but my hard drive failed recently and Apple replaced it, obviously without any of my stuff on it. So I decided if I have to reinstall all my software, I'd go ahead and use the Office 2004 as I don't think the Office X is fully compatible with Tiger (because of it's age and a few issues I've had with it over the past two years). Now, here's the problem. When I tried to install it, the product ID didn't work as the Product/CD Key.
I called my friend and she no longer has the box or the Product Key, and of course, the Product key from my Office X doesn't work. Is anyone familiar with Office 2004 for Mac? Is there any difference between the "retail" version and the Student/teacher version that would prevent the Product Key from one with working with the other? Would anyone be willing to share their Product key with me, to install the software so I can get back to work? I've already lost 4 days in time (and have to recreate 2 days worth of work that was done after my last file backup) and don't have time to deal with this stuff.

Installed MSOffice on my MBP with SL already installed. Office immediately wants to be updated with a "critical update" which is 200+ MB. Nearing the end of the update I get a message that says the update had a technical error, and it then shuts down. After this nothing in Office works.
Then I tried to post a message on MS's Mactopia forum and it won't let me log in. So I can't post, and I can't create a new account.I dragged the corrupted Office to the trash (their uninstall program wouldn't work either). Reinstalled Office and everything works. But it's not updated.

Ready to install Office 2011 for Mac. Currently we are running Office 2008 for Mac.
What is the best way to eliminate Office 2008 and to ensure a clean Office 2011 install?
For most Mac programs, I would normally drag the application folder to the trash, and then do a library search for some entries related to the program. Will this work for Office 2008 to Office 2011? I ask because the M$ installers seem to more than simply add the app to your app folder and update the libraries - and don't get me started on the horrors of the Windoze registry errors.

So here is my dilemma. I got a letter a few days ago from the college I am going to, and it included a list of requirements if we were bringing our own computer. One of the requirements was if we had a Mac, to have Office 2008. I have talked to a friend who is replacing her current Macbook with another Macbook later in the summer, and we decided that when she bought her Macbook, that we could split the price of Microsoft Office for Mac 2008. Now, should I just go ahead and continue on with the plan with my friend, or what? Is there a huge difference in Office 2004 and Office 2008?

Whilst still waiting for the MBP refresh, I would like some advice on which office software you would recommend.
I have decided to convert from being a pc user to have a go with a mac as i have heard so much positive info about its OSX operating system.
I have many word files etc (obviosuly coming from a pc).
What would you recommend,
iwork (55 pre installed)
office for mac (?)
open office (free)
Which one if all of these will enable me to just plug in my usb stick and download all my word/ excel files and pictures without any issues and edit/ change/send again without any issues.

I've heard Office:Mac isn't that great, and doesn't make up for what iWork 09 is missing. So I'm wondering what people think about it and why does it get such a bland reputation? Also, do people use a combination of the above? Such as iWork and Office:Windows? Both Offices? I do mainly word processing, some soft Excel work (no hardcore giant spreadsheets...yet), and general PowerPoints for presentations. I have access to cheap iWork/Offices (school discount) and a family pack of the top-level edition of Office:PC (family) so it isn't a big deal to get any of the above.
Lastly, what's the difference between Camino and Firefox? I use Firefox currently and love it, mainly due to the add-ons (weather at the bottom, Gmail alert, skins, page views, other customizations). Tabs seem to be on all browsers these days, so are there any other key differences?

I'm sure most people suffer from this but here goes.
So I make a presentation on Mac Office powerpoint, everything is fine. I open it up at university on the PC, all is fine. I maybe change some text on a slide and save it again. Open the same file again on my Mac, and it won't open some silly error comes up saying trouble accessing file from mac HD.
Then luckily I have keynote, so I just open it in that and use that.
Point is why does this happen?? Whilst keynote is better, sometimes I have to edit things on a PC at work or uni and then it becomes a giant mess on my mac.
Is there a quick fix, or will I have to throw Mac Office into my growing pile of Microsoft related garbage.

My copy of Office for Mac 2004 Entourage 11.4.0 was corrupted today when downloading mail. Accessing mail via Blackberry 8330 showed that physical gaps were email messages that weren't in Entourage Inbox.
When I attempted to do anything--click in gaps to get missing messages, delete messages, etc., I got a screen saying Unknown Error (4362).

I have bought the registration key and entered it into Quicktime 7. It seems to have accepted it because the icon changed to Pro and it has Quicktime 7 Pro at the bottom instead of 'Buy Quicktime Pro...' Â
But... when I go to 'Save As' it is greyed out and leads me to a link to 'Buy Now' but on the US store. I bought my update from the UK store as this is the country I live in and from where my Mac was purchased. Maybe this has something to do with it? I followed a UK store web link to download version 7 before updating.Â

I have an iMac with 1.6 PowerPC G5 and am running OSX 10.5.7. I just received a notice to upgrade OSX and did so. Now I have lost my wireless keyboard, and when I put my mouse on the header of the desktop to open anything all I get is the dreaded beach ball. I can't open my airport, bluetooth, volume control or anything on the desktop header. I tried to go through System Preferences (which I could open) but when I try to open bluetooth there all I get is the beachball and have to force quit.

I tried searching for 2 hours here and on google but nobody seems to experience exactly the same problem as me.
I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I got the problem alot of other people has been having: The screensaver kicked in during the installation. But I read about this after I turned off the computer by holding the power button which means I must have turned it off while it was installing.
Booted again and nothing on the screen. I got the chime but the screen was completely black(the flashlight trick didn't work, so the screen was totally off).
However it managed to finish the install after I turned on the computer again with the SL disc in the drive and giving it some time. It rebooted by itself and booted, this time with the screen on.
It booted up perfectly into 10.6 and I was happy. I thought I might just as well upgrade to 10.6.1 while I was at it, so I opened Software Update, downloaded the update and went ahead. I didn't reboot before doing this so this was done almost straight after it booted up in 10.6 the first time.
As far as I remember the screen changed to the 'starry sky' background while preparing to install and reboot. But now I'm stuck: I'm back to where the computer boots with only the chime. I can hear that the fans, hard drive and disc drive works. More or less everything else but the screen turns on.I've tried the flashlight trick again with no luck.I tried turning it off, taking out the battery and holding the power button for 10 seconds.I tried resetting PRAM by holding option, command, r and p when turning the computer on.
I tried holding down shift while booting.I tried holding down C while booting with the SL disc in the drive.
Nothing worked!
Right now when I turn it on it seems like it boots into OS X(the keyboard light turns on). Then it turns itself off after 5 minutes, then wakes again 5 minutes after that... And just continuing this cycle.

Iphoto is not working. When I open it, it says it is upgrading, but only goes to 99% on step five. Do you know how i can fix this and save my photos? It also doesn't let me click into anything on that window, not even at the bar at the top of the screen, so i have to go into another window and force quit it. Then it does the same thing over again. I tried restarting my computer and shutting it down, but it did not work.
