i recently switched my windows media player library to itunes, so that i could buy and ipod, it now says that i have 5800 songs and it is 40gb's worth :S i was planning on buying a classic to fit it on, but this has already taken up a third of the memory! is this usual and is there anyway of reducing it to its normal size?
I just got a new 1080p display that I'm also using as a secondary monitor. I want to use it as a primary monitor when I'm using my MBP, which I know how to do.
However, the applications need to be resized and positioned when you connect it. Are there any applications that can remember sizing + positioning of applications based on which display is your primary?
It'd be useful to make the display my "docking" station of sorts.
I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem? Whenever I import a cd into iTunes, or convert a track to a different bit rate, it literally uses all my computer's memory/CPU. I cannot use the computer for anything else during this time as it's far far too slow, to the point where programs won't even open. This wasn't always the case, but it seems with each new version of iTunes it becomes worse and worse. I import at a pretty low bitrate 128 mp3. I am only trying to surf the net when I'm importing, I'm not doing anything else or using/running any other programs. If I do try to use another program (like my email program - outlook) it will barely open, takes forever to do anything, and wants to freeze. I can't use Microsoft Word because typing anything is impossible. Massive lag before the typed words show up.
I'm not sure what I did but only on one specific page does Safari increase the font size. Going to zoom out makes it the way its meant to look but it doesn't stay permanent.
Hoping someone here has experience and can clarify.
The bag is going to be dual purpose, to carry either my 13" MBP (with SecondSkin) or my DELL 14" work laptop.
The 'true' width/dimensions fit within the Timbuk2 guidelines by about 1CM on both. I emailed Timbuk2 and they said it would be too tight for a medium, but having read all the posts about M fitting a 15" laptop I'm some what confused.
I bought a Coldplay album from iTunes. I burned a disc to play in my car. The car system does not show any identifying information (cd name, track name) about the cd and I can't enter it into the car's memory.
1. When I drag a group of songs from a playlist to a memory card iTunes adds a series of numbers to the beginning of each song title. (For example Misty becomes 09-2 Misty. Several songs may be assigned the same number. This makes it impossible to sort these songs alphabetically on the memory card. I can remove the number manually either by renaming each song in the list or by using the Get Info command. Either way each song must be renamed individually. How can I drag songs without iTunes adding a number?
Over time I have accumulated quite a big iTunes library and on my MacBookPro with 500GB I have about 10GB left. Any sollutions? If I set up an external drive, how will it affect my running iTunes? If I use an external drive, do i need to re-install iTunes every time? Can I use the time machine on my Time capsule?
Anyone else having issues with iTunes 10.6.3 running on OSX 10.7.4 leaking memory dry and then filling up ALL your disk partition? I do - once a week now. I have a small boot SSD, but once iTunes fills up the memory it appears to be creating a 30+ GB swap on the boot drive and just kills my machine. I watched the apps closely this week, and iTunes had built itself a nice little slice of 4.5+GB of memory. I have 12GB of memory. Machine was starting to lock up right before my eyes. Force quitting iTunes saved the day. What in the world? I do connect my Apple TV to my library.
I apparently have 111gb of music on my computer, but only 55.something in my iTunes library. Every time something is downloaded or added, I add it right to iTunes. There is nothing that has been downloaded or ripped and not added to iTunes. Thus, the amount of music in my iTunes library should match what my memory actually shows.Â
What is the minimal configuration (operating system and memory) for installing iTunes 10.x on a G4 eMac?It already runs on Tiger 10.4.11 with 718MB of RAM.
I have a iMac DV G3/500 (Special Edition) from summer 2000. Anyway, I am using Mac OS 10.2.8. Recently, my start up disk's memory has gone done from 1.2 GB available free space to 668MB (currently). I haven't saved anything on this disk so I can not understand why this memory has dissappeared. I have also had icons on the start up menu disappear. Could someone please tell me how I can restore the missing memory?
I have a Black MacBook (Early 2008). I think that I still have the factory standard RAM sticks (I bought the Mac used from a friend). I noticed today that I am running on only one gig of RAM even though I have two gigs of memory.
utilizing memory on iMac. 320gb almost used (7gb left). Think this is due to extensive iTunes music library. How can I move this to an external drive to free up memory on iMac?
I just bought a early 2009 MAC Pro and it came with 3GB of RAM, I ordered 3 2GB sticks of memory to replace the 3 1GB sticks that I had in there from Kingston. I turned off the unit, I popped the little levers and pulled the memory out of slot 1, 2, 3 and then replaced the memory with the new Kingston in slot 1, 2, 3
One of the sticks in is not working at all and I get the RED LED light no matter what slot I move that chip to. So I am running on 2 of the new Kingston memory chips.
Can I mix the memory and add the 1GB into slot 3 and 4 with slot 1 and 2 full of 2GB chips?
Also how to I run the memory utility again? I went to /system/Library/CoreServices/ and then I see the program Memory Slot Utility.app
How do I run this? I'm used to no spaces and I type ./then program name
I am shooting high school basketball video with two Sony HD cameras:1 camera follows the action on the court, the other stays on the clock.
I then use iMovie 11 to superimpose the clock video using Picture-in-Picture onto the game footage.
Both cameras shooting highest HD at 30 fps.
Last basketball season, I was using iMovie 09 on a MacBook Pro, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD. I would import Video 1, import Video 2, superimpose Picture-in-Picture, share to iDVD, burn videos, no worries.
This basketball season, I am using iMovie 11 on a Mac Pro, dual Intel-6-core, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. I am having some kind of problem with memory (I think).
I boot my Mac Pro. I import the 1-hour Video 1, it takes 11 minutes. If I now import the 1-hour Video 2 (with no reboot), it takes about 30 minutes.
If I boot my Mac Pro, import 1-hour Video 1 in 11 minutes, then reboot the Mac Pro again, the 1-hour Video 2 takes 11 minutes.
When I share to iDVD to burn standard DVDs, if I reboot, it takes about 30 minutes. If I do not reboot, it takes about 2 hours.
When I export to Quicktime at 1920x1080 to burn on a Blu-Ray disc using Toast without a reboot, the export fails 4 times out of 5. If I reboot before exporting to Quicktime, the export always works.
On my MacBook Pro, using iMovie 09, of course all the times were slower because of fewer/slower cores, but I was never rebooting constantly.
I've been getting this error since last night when I try to render: Error: Out of Memory. Last night, I also installed a new 500 GB Harddrive and upgraded from Os x 10.4.11 to the Newest Snow Leopard, with iLife and iWork. I've looked at my computer's activity monitor, and there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary taking up all my memory. It could be possible I don't know what to look for too. I'm working on finishing an animation with a deadline, and without rendering.
I'm sure most of you use Growl. Well I left my MacBook Pro on all night uploading some junk and when I went to it this morning it was doggggg slow, the dock refresh was tearing, it was horrid. So I opened the activity monitor and Growl was taking up 3.4 GIGS of virtual memory.
So lately when I am rendering my projects, or exporting them via quicktime conversion, I keep getting an error. It states only "Error: Ran out of memory". I am editing HDV 1080 video. Now, I have 6GB of RAM. I have about 400GB left on my 1TB Media drive and around 200GB left on my main hard drive. Does anyone know why my mac pro is doing this? This is happening on final cut pro 7
Alright so I bought a copy of Aperture 3 and just upgraded from Aperture 2 once I installed it, it had to convert my older library into Aperture 3 format it said it would take overnight so I came back in the morning to see a massage saying something like " your startup disk is full please close other applications for more memory " which was really strange because my Aperture library is not even on my start disk and I had 60gb's left on my startup when I went to bed. not to mention the computer was the slowest I had ever seen it. could this be because it ran out of ram and started using the startup as virtual memory? and if so why did it use 60gb/s of storage and still not have enough? this is a huge problem apple needs to fix it seems to do this as soon as I start up Aperture every time.
I was wondering if it was normal that when normal browsing with 2 tabs open, that safari takes up 700mb of my memory! Is there something wrong with it? Is it because of flash ads or something?
I'm curious if anyone has experienced a memory leak in Mail?
I leave it open all the time so it will check my e-mail constantly over my IMAP accounts. My computer was last restarted--so so was mail, earlier in the day. I opened up activity monitor and saw it hogging an insane 300 mb of RAM. After I closed the program and restarted it, it is down to using a much more reasonable 32 mb.
I am just wondering if it would be possible to run a game off of a USB memory stick. The game is approximately 600mb and very old (fallout 2 for mac), and I have very little computer knowledge. I'm used to PCs, but even then I'm no whiz. I absolutely cant install the game to my hard drive, as my flat-mate, who owns the computer is very touchy about me installing things or using memory.
I've kept my Mac on for days in order to test out these memory leaks that Safari, iTunes, etc supposedly have.
Safari is now using 1.01 GB of memory. And that's not from having 100 windows open or anything. I usulaly have a few windows open with a few tabs each most of the time. But it's just the size to which Safari has grown. It started out much less. Under 100mb I think.
iTunes is up to 280mb from 50mb and I believe it was even higher earlier in the day somewhere in the 330mb range.
I have 4 gigs of RAm on my aluminum iMac, but now I have only 58mb of free memory left!!!
When memory runs out what will be the result? Is Safari just using a gig of memory because it can??? Will this slowdown my system? Or will Safari and/or iTunes give up memory starting with the oldest data first? Am I reinventing the wheel here? What will this test or observation prove?
I'm currently using the Firefox 3.5 Beta4 version and it's a damn memory hog. It uses 600MB after a half an hour of browsing unless I restart it. Is this normal, or is there something wrong with my computer?
I'm trying out Aperture 2 for the first time, I always used Iphoto. I have imported my large library into Aperture. Activity Monitor says that Aperture takes up 1.3 gb of memory when being used and 600 mb when It's not being using it.
Is it normal for Aperture 2 to being using this much memory? Iphoto uses 350 mb of memory. My 2.66 Ghz Quad Core has 6 gig's of memory. I run aperture alongside Iphoto, Firefox, Itunes, New York Times reader, Rhapsody's flash player, etc.
Please this is not a question about whether you use Safari or Firefox.
What Browser has the smallest memory footprint for use on the MBA?
With limited ram @ 2GB I find either Safari, Firefox, Camino, etc using as much as 200MB +/- in activity monitor. Are there some more obscure browsers that use/need less memory and function just as well or almost as well?
I am running Final Cut Pro 7 on a MacBook with a 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. I have used FCP to edit before using video from a camera that used mini DV tapes and that worked fine. I recently got the Flip Ultra HD, which records straight to MP4 with the following format: 1280x720, 30 FPS, H.264 video compression. I imported the files on my computer and then imported them into FCP. When I try to play them in the viewer I get a window that says: General Error. Then another window that says: out of memory. I have tried restarting both the computer and the program.
